When did Nintendo really begin to decline?

Previously, they would regularly churn out quality games. Nowadays they're more about appealing to the casual gamer. Also, I don't have the exact statistics, but I read not too long ago that their sales were significantly down, and somehow I doubt that's going to change anytime soon unless they do something fast.

What are your thoughts on this topic? I used to truly adore Nintendo. Now... not so much.

Downfall on consoles: the Wii. Let's face it, it isn't nearly up to snuff with the 360 and PS3 when compared to how the GCN was against the PS2/Xbox
Downfall on first party games: the Gamecue(or maybe the Wii...). It had some amazing Nintendo-branded games, such as Wind Waker and Pikmin, but a lot of not so great games. The two GCN Zelda games weren't really received that well by one group of fans or another, Animal Crossing is, frankly, a childish series, the Pokemon games were pretty bad, and don't get me started on Star Fox Adventures.

Kachou on!
Pretty much what Enrei said. Except I think the GCN had the best first-party games.

Nintendo consoles used to be famous for being reliable and durable, but ever since the DS it seems even that has gone downhill. =(

Star Fox Adventures is awesome.

But yeah, Nintendo began declining with the Wii, definitely.

The crappy 3DS launch and the devastating stock loss when the Wii U was announced didn't help at all.

I don't think Nintendo is declining at all. Once again, they're proving they can control the workings of the majority of the industry, now with motion controls and 3D. Think about it: EVERY major console in the last 20 years has based it's controls off the SNES. Now, the creators of that model shake things up with motion controls, and it's bound to take awhile for everyone to figure out what to do with it, especially third party developers. I will also say that first-party Wii games are generally very well-done in the motion controls department: you can either sit there like the couch potato you want to be, or you can look like an idiot and laugh about it. It's up to you. Just because they show you the latter in all the trailers doesn't mean you have to play like that (obviously, games like Wii Sports are an exception). Nintendo knows exactly what they're doing, and they're going to continue to do so.

However, just because I don't think they're declining as a company doesn't mean that I disagree that the majority of the Wii library is shit. However, you could say that about every console, ever. The Wii just seems worse because it's a currenta-gen system and almost everything on it isn't a port from the other two competitors.

Also, Storm, I strongly disagree with your durability statement: My DS practically got hit by lightning and still worked for almost a year without any noticeable effects.

The same thing they were thinking with the Wii U. Nothing.

The most successful business tactics in the gaming industry are:
1. making games people want to play
2. being an awesome company(open to fans, interesting as a person, friendly, etc.)
Nintendo really has stopped doing both. Microsoft and Sony at least have blogs and things.
