I've just seen to the end of series 2 part 1... erm last ep is Pegasus. So I won't be watching the series 3 promo yet. We have only had series 1 on TV in NZ so far. Someone in Aussie has lent me series 2 pt 1 & I think will send me part 2 after it comes out on DVD. I particularly like the Boomer character in Series 2. Or should I say characters? Apart from anything else I really like the music at the beginning, with the title sequence. It's very haunting. I have a copy of Downloaded on DVD too, that someone gave me but I haven't watched it yer cos I haven't seen the eps leading up to it. I know Lucy Lawless was meant to have an NZ accent in the prog, but in Final Cut it doesn't sound particularly Kiwi to me. It seems to me like a fairly neutral accent with some touches of a US accent on some vowels and "r" sounds. I liked when she said that Baltar was a strange little man. Made me giigle. I really liked the scene when Starbuck went back to her flat on Caprica, for some reason. |

Well.. you can always download uTorrent.. and then download the rest of the episodes.. wait until you see the finale!! You will need a stiff drink!!! And make sure youre sitting down hehehe Boomer is a great character! The music is wonderful. I have the soundtracks from the miniseries and the first season. Youre right about the accent! I never realized that. It isnt as strong as I would think and is quite mellow! Good call! I think one of my fave lines also involves Baltar.. when Six tells him.. Wake up and smell the psychosis Gaius! hehe I liked the apartment scene as well. It kinda make you realize what everyone lost.. how deserted everything was and it gave a bit of personality. |

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm on dial-up. It would take over 24 hours to download one ep and would tie up my phone line for that long as well. I'll wait for the DVD That scene gave Starbuck some personality too. I had gone off her a bit before then but started to like her more after that scene. |

Gone off Starbuck?!?!? Say it isn't so!!!!! I absolutely adore BSG!!!!!!!!!!! Oh wait I did say that in another thead here somewhere. I forgot to upload my sig image last night so alas it is still not below my post. :-( The writting for BSG is brilliant and I like how they are slowly developing the characters. Just wish they wouldn't kill us during these long hiatuses. At least I heard that it is only going to be a month during Christmas between the break of the 1st and 2nd halves of the season. Also heard there will be much more of Lucy Lawless. |

Tasha Yar, thanks very much for the offer of sharing BSG eps. NZ is region 4 I think. But my DVD player plays US region 1..... and my multi-region DVD player can copy it to NTSC as well. But maybe I should wait cos I think my Aussie contact will be sending me the rest of series 2 before long.... and then maybe copies of series 3 off US TV... tis the Xena network, Lucy Lawless etc. There was a scene or two in series 1 when I thought Starbuck was behaving like a bit of a fascist - torturing a prisoner I think? And she's a little prejudiced against Cylons which is equated with racism in series 2. Now I know Cylons are meant to be non-human, but increasingly they raise questions about what it is to be human. And I think the prog is making parallels with contemporary attitudes. One of the ways fascist violence has been justified, at least since the time of the Third Reich, is to regard people who are tortured and mistreated as being less than human. So increasingly I am on the side of some of the better Cylons and against non-Cylons when they treat all cylons as being the same. Lucy did a good job with her first ep in BSG - non of the inconsistemcies that there can be in her acting. And there was a touch of her great sense of humour to it.. She's become a regular in BSG 3 and is living up in Canada while filming the prog. |

Campgrrls, you'll have to let us know when you are caught up so that we can discuss some things. I can't recall the timeline for some of the scenes in my head so rather than accidentally spoil things, I shall just remain silent. Not easy for me when it comes to Galactica, but I shall try anyway. <g> BTW, there are some great graphics that fans have created on the scifi channel's message board. Makes me really want to take my photoshop skills to the next level. |

Ooooooooh she looks so adorable in that ad, Avalon. Better than she looked in that show playing a 15 yr old pregant girl. Watched it recently, not having any idea that Katee was in it and whammo! LOL |

In love with a prisoner

Hey, thought this deserved a bump, since S3 starts tonight! Yay! I'm a huge fan of the show, although I've been catching up on S2 on my ipod, so that's why I wasn't participating in this thread back in August. But in particular I love the moral complexity, where they tackle pretty much every issue in our current political and cultural environment, but they do so in a way that makes you see it from a different side. Like, religion in politics. So, look, I'm against it. What can I say. But in BSG, you've got two characters I really respect (Roslin and Starbuck) who believe in religion and it's guidance, and Roslin in particular sees herself as a bit of a prophet sent to guide people to Earth. Sound familiar? Just a wee bit George W Bush-y, right? But when it comes from an intelligent character who is a really good leader, I find myself saying, hey, what's wrong with using religious faith to guide your governing decisions? Or, say, corrupting a democratic election because the outcome is so Wrong? So I just like the way it turns my viewpoints all topsy turvy and makes me rethink them. Plus, strong female characters. Can't wait for tonight! |

So what did people think of the episode? Sadly it didn't have my total attention because I was on the phone on about 6 different occasions dealing with a work crisis (yes, on Friday night--it totally sucked!), but I found the episode very involving. I was a bit puzzled by the Cylon's rationale for this new era in Cylon-human relations (they think this occupation is better than anihilation? Why?), but I am sure it will all be revealed soon, probably to have something to do with this hybrid mating experiment the Cylons are so focused on. The episode was pretty clearly trying to evoke the occupation of Iraq, but of course putting the audience in sympathy with the occupied, not the occupiers. I also really loved the moral questionable actions for moral reasons (Ellen protecting Saul by giving the Cylon's the location of the resistance-Gallactica rendez-vous point etc). |

Abzug, so glad you bumped this. I haven't been around much for various reasons, but popped in and saw this thread high up again:-) Have I mentioned how much I love BSG and have had withdrawal without it? What I love is that I see this as the Star Trek of the new millenium not afraid to tackle any issues. Not comparing the story in any way to Trek, but the original Trek in the 60s took on many topics which were taboo at the time like interracial dating, unending wars and the mixing of various species. And here we have the Cylons who are intentionally mixing and seeking children with human genes. Yes, there are religious differences and the suicide bombers parallel what we see in current headlines, and yet this is still a scifi program. Definitely, far darker and deeper than the original BSG ever was. Interesting also, how feelings can change between and about characters as the circumstances do. The Colonel asks Anders if there is any news on "Kara." He doesn't call her Starbuck or even use some sarcastic tone, but with sincerity. Even with their difficult past, he showed some sensitivity. Very interesting. SO sorry that work got in the way of your viewing. I turned my phone off and basically told people not to call me then. Yeah, I did have work email open just in case but no one needed me. |
