I was at home and heard the news, though I completely ignored it at the time, given how young I was (10). Hard to believe it's been a decade already.

I was in 6th grade at the time, and the grade schools weren't allowed to tell students what had happened. Even so, the first student in our class was called to leave before the starting bell had even rung. By the end of the day, there were maybe 10 students remaining in the room. Naturally, teachers had given up on trying to teach as there were too many students to try to get caught up later, and we weren't allowed to go outside for recess, so it ended up being a lot of games of "silent speedball" (a game a bit like Hot Potato, in which if you don't catch the ball you have to sit down, but you're also out if you say anything, hence the "silent" part of the name, so it was preferred by teachers). By the time I got home I was entirely confused, and even more so when my mom was waiting at the bus stop in the car, something she usually only did when I had a doctor appointment or something right after school. Then she started telling me what had happened.

She said she didn't come pick me up from school because she decided I wouldn't be any safer at home than at school, and the roads were so bad I probably would have gotten home at the normal time anyway. My dad worked within a few miles of one of the disasters, but I guess the military training in him made him to decide to stay at work or something :/ My mom was able to reach him before the phone lines were full, and apparently when she asked if he was coming home he said "No", sounding very surprised XD I believe schools may have been closed the next day, but I don't remember for sure. I was not directly affected by it, but I knew several people who lost family members or friends :(

Same as Kori. I swear I recall us acting out Dragon Ball fights as well, then our family told us to stop and listen to the news.

We were 8 and 10, so it's not very surprising that we didn't care at the time >.>

Be seeing you.
I was at my birthday party. All my friends had left and we were cleaning up when I saw it on the TV. I didn't really understand what had even happened until a few years later because I was so young.

Was at an 8th Grade Field Trip, and they cancelled the trip but refused to tell us why, and it was lame. We drove all the way down there (like a two hour drive), go there, told we're going home. Got back to the school, everyone was required to stay in the room they were put in, and not allowed to leave without supervision, as if they were gonna bomb our school next. I know it was a serious thing, but they're not going to jump from World Trade Center to Middle School in Central Jersey, though I do understand cancelling the trip, kinda, but mostly because it was so far away from the school to begin with.

Well, it WAS code-red security alert nation-wide that day, so maybe it was required?

That's possible, but when you're a kid and you have to go the bathroom...would you rather they crap themselves? You practically had to beg to be able to go to the bathroom >_> It was literally across the hall.

You'd think in that case they'd at least allow the buddy system and watch to make sure you didn't go anywhere else

You would think, but instead they over stressed like 3 janitors to do all the escorting...it was so dumb.
