When did Nintendo really begin to decline?

"Yes, Nintendo should allow for HD, even though it's unnecessary, just because it would get weirdos like you to stop complaining :/"

I'm no graphics whore, but to actively choose not to have the option at all is absurd.

Also, there are VERY few games where the motion controls don't make me want to kill myself, and (you'll never believe this) those are the games where they aren't the main idea behind the controls (No More Heroes, Baroque). Games where the gimmick is the entire point is one thing (Warioware works brilliantly, Umbrella Chronicles is an FPS, so you just point at the screen), but games that have the controls directly interfere with their gameplay (Alone in the Dark, Donkey Kong Country Returns) piss me right the fuck off. Yes, Donkey Kong, in this extremely difficult platformer where precision is key, I'm going to make you roll by shaking the remote like a retard, when a simple button press would be vastly more effective.

The fact that Nintendo got the technology to work at all is impressive, but get that unnecessary shit out of my video games. Yes, the concept behind the Wii was great, but good lord, does the Wii's library suck (ratio of good games compared to utter trash). And that's sad, considering that the Wii's library is extensive.

Here's the thing though: Games look like total and utter shit when played on an HD TV/Monitor, and the console doesn't support it, but tries to pull of HD graphics. It's one thing when it's an old game, like a GC game, or a PS2 game, which was never designed for high grade graphics in the first place. If you put Skyward Sword or Brawl on my 24" monitor, it looks ugly as shit. It's because the game tries to pull off high grade graphics on a small ass 480p resolution, when the monitor was built to support up to 1080p.

It's not about being a graphics whore, it's about being able to actually play the games without straining your eyes, and wanting to gouge them out.

Since everyone owns an HD monitor at this point (And it was VERY CLEAR that's where it was heading back when the Wii was released), there's really no excuse for there to be not even 720p support, especially when they're going to make their games attempt to pull off an HD look without ever having HD support. Brawl looks amazing...if you play it on a SD TV. If you have an HD TV, it looks awful in comparison.

The Xbox 360 didn't have 1080p support when it was originally released, however once that became a streamlined feature, they added it to the system. I don't think the Wii has been changed at all since it's creation. Both the PS3 and 360 have been adapted to situations regarding just about everything, but they're doing nothing to the Wii and expected it to be sufficient for years of adapting technologies.

welcome to the cauldron of hate
Also? When I was playing Skyward Sword, the first thing I thought was: "These graphics are so bad"

I actually quit the game right off the bat to make sure all my graphics settings were right.

And here I thought I was all about gameplay over graphics! I can play FF7 without batting an eye!

Maybe my expectations were higher because it was a new release. In any case, at this point? HD graphics are the standard. Nintendo really needs to meet this standard. Everyone else can do it!

I have a love-hate relationship with Nintendo, so basically whenever they do something to piss me off *coughTwilightPrincesscough* I consider that a decline.

The Wii in general is a decline for me because for one I don't like motion controls and to they seem to be neglecting fans like me for motion controls.

To sum it all up, I think Nintendo is still good, but they could be so much better if they weren't holding themselves back.

I really don't get the Twilight Princess hate. I think it was definitely better than Skyward Sword.

I should probably have added a bit of a disclaimer to my first post...
I think most companies are on a decline. Capcom was at its peak a few years back, then it stumbled, Sega is just doing its own thing, Microsoft/EA/Activision/etc. are just bad, and so on.
Honestly, of every game I've played in the past year, the only groups that stick out to me are the indie devs and From Software(seriously, these guys are amazing. Go play something they worked on.)

From what I hear, Atlus has also remained pretty good throughout the years. I've only played P3 and P4 out of their games though, so I can't say myself.
