Oh, man, you know what? If I ever feel like I need a smile or a laugh, I just watch that South African trailer, because it never fails to lift my spirits. "No, I'm not, I'm Mandana Jones." |

i actually don't get that. what is magpie? but yeah, those trailers are priceless! i seriously can't get enough of them. sad, i know. i showed them to a friend who hasn't seen anything bad girls related at all. after watching them, her exact words were, "i need a cigarette." |

Well, according to a post in the "Dumb Americans" thread, both Blue Peter and Magpie were tv shows for children. Blue Peter was for snotty little twats, and Magpie was what the cool kids watched. Or, something like that. :p This is the post, if you'd like to read it yourself. ![]() http://z4.invisionfree.com/Nikki_and_Helen...hp?showtopic=98 |

i guess i still don't understand why she said it. i mean, what was it about calling herself nikki (too funny, btw!) that made her say she needs a job on magpie in particular? just that she'll get sacked from BG very soon and anything will do, or ... ? of course, it's probably just a brit thing that i'll never fully appreciate, but here's to cultural exchange. myrt. |

That is one of my fave parts of the trailers! I actually love how Simone didn't even notice Mandana called herself Nikki Wade until she said, "No I'm not, I'm Mandana Jones". Becuase I think it conveyed how comfortable they are/were with each other and how easily they would slip into character. Another part of the trailers that shows this is when Mandana is figuring out where to look into the camera and says, "I'm looking at Helen, how does that look?" Because Simone doesn't bat an eyelid at being called Helen, and Mandana doesn't correct herself either. |

wow i never noticed that helen thing until you pointed it out! i too was a little disappointed by the simone interview on that dvd, she didn't seem to want to give anything away. like when she was saying helen had a scottish accent and was good wiht handcuffs, it seemed a little forced. mandana however was open and honest. she seems like such a cool person. i actually wrote my first ever fan letter last week. because i thought she should know how much she's affected so many people. has anyone else written to her, or am i the only sad one on here? there is something about nikki, and i think we would be prefect for eachother, i'm about 5'10'' so i think we'd be the right height! hehe |

I wondered if it was in reference to the comment she made right at the start? "It's a bit like being on Blue Peter, isn't it?" Blue Peter is the polished "all the good kids watch it" show. "Magpie" was considered a bit more... unpolished. It was, at that time, a bit more "riskier" than most childrens' shows. (One presenter- Susan Stranks- is remembered for not wearing a bra.)While saying, "Someone get me a job on 'Magpie', quick," doesn't have any meaning on its own, it was an interesting opposite reference to her "Blue Peter" comment.
That was a fantastic moment, because Simone got caught up in the laughter, but it wasn't until the "No, I'm not" clarification that Simone REALLY started to laugh. It's one of my favourite moments, on the show or off. |

In love with a prisoner

I think someone explained it this way: Blue Peter was the upscale children's show, while Magpie was sort of the upstart, not-as-prestigious show. So, Mandana's joke could be broken down thus: 1. Mandana facing the camera makes a joke about feeling like she's on Blue Peter 2. Mandana screws up her lines 3. Mandana makes a joke about belonging on Magpies, because her screwup indicates she's not qualified to be on Blue Peter, she's only good enough for the less-prestigious show. Man, there's no quicker way to deflate humor than to do what I just did above. Sorry folks, but at least now the cultural reference is clearer for us American philistines. |

no, i totally appreciate that! i did read the whole blue peter / magpie discussion in the dumb americans thread (thanks for the link, romanmachine), but i had forgotten that she made the blue peter comment at the beginning of the trailers clip. it makes a lot more sense now. and i'm with coolbyrne: it'd be damn hard to make it un-funny or less enjoyable to watch. myrt. |

All i want to say is that.. if God said to me., in exchange for 10 years of my life, i can have just the one night with Ms. Mandana Jones ,you know what i will say? Take the rest of my life. My friend told me it was good.Didnt tell me about Helen and Nikki. Well,A whole week off was spent watching Bad Girls. Today, i can say i have read tons about them in the internet.Worn out the Replay button on my dvd player and now finding myself having the need to share this with you. Brilliant performers,Ms Mandana Jones and Simone Lahbib. I have a thing for women of authority. This is where i found Helen attractive. Nikki may be tall but if you look at the body language, it is often Helen pinning Nikki down. Go to Deleted Scenes. They cut off the bit where Helen pushed Nikki down on to the sofa. What about the last scene where she pushed Nikki onto the wall. As a character, i love the feisty, complex, outspoken Helen Stewart. As an actor, i know i would have a great laugh with Simone Lahbib at the local pub. With Mandana, it is quite something else.. .. I always have a thing for distant, elusive women.. It is her demeanour. It's in her eyes. The way she speaks, her smile. Her thoughts so well articulated in her speech. She speaks with such care and thought..and wisdom. You know that Mandana is anything but simple. Her birthday is a day after mine. There is quite a lot about her ,I can relate to,actually. Doesnt surprise me if she is a very withdrawn person.Someone who have heaps of friends but actually prefers a good book in front of the fire. As Nikki, i would have love to jump into her pants,anyway- she is gorgeous! As Mandana Jones the actor, i dont think i'd risk meeting her.. for fear of falling truly, deeply and madly in love with her. Thank you for letting me vent. Regards, Sharon |
