I love MJNet Posted: 17 Dec 2005 11:25 pm DVD Ripper Since many of you are interested in the DVD ripping process - I thought you all might be interested in an excellent FREE DVD ripper I came across. We have now used it extensively and its been fantastic! http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...smartripper.cfm Well worth the download - and no obvious spyware with it (always a bonus) and it does a superb job without you having a watermark or lose of parts of the DVD you are trying to rip. Sue Not off hand - although you might be able to use Windows Movie Maker to at least edit it? We use Nero 6 and Nero Express that came as part of the package of the DVD writer I've just put into my computer. I will ask around on a few technical boards we go to. See if anyone has a recommendation. Zen moment Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 587 _________________ Karma or action is powerless to destroy ignorance. Self can be known only through knowledge. Hiya, I tried to download that quite awhile ago, it's been pulled from the internet bec of copyright changes after 1/1/06. If you or anyone else can post the prog at one of those free download sites that'd be very cool, I'm eager to try it--but finding it on the net is next to impossible any more. --e The Garden Assistant Joined: 21 Dec 2005 Posts: 600 Location: ny Jules2 Posted: 29 Mar 2006 07:46 pm Well i have come to the point where i can make clips. I use DVDshrink to rip the small files from the dvd, so i don't have to convert the whole episode. Then i use AVI.net to to convert the clips to .avi and size them down to a 352x240 format (otherwise my computer cannot handle it) And last but not least, i use VirtualDubMod to make clips. all free software. The ripper I use is Magic DVD ripper. It's a nice, easy to use piece of software. However, the extras from the dvd are put into a VIDEO_TS file, and when I try and import the TS file to wmm it won't take it. I've tried changing the extention to mpg, and that was somewhat successful, but I lose at least half of the video. Does anyone know of software that will convert the VIDEO_TS file into something that wmm will allow me to import? |

Every time I turn around it's a new download & I'm trying to get automatic competency is some new program! I know what you're going through.... Following quote is not mine but taken from some dude on some net site. You know how it is: "ch-----04 posted 2005 May 15 Any program that says it is capable of "demuxing" is what you are looking for. Also known as De-Multiplexing, it is the process of taking a .vob file, found on DVD's and splitting it into it's elementary streams (ES)." http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guidei...oselect=3;6#638 and esp http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=224833 pls let me know how it goes, I'm interested hearing what prog you wind up using & what format you're working with. It's Babel out there. I need to get the VOB files back into some kinda generic .avi format. I just want to watch them, not edit them! Sigh. --e |

OK, I tried a new ripper:IMTOO DVD ripper It converted the VOB files to avi, and I was able to import into WMM. It's a nice piece of software...before ripping the dvd, you're able to preview the clip your about to rip/convert. However, the trial version allows only 5 minutes of ripping/converting. So you'll have to pay for it, or dl from eMule. I've dl'ed from eMule, but I can t get the license code, or whatever it's called to work. How many genkey thingys do ya have to try before it works? EDIT Successfully dl'ed from HERE. Keygen worked too. |

ekny, AVInet will convert VOB files to avi files. The great thing about it is that you can also shrink the file. (make the window 352x240 or how ever big you want the window) This will safe space on your computer. You will need to download avicent (or something) too, but the program will give a fault warning if you haven't and tell you what it needs. Good luck! |

Hi Jules2, I followed your suggestions and have begun ripping the eps. I've been ripping small clips directly from DVD shrink and that seems to work well. The problem I'm running into is getting the avi file down to 352x340. When I import the ripped file to AVI.net, the smallest size it has is 480x272, which makes for rather large avi files. It's stressing out my computer *g*. What I was wondering is, how do I make the window smaller? Is it something I do in DVDshrink or do I need another program? I downloaded VirtualDubMod but I couldn't get it to install. I tried looking for answers on videohelp.com but the guides didn't help and they're always talking about movies rather than tv episodes. Thanks for all your help! |
