Hey aj57. I'm back in Toronto and yes, it does seem as though spring has sprung. I was at a party last night and we were actually hanging out in the back yard (ok, there was a fire going) with no jackets. My friends were looking up at the stars and chatting about them (I wouldn't know the big dipper from a kitchen ladel) and we could almost pretend it was summer. :)

I haven't ventured out today, but it's gorgeous and the lake looks flat and blue BUT the Gardiner Expressway is closed and traffic on Lakeshore Blvd is indistinguishable from the parking lot at Ontario Place, so between that and the sheer number of people who have come downtown because of the good weather, I might not venture farther afield than my dusty little balcony...

Hope the weather is as nice wherever the rest of you might be. And that the days of balcony skating rinks are over.

Here too. And though I haven't been outside, yesterday was just as nice, and I spent most of the day outside. Had a picnic brunch in a garden near my apartment, then took the Vespa (my girlfriend's new toy) out to Brooklyn and visited some friends, all of whom have decks and yards. Nice! It's wonderful, but also really disconcerting to have such gorgeous weather when just a week ago we had that nightmare storm.

I'm on a work "vacation" up in Northern California...It's springtime in Marin County, Nor Cal...that means green grass, wild flowers and sea breezes. One more month and it will all dry up into golden California...it'a absolutely gorgeous up here this time of year...say 70 with a slight breeze.

I know what you mean about cold & rainy. Weather in the SF Bay Area has been quite backwards, this year. It didn't start to feel like our version of winter, until Spring hit.
It claims on weather.com that it is mostly cloudy outside, 60ish F with a high of 69 F. Looks right sunny to me, though. I guess it has to do with I spend my days on the Bay, rather than Ocean side of things.

Hey fellow Bay Arean :) You are quite right about that; I remember a few days in March that hit the 90's. I spend my days in the Santa Clara Valley where it is significantly warmer than other places around the bay.
We are officially in a drought with rationing just around the corner; especially those that are on Hetch Hetchy, which of course is all of SF.

75F here at the moment... but tomorrow and for a couple of days after it it's supposed to rain, so I guess I won't be too upset about staying inside on my 4-day weekend (National holiday here) and having a BG-fest (thank God for DHL).

It's 85 F today, going to be 85 again tomorrow. Co-workers are borrowing my soda, lol. Looks like days of mid 70s after that. :D I can enjoy the temperature, well, when it stops being over 80, anyways. On the downside, it's not like I can make much use of the sun. Sure, I've lived in California all my life, but I'm extremely pale & don't tan.

28C here today. Not bad for Canada, eh. Of course, just like California, there is a smog advisory. Oh well, can't win them all.

LOL, washuai and everybody. It's like clockwork.
Where I'm staying in SF I have a beautiful view of the sunset ....welll usually. Just like you said,we're in a cooling down mode, no sunset tonighht just the good ole SF fog obsuring the western horizon blowing the coolness into the city. Back to the usual windows closed at night vs the last couple of nights with this unusual heat.

so, you don't have the same smog problem as l.a.?.

In short, SF doesn't have the same smog problem as LA, no. You can look at smog levels on www.weather.com, too.

LA smog is nasty and LA's smog blows into the valleys, where I grew up, where the hills and mountains hold it in, which makes it collect and get worse.

SF doesn't have more smog, because it has less sprawl, higher winds, more mass transit, I think maybe better ordinances on air pollution and SF is surrounded by three sides on water, which doesn't create any geographical means of keeping the smog about. Also, the lower temperatures, make a difference. Also, a higher percentage of people in the Bay Area have a shorter commute, than Angelinos, which means even if they do drive, they aren't driving as far or as long, so they produce less smog, that way. Also, the industry is more likely to pollute the bay water . . than the air, we don't have a bunch of nasty factories.

San Jose, on the other hand, which is more inland (south of inside of SF Bay), is more spread out, & less dense, but still urban, has more smog and higher temperatures, still not as bad as LA.

Yes, there is more fog, especially on the Pacific Ocean side. I personally don't mind fog, but I don't suffer aches, when there is foggy weather. There's more fog, more rain, more overcast days and cooler weather in general. It can be a perfectly sunny day with a nice crisp breeze, but at early/late hours, one needs a nice warm jacket.

Usually fog and/or overcast has burned off or moved on by midday.

Since my post got so long, I thought it more appropriate to post my response here and I'll be creating a link from the thread where the question came from, in the muppet wing.
