I said SIT IN THAT CHAIR

Howdy all, Well we made it through IKE but now are without electricity. So we have no air conditioning, no ice, and have to boil water or drink bottled water until the results are back on whether the water is safe. I do have two friends that got their electricity back yesterday late so my dog and I go sleep at their place at night. Trees fell like domino's in Houston but we did so much better than Galveston and some of the other cities right on the coast that we are very thankful. Just a thanks to my board buds for your support. None of us ever dreamed that a hurricane that big could actually knock out power for so much of the state, in fact it is still a bit surreal. Obviously I am at my friends place using their computer. Can't wait to get my power back on so I can get back online at my own home. Brenda

Glad you're ok, Brenda. A friend of mine lives north of Lake Charles, LA, a couple of blocks from the river...water rose to withing a half block of their house....some of their neighbors not so lucky. Electricity to return soon for you I hope. ss |

Hey, Bren, Glad to hear from you. I was worrying a bit this a.m. and I haven't heard back from my friend Jan yet. I'll bet she was wrong about the electric coming back right away and is still without power. |

Snow on October 21st? wtf We really only have two real seasons - winter and summer, with "Where the hell is Spring?" and "What happened to Fall?" in between. |

I could feel the snow but there was nothing on the ground downtown. But what's with the feckin WIND?!! And tonight is going to be something like -2C before the wind chill. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come because last winter was horrible - the worst I've experienced since I moved to North America. |

Earlier yesterday (28th) the weather forecasters were predicting snow for the higher regions of Scotland, but not for the south of England, so I certainly had a surprise when I looked out of my window just before 8pm to see everything covered in snow! It was still falling and continued to do so for a few hours. Snow in Hertfordshire in October? I don't think that happens too often! |

Hi JAMBF, snow! In Merry Olde England... now? Yikes. Better take advantage while it lasts. I bet people there don't even shovel. ![]() Allie--I can't recall when, early 90s? I had a gf up there who was telling horror stories about power being down for 3 weeks, some awful ice-storm that shut everything down for miles--and weeks. Though it might not have been when you were there? --e |

My mom had snow on the ground on Monday - at bit early for that even in Northern Minnesota (it has since melted so she didn't get much). Here in Georgia its been 30s overnight and low 50s during the day - which is fairly cool for us. The wind has been pretty bad. |

Well in Houston, Texas we just set a record last night and supposedly again tonight for lowest temperature for these dates. From hot to hey need a coat and jeans. Crazy weather many seem to be having in quite a few places.

Meanwhile here in LA it's the third consecutive day over 90 degrees...isn't this the end of October? I'm confused. |

According to the news reports today, the last time it snowed in October in Southern England was 1934! Today the sun came out and everything was rather drippy and slushy, and walking under trees was not a good idea, unless you wanted to risk being bombarded with a cascade of snow as the drooping, still leafy tree branches shed their loads and sprang back into place. There is still snow on the ground though, so it was quite a heavy fall. |

Snow in Pennsylvania too. So much for all the pretty leaves...On the eastern side of the state, the weather has been bad enough to cancel presidential campaign stops and World Series games! I hope it's not a preview for what is to come!

Here in the upper mid left coast, just 500 miles from LA, we are hoping for rain. Should be here by Hallow'een. That would be a normal weather pattern, and it would be nice if it stayed normal for the winter and get us out of the draught. |

So, I know it's a little early to bitch about the cold, but-- oh hell, what am I thinking. It's never too early. ;p It was 20º last night; it's only 27 now. Which does seem a bit much, this being uh, mid-November & all. |

We're having snow here! Real, sticking snow for the first time this season. They've had it north of the city before, but this is the first time we've had it down at the lakefront. Very pretty, although it's going to be a bitch to walk in tomorrow. And yes, it's cold. Just below freezing. I'm not used to that anymore... |
