Double-check your TV listings- I think with the elections next week, SVU is a repeat! |

G3 Curtain and Duvet!

SPOILER ALERT FROM SEASON 4 * * * * * * * For people in Canada who have access to Global2, the re-runs every weeknight really keep me as a fan because as good as the show is now, I think it lost something when the character of Alex Cabot left. This week we saw the re-run of "Loss". When I saw that episode for the first time it hit me (like an anvil?*g*) that Alex and Olivia might have been more then friends - perhaps not at the time of the episode, but at some point in their interaction. First it struck me as odd when Olivia started freaking out after the shooting, calling Alex "sweetheart" and basically begging her to live. But later, when she found out Alex was alive and her voice broke almost as though there was too much to say, it almost made me cry. Then as she stood there with what looked like LOVE written all over her face, Alex looked back and nodded as if to say, "I know, I feel it too." Seeing that episode again, I could find no other reason for the level of pain and that wordless connection between the characters. This time I rewound the episode to look at Elliot's reaction - after all, the three of them were friends, so events should have hit him hard, too. And they did. His reaction was what you'd expect from a friend - but Olivia's loss was so much deeper. Following Olivia's transformation from "Butchy McFabulous" to pink-dressed, long-haired and ultra-femme, I expect her to be in bed with Elliot by the end of this season. I'd find that a bit creepy because their relationship always seems so brother/sister to me, but her calling his name when she was knocked out seemed like a hint that the writers could be going in that direction. I want Olivia to get some action, but of the ADA variety not the almost-incest variety. Am I the only one who wants Stephanie March to reprise the role of Alex? *sigh* A. |

That is one of my all-time favourite scenes of the entire run of the series. For me, it ranks up with the scene between Lennie and Jack at the end of the first episode after Claire died. Jack says, "I convinced her to stay" (to keep her job as a ADA, which, to him, led to her being in the wrong place at the wrong time), and Lenny replies, "And I could have kept walking past that bar." Of course, if you haven't seen the ep, that doesn't make sense, but I have to say, the look on Jack's face when Lenny walks out tells you right there that Jack was sleeping with Claire. It wasn't said out loud, but the way Sam Waterston played that moment, you knew. In the very same way when Olivia asks Alex, "How long?" (in regards to Alex going in the Witness Protection Program), you knew there was something there beyond friendship. Not said aloud, but you knew. Ah... the days of Butchy McFabulous... Have you seen the episode two seasons ago, CBG, called "Ghost"? Alex comes out of WPP for one ep. There's a moment where the writers try and drop a manvil on our heads, but in that same scene in the hotel, you can just feel the connection between those two characters/actresses. Chemistry can't be manufactured, no matter how much they wrap it up in pink. |

I thought I was hearing things when the woman said she called out Elliott's name.... NO!!! I had a horrible realisation to where the series may head. Incestuous indeed... I've been enjoying Series 3 re-runs and also Series 4/5 which showed 'Loss' in Aust. on TV1. It certainly reminds me of how good the early series was with a certain ADA on board. Stephanie March reprising the role of Alex would make a lot of people happy

I remember the MANvil (yes, caps are necessary) being as much of a shock to me as the hoYay in "Loss". It was fascinating to read that someone interpreted Olivia's "someone you're not" comment to mean that WPP forced Alex to live as a striaght person even though she's a lesbian. There was enough evidence to establish Alex as, at least, bisexual, for me to not get that vibe - unless she'd been extremely out... No, scratch that, becaus ethe assassins knew what time she went jogging in Central Park, so they'd know if she was shagging Benson. *sigh* I guess that's the problem with SVU subtext, it's so damn plausible no matter which interpretation you put on it...
Indeed! A. |

I don't recall this ep but I just looked it up so I can search for it to watch and it is Season 5 episode 4. Will have to find it now and watch as I totally missed that subtext prior. |

Sorry about that. Global is running through the episodes in order, so there's no indication of when one season ends and another begins... and I'm easily confused. Anyway, the episode is available in five parts on youtube (I did a search for "Law & Order: SVU" "Loss" and found it immediately). Not sure if "Ghost" is there as well, because I got distracted looking at Alex/Olivia music videos. And yes, some of them are a bit dodgy. Still, I'd have no idea how to do that sort of thing so more power to the people who make and share them.A. |

It was a fantastic show back then, wasn't it? There's discussion on another board that the last two seasons have been an attempt to attract another, younger demographic. Reminiscent of BG and, from what I can see, with similar results. I really look forward to the release of the season 3 DVD's, I just wonder why they aren't doing it in time for Christmas shopping... Nevertheless, I think season 4 when it comes out will be my last purchase (I already have season 5). I don't like the current play for ratings. I mean, I almost expect a special guest appearance by OJ Simpson... Of course, if they really want buyers like me back, all they have to do is bring back the Glasses of Power and Justice. :ph43r: A. |
