Didn't Sally Wainwright write the S1 ep8 "Falling Apart" ? She must be a screenwriter as well? |

Anybody looking at Torchwood? (Dr. Who spinoff) What do you think of it? I'm in the States and it's not being show here. I saw some clips on YouTube and apparently everyone on the show is bisexual. carly |

My TV favs are: Bad Girls Bill Maher on HBO Six Feet Under The Wire Homicide Seinfeld Curb Your Enthusiasm Battlestar Galactica Anything with Wanda Sykes,Chris Rock,Lewis Black. I liked Rome on HBO even though nearly all the reviews were negative. And yes, I've seen I, Claudius and liked it although I don't see why they have to compare the two. And for non-traditional media I love podcasts! Especially slate.com. The Battlestar Galactica commentary podcasts on scifi.com are really wonderful too. Wouldn't it have been great if something similar to the Battlestar commentary podcasts had been done for Bad Girls? I'd buy a new series 1-4 box set of Bad Girls if they added audio commentary for each episode from the writers and cast members . Oh well, I can dream... |

I've watched the first 4 eps of Torchwood and never noticed any overt bisexuality. Oh wait are you saying the actors are or the characters? Then again I can be so clueless at times. Torchwood hasn't aired here in the States but I have been downloading it from the UK. Same thing I did before Battlestar Galactica began airing S1 in the States. |

I read on wikipedia that Torchwood is supposed to have LBG themes. The bit torrent stuff sounds interesting - I'll have to check it out ![]() Here's the excerpt from wikipedia: Bisexual themes Torchwood deals with LGB themes, specifically bisexuality. Series creator Russell T Davies has described Jack Harkness as omnisexual: "He'll shag anything with a hole. Jack doesn't categorise people: if he fancies you, he'll do it with you."[8] Each of the main characters in Torchwood will have same-sex encounters at some point in the series,[30] with The Sun describing all of the characters on Torchwood as bisexual.[31] Davies has said that he hopes to defy audience expectations of monosexual characters: "Without making it political or dull, this is going to be a very bisexual programme. I want to knock down the barriers so we can't define which of the characters is gay. We need to start mixing things up, rather than thinking, 'This is a gay character and he'll only ever go off with men.' "[30] In Everything Changes, Owen Harper seduces a woman and then her boyfriend using alien technology and Ianto Jones also jokingly refers to Jack's appreciation of his good looks in a suit as sexual harassment. Gwen Cooper has a boyfriend, but she reciprocates the advances of a sex-driven alien in a woman's body in Day One, albeit under the influences of alien-enhanced pheromones. Later in that episode, when the possessed woman attempts to absorb the orgasmic energy of various men at a sperm bank, one of them briefly protests that he's gay. Toshiko Sato describes Jack as someone who'll "shag anybody as long as they're gorgeous enough!". Similarly, Toshiko is implied to be bisexual herself [32] and is attracted to her teammate, Owen[33] but will enter a sexual relationship with a woman.[34] |

Interesting that you say that. When I heard Logo acquired Bad Girls, I sent an email to Shed congratulating them. Then I proceeded to tell them that Americans LOVE commentary and suggested that they rerelease or release all series in Region 1 with commentary. I'm sure additional emails would get their attention and we might see it. America is a big market right. http://www.shedproductions.com/contact/contact_index.html Even better if we could get this in Itunes too! |

Hi aquarius68, sorry it took me so long to reply, I got busy w/other stuff & had forgotten I'd been participating in this thread... some tv-watcher, eh. Wainwright is created as 'creator' of the show. Haven't looked beyond for screenwriting credits, etc.

Texex, Thanks for the URL to the Shedd site. I hope Logo does play the first 3 seasons of Bad Girls. I really think there will be legions of new Bad Girls fans if it's actually given a decent, consistent time slot on Logo. I'm a relatively new fan ( < 6 months ). I tivo'd it on BBC America just on a fluke and was completely hooked! |

Bad Girls on LOGO http://www.afterellen.com/column/2006/11/17.html and the quote GOOD NEWS FOR BAD GIRLS Logo is expected to announce next week that they have acquired all 8 seasons of Bad Girls, to begin airing early next year. For those of you who don't follow British television, this is a series about women in prison that features several lesbian storylines, including a baby-knapping, a lesbian vampire, and a really bad theme song. Oh, no wait. Wrong lesbian soap opera! This one just has relationships. |

*bump!* Given that people are happy to speculate on shows that might not even be aired which may or may not have gay characters, I thought I'd plug The Wire again. (I haven't seen past S3.) This is not a show to watch because it happens to have a secondary character who's a dyke, although we can, in fact, count on 1 (disabled) hand the number of lesbian characters on TV who are also women of color. However, this continues to be one of the best goddamn tv shows I've *ever* seen, period. Character is Shakima "Kima" Greggs (Sonja Sohn); she's pretty butch, long-haired, black, has a gf (they do the baby thing but that's ok, actually: Kima isn't into it either). This is a cop show, so there's very little sex, but in the sole episode I can recall where anyone gets any play, the directors are scrupulously even-handed about giving all 3 couples equal time. And the 15 seconds or so of lesbian sex is surprisingly energetic. That's right, not everyone gets narcolepsy & starts moving in a gauzy, slow-motion haze when confronted with breasts. Go figure. This show gets all its details right, or at least feeling right (I would know from inner-city drugs?), and rarely wears its politics on its sleeve. Kima as a character really is just one among many in the big cold sea out there, as the show presents its cast. They're all memorable, and the baddies--whew, talk about an abundance of riches, wow. Omar has got to be the most winning bad guy since Spike. I just light up every time I see the guy. And he's a stone-cold killer--but--well. Go see, already. I should remind people (esp our overseas friends) this is a show that's hard for even some US viewers to understand, its use of regional drug slang & street idiom is definitely tough if you're not familiar. Discs absolutely do have subtitles; torrents might well not. Outstanding tv, epic in scale in the best way (unassuming, unpretentious); incredibly good story-telling, better than most films I've seen in the last year (or more). Certainly the best police show I've ever seen. Point blank. --e |

G3 Curtain and Duvet!

Haven't watched "The Wire" since season 2, but I agree that it's a fantastic show. It was recommended to me in much the same way as "Deadwood" and, in much the same way, it requires regular viewing to get the full effect. I only saw a few episodes of "Torchwood" that a friend had recorded when I was in the UK (soon nobody will watch live TV) and it was fantastic. In fact, I've promised myself the DVD's even though, with the exception of some Star Trek, I don't generally do Sci-Fi. Of the mainstream programs on TV now, I find "Criminal Minds" and "Without a Trace" to be among the best. I never watched CM in the first season and I understand the ratings were dire, but the network stuck with it and I can see why. It's intelligent, feminist, with flawed characters whom you don't always like. Fantastic acting, with few character-driven storylines, even though the personal lives of the profilers affect the profiles. I recommend it - although I doubt that in real life the FBI would devote that much manpower to some of the crimes they've investigated, I'll give the show points for erm cultural diversity. A. |

Good reminder, you're absolutely right: if you don't watch from S1ep1 in order, there's no way to follow.
It seems to be UK only for now then? I'll take your word for it & am gonna poke around for some torrents. Thanks for the recommend(s)! --e
