When did Nintendo really begin to decline?

Kachou on!
Also, Storm, I strongly disagree with your durability statement: My DS practically got hit by lightning and still worked for almost a year without any noticeable effects.

I don't know about the DS Phat, but the Lite and DSi have issues. The shoulder buttons are extremely poor and stop functioning normally after only a year of use. You have to constantly blow in them to get them to work. And the Lite has a issue with its hinge. Some have completely broken off.

The 3DS inexplicably has the same shoulder button issue as the DS. In fact, it might actually be worse. And then there's the whole thing with the bottom screen scratching the top screen, which they STILL haven't fixed.

The Wii has serious problems reading dual-layered discs, and not even sending your Wii into Nintendo is a permanent solution. It's also very prone to overheating and if it does, your GPU can get fried and you'll see tiny grey pixels all over the screen on some games.

All of these are well-documented. I can't think of any notable issues with the NES-GCN and the Game Boys.

You guys just aren't able to appreciate their business tactics, is that it?
I understand their business tactics- they're playing up new-ish features like the touch control, motion sensing, and 3D, and they're marketing their games to the more non-gaming crowds.

Trouble is, these business tactics result in a truckload of games that are either

1. awful

or

2. would be much better without their pointless gimmicks (Skyward Sword, etc.)

Unfortunately their business tactics aren't about making really good games. They certainly try, but their priorities hold them back.

The Gamecube was good because it had loads of good games on it- AND good new stuff, too, like Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, etc.

This comes down to a matter of preferences. I personally believe Nintendo has declined a bit during a period of time, but they do things their own way so it's hard to compare them to other companies. I wish they would do certain things different, but that's why they are unique in the first place.

I do wish they would focus more on the hardcore gamer, but they have been doing alright lately. Overall it seems they do know what they are doing, and they don't plan to change the way they do things anytime soon. It seems like you either love them, or hate them at times.

@Storm, fair enough; I haven't had my 3ds long enough to notice a problem

Also, about the blog thing, if they DID have blogs, they'd probably be in Japanese anyway...

Sony is a Japanese company, too.

Yes, but a lot of their development happens in the US, too. Not true for Nintendo.

As an addendum, Slash and I sometimes have problems with the thumbstick. Like, our thumbs randomly slide off.

Happened to me a lot while playing Tales of the Abyss. Strangely, it's the only game I've had that problem with.

Refusing to even allow for HD? Forcing bullshit gimmicks in the form of the stupid motion controls? Having seventeen billion games for the system, and having the vast majority of them be either for little kids, or outright terrible (in part due to said shitty motion controls)?

I guess I'm just ignorant of the genius that is the Nintendo Wii.

Okay, I think I should clarify; The concept /behind/ the Wii was great, and they're still trying to pull it off, but the third parties aren't helping much... Yes, Nintendo should allow for HD, even though it's unnecessary, just because it would get weirdos like you to stop complaining :/ I for one love the concept behind motion controls, it's just that actually getting them to work extremely well from a technological design standpoint is extremely difficult, and until recently our technology couldn't even come close.
