Thought this could be interesting. I'll chime in with my opinion after I see a few posts. |

In general, I'm against it. When people take the law into their own hands, they're disregarding a community-accepted standard in favor of their own personal opinions, which could vary drastically from what's morally acceptable. |

If it isn't outrageously violent or breaking too many laws, I don't mind non-poilce confronting criminals. |

I'm all for it, tbh... but then I'm quite insane enough to walk right up to someone pointing a gun at me, probably... Okay, maybe I should be more specific: If a person intervenes when catching someone in the act of a crime, it's great. However, they should never get violent except in self-defense or to protect others. |

It depends on how it's done. That stuff I hear about the guys in Chicago or whatever...that seems to be fine, but there's also people who go insane and break a ton of laws just to catch someone. As long as you're not breaking any laws yourself, I think it's perfectly acceptable. I give some leeway in that idea of "not breaking laws" too. For example, assaulting a criminal to save someone, I don't have a problem with that, but going 150MPH to catch someone...yeah no. Edited by Polantaris, Sep 2 2011, 10:57 PM.

Speaking of speeding like that, I knew a guy at work who said he totaled his car. I asked what happened, and he said he was tired and hit uneven pavement in the dark. We talked for awhile and it suddenly hit me... "wait... how fast were you going?" "about 125" (speed limit is around 45 on the road he was apparently on, btw) wtf, how is that even possible...? |
