![]() [Preferred Character Designs Contest: 2 way match-up] Final Fantasy's original character designer, Yoshitaka Amano, had a very unique art style which he likes to include little dragons and creatures along side his characters with a watercolor style. That type of design didn't translate exactly the same into a 2D NES game, so the Warrior of Light's sprite looks drastically different than the artwork. Over time, both versions became iconic for the series and Dissidia really focused on the numerous versions of character designs for each character. Choice # 1: Warrior of Light (Amano's Design) From: Final Fantasy, Dissidia Choice # 2: Warrior of Light (Sprite Design) From: Final Fantasy, Dissidia ![]() Discussion on which design you prefer is strongly encouraged. It doesn't have to be an in depth analysis, just let everyone know why you like the design you picked over the other one. *REMEMBER TO VOTE AT THE TOP!!* |

But, but, but, you're missing SO many other Warrior of Light designs! Spoiler: click to toggle But, seriously, though, Amano's design is the only one I view as the proper Hero of Light. The sprite design is just a Warrior, that's all. It's been reused in other Final Fantasy games, and it looks pretty simple, but Amano's design looks like an actual character and someone unique. Those images are stretching the page out so I put them in a spoiler tag so it's not so hard to view the topic. Those are Onion Knight and Hero class designs. I know technically they are all Warriors of Light but I'm talking about the design from the first Final Fantasy, the original Warrior of Light. Edited by andaryu, Jan 18 2012, 09:18 PM.

I voted for Amano's Design. I think that design looks like a 'Warrior of Light' and while the Sprite design looks cool it does look like a more generic warrior. |

I prefer the Amano's design for reasons stated, the original design for the character suits him perfectly. Although the sprite design looks awesome and it does fit the "RPG hero" stereotype, I can't turn my back on Amano's original vision for the character. There's actually one more design for this character in particular. In the CG opening of FF Origins, the Warrior of Light is shown with a more realistic look. I didn't include this since we're still on 2 way match-ups, but it's interesting to see how much his design has varied over the years.

Amano's design just because it looks a lot less generic than the sprite version. |

I've got to go with Amano's design. It seems to uphold the image of dignity that the title of Warrior of Light implies. The other just looks like, as the job class entails, a fighter. Not an honored knight, but a man just trying to get the job done. |

Be seeing you.

It looks like I'm in the minority here, but I like the Sprite design more. I just think the Amano version, while it looks really nice, is just too cluttered. I've also never played a Final Fantasy game besides Dissidia though so... XD |
