Okay, I was watching BSG the other night and I noticed one of the officers....so it's the one where they're all being taken by the cylons to be executed or whatever in those convoy jeep thingies...and then a shooting breaks out, Callie tries to escape, etc etc.....and then the man who yelled for them to stop for the five minute rest gets shot.....and this female officer goes over to him as he's reaching for the gun on the ground....he's like "it hurts" and she goes..."good, I'm glad" or something like that....

Okay, I can't remember her name....but she's ridiculously beautiful.

And I do NOT like Thrace with long hair....just..ew.

She's lucky she's so attractive aside from that....or else I'd be so turned off..

And just a touchy dykey, didn't you think? I definitely noticed her too. Fingers crossed she's not just a one-ep guest star.

Good episode on Friday, I thought. The whole bit about Hera being the first human-cylon hybrid is really interesting because this whole subplot with Starbuck's "kid" is rather confusing. That child looks older than Hera, which means it's not Starbuck's offspring, and they are just conning her into feeling loyalty toward the child. As a way of controlling her.

I've still really been loving the camera work they've been using on New Caprica. That whitened lighting effect combined with the unceasing wind really makes things seem so barren and desolate. Dessert-like (which I am sure is not an accident, given the political statement they are trying to make).

Agreed !!!

She better not be a 1-ep guest star...I'll cry.

Anyway, oh yes...I'm LOVING that whitened lighting trick.....

I don't know, I just want them to get back to Galactica already and be done with it....but, it's interesting to see things from the Cylon perspective...

Um, kinda slow on the uptake here & only just catching up with S3 but, did anyone notice Maxi is the ship's medical technician/whatchamacallit? It took me awhile bec the make-up was so different, so even when she spoke, it wasn't til she turned at a 3/4 angle I caught it. Was glad to see her back here & there throughout the season.

I guess we never mentioned that here, but I remember noticing it (again, like you, it took me more than a second given the lack of eyeliner and the very proper accent) and mentioning it to someone or other somewhere. I thought on this board, but maybe it was in an email. Given that the show has at least 3 UK actors in the cast, I'm surprised only one of them is an actor I recognize from other things, given how much UK tv I've been wathcing recently.

OK, did anyone else see last week's episode? I mean, WTF?!?!?! Starbuck offs herself?!?! The weird thing is, watching the episode I was SOOOO annoyed with all the Starbuck scenes with her mother, around this abuse (is that supposed to explain her general dysfunction? It seems so facile), and in fact I fast-forwarded through the last one, which I guess was supposed to be climactic. And then, poof, she was gone. Huh? And here they were emphasizing the fact that she had a destiny, of the religious sort. I just don't get it. How can the series continue without this character?

I said SIT IN THAT CHAIR
Starbuck can't be dead, although it seems that next week, the finale, half the main cast might be cylons.

Ok, well I wanted to wait until after the season was over to view this thread again, spoilers & all that.

A friend & I have been grousing about the complete Badness of the last 10 minutes of S3 & our serious disappointment with the show. He sent an email today which read, in part:

"I am grateful that they made the wait [until S4] so much easier. In fact [...] I think they can even skip the first episode of the next season because we already know that it will contain

--A slightly imperfect reconciliation between Adama and Adama.
--Baltar getting laid by a groupie
--Callie overhearing and misunderstanding a conversation between Sharon-Boomer-Athena and the Chief
--Helo torn by an ethical dilemma and finally taking his concerns to the Admiral, who will gruffly reject them.
--Tigh will tell him in private that he is a Cylon and Adama will say, "You can't be. You are my oldest friend."
--No mention at all of Tom Zarek.
--Kara Thrace gives Lee a pair of red slippers that will take him to Kansas
--A colorful edgy character leading some group of civilians in a way that Adama doesn't like. "

I agree that S3 pretty much sucked. There were actual full stretches of episodes that I had to fastforward through. But you thought the end of S3 was particularly bad? I'd be interested to hear why.

I must admit, I am intrigued to find out how each of these four react to the news that they are Cylons. Because it's this deeply human issue of shifting loyalties. Some may decide to stay on the human side, while others to join their true brethren. But none of the four will truly know what the other four have decided, in terms of loyalty, so there will be constant second-guessing, just among this group, of who to trust. Tigh already doesn't trust whats-her-name, Roslin's chief of staff. But how does he expose her when
1. He doesn't know for sure if she's staying loyal as he is, or is now an undercover op for the Cylons
2. He'll reveal his own identity by exposing hers?

It kind of reminds me of people who emigrate and then become loyal to the new country where they live, which could have been an enemy of their old country. Or even, on a more day-to-day level, people who go to work for a competitor, and suddenly must totally shift their mindset and loyalties, to help their new company succeed, when in their old job they were trying to ruin that company.

(Sorry. It turned into a rant. What can I say, I was Disappointed. Very disappointed, to quote Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda. Except he had a gun.)

I'm not a major sci-fi head, so I could be off-base here, but nothing in the last 10 minutes made a damn bit of sense--in terms of plot OR character-development (or lack thereof). And there was no need for it. Any of it. It was really a resounding failure across the board--as I said in my email, a failure of imagination, more than anything else... I'm sure there's some narrative term for a show committing suicide like this. It's just so damn disappointing. They screwed up too many things to fix, imo.

1) They can't be Cylons. It's frakkin stupid: it literally doesn't make sense. From a narrative pov, the entire power & meaning of their stories come from the fact they're human. Take that away, who cares? Not me. Tygh, just for ex., can't be Cylon. The cylons didn't have humanoid models 40 years ago when he started fighting in the last war. DUH. I mean chrissake, who was writing this stuff, the screenwriters' nieces and nephews? It violates basic rules of the universe they've set up.

2) The music thing--ok, so I'll try to be brief since it irritated me beyond reason: also exceptionally stupid. It should've been vague groovoid music like the BSG Theme Toone (even though I prefered the S1 toon, myself). (Do NOT spell it out. The whole damn season had way too much telling & far too little showing.) The Cylons don't make some habit of visiting um, "Earth" and picking up specifically meaningful sociocultural moments that will deviously resonate with their human prey so they can uh--what? Bombard them with some Rayz from some Canadian studio band doing an especially pathetic cover of a Dylan tune to force everyone, screaming, into a room where they'll look at each other and say When! O Lord, when WILL this nightmare be over? No, I can't go on, it's too--well, again: stupid. They should've taken something vague and amorphous from any one of the THOUSANDS of years of history of the 12 colonies, say? and plugged that in.

3) The 5 missing models. Sigh.

You know, this is a good idea. A really good idea. They didn't NEED to frack with it. That's like--Lost. Oooh, let's put a, like, dinosaur on a tropical island & like, whoa, dude, drop a submarine into it with cool 50s music. Kill me now. This is just as bad: ooh, what if The Five are behind ghostly white light & shit? It's not necessary. Each Cylon model performs one task, it's got 1 function. Six is an infiltrator model, basically. Etc. So--that's enough. We don't need more. That's a good idea; explore it. We don't NEED their identity to be hidden, that's just lazy scriptwriting. The whole operahouse thing does dick for me.

4) Starbuck. I think you could make a good case for Starbuck being the emotional center of the show. She's Spike. This is her task, man, her Destiny. Take it away by making her a Cylon or killing her then bringing her back through the ghostly-light-dudes or whatever, again--it's just without meaning. Like the other 4 characters... but 300x worse.

If she's killed herself for real, her much-vaunted "destiny" is pretty meaningless. Not to mention that was staggeringly badly prepared for. A character who's defined as a Fighter now mysteriously over a 20-minute period loses the will to live because her mommy was abusive? Yeah, I get the abuse thing as cumulative, but there was simply nothing in her plot trajectory pointing to this place. Everything pointed to the exact opposite place. Everything. And now she's going to be like, Ghost Sky Pilot Girl showing up every 5th episode saying stuff like "I've been to Earth."

Um. Yeah well, me too. And I don't need to spend hours watching you get there. I um, look out my window. Shrug. Mom always did say I was gifted.

5) It's like they skipped a step. Which is what the worst episode--the Saggitaron episode (and no I'm not going to look that up on the net to find out how to spell it correctly because 1) I think the astrology-theological bullshit is THE most ill-advised and embarrassing part of the show [not counting Disaster Ending here], and 2) bec I no longer care that much)--does too. All the scriptwriters had to do was add ONE line to explain why suddenly all these scruddy Foreign people are offloading onto the ship. They couldn't manage that? It was giving us a lesson I really didn't need but whatever. Good intentions, lazy scriptwriting. Helo-actor did his best, it was a script 1 rewrite away from finished, it can pass.

That's ok for a filler episode. But for the end to a season? Ridiculous. You know when you have characters staggering into each other like Pod People saying Oh. No. Not. This. Anything. But. This. --to each other!--there's a serious car-accident happening.

Plus I was reciting song-lines along with them after Clue Number 1. Which I usually reserve as my Star Trek trick for company: you know, put on a show--any ST show!--I've never seen before and I'll recite lines along with the actors, first time out. Now, I really never expected that from Battlestar Galactica.

Boy, did these people blow it. Honest to god, what IS it with tv people? They keep saying: we've done this in the past, Therefore it must have worked. We'll do it again. Cut & stitch. The audience won't notice.

Talk about pod people. They have exactly 2 episodes next season to redeem this shitpile or I'm done. --e

BSG was picked up for 1 more season, after which time it will end. How this got renewed after last season's debacle but Deadwood got canceled, I will never understand. --e

I went to a screening of the new BSG film, Razor, last night. It's going to be broadcast on the SciFi channel on Nov 24. Once people have had a chance to watch it, I'd be very interested to hear people's thoughts about a certain character/relationship/storyline.

Abzug--without spoilering me, can you tell me: is this supposed to be "in between" series 3 & 4, like the mini-episodes during series 2 aired on the internet; or a stand-alone, or what? --e
