AfterEllen had an article about this show last week:

I've just watched the first 2 eps, and I have to say I'm hooked. It's kind of deliciously trashy, but incredibly compelling. The lead actress is absolutely gorgeous, and Eva Pope is still fantastic. I could probably watch her in anything. That sternness is very appealing to me for some reason. The show like a sex comedy and a thriller all tied into one.

I'm sorry to say that this series ended by propogating that most horrible of lesbian stereotypes: the homocidal suicidal lesbian. Appalling. ITV cancels Bad Girls, a show which spent 8 years dispelling this stereotype, and this is what they offer up? Ugh.

yes, the suicide thing was really awful.
But for me, the way Suranne Jones played the encounters with Eva Pope's character was brilliant. There's a gay sensibility there in her that I haven't seen in a while in an actress.
And I liked how the whole gay/bisexual issue was a non-issue actually.

In some ways I agree with you munky. Definitely about Suranne Jones as an actress. But how did you feel about the fact that Linda (Suranne Jones's character) stated explicitly that she never felt truly invested in her relationship with Angie? That she never felt seriously about it? To me, that makes her an experimenting straight woman, not a true bisexual who has the ability to fall in love with another woman. I was really disappointed by that aspect of the ending as well.

That was the script. With the little bit of gay thing she was allowed by the script she did a very good job. She's equally at ease and brilliant in Dead Clever (which I just saw) with the gay thing.
From what is said in the inteview that ekny posted this easeness and thruthfulness in playing a gay part (or part of a part) comes from being able to understand falling in love with another woman in real life. I'd love to see her play a fully fledged gay character (or at least with a fully fledged gay storyline) and I don't think it's impossible to happen. And hopefully she'll never go out of her way to reassert her real-life heterosexuality (which is really of no concern to us).
They explored too little in the series what made Linda's relationship with Angie happen (we know more about it from the interview). And unfortunately, with Angie killing herself, even if the show gets renewed for a second season, this will never be explored any further.
It's ironic though to say that Linda was not with Angie because she wanted kids when that is exactly what her husband couldn't give her. It might as well have been Angie's brother who donated the sperm.
What I like about Suranne is her expressiveness as an actress. She reminded me a lot in this respect of Simone. I watched 2 series of Vincent (the Tv drama she's in) and I couldn't escape comparing it with Blood in the Wire. In both the women are the second lead. But with Suranne she seems to co-leading with her male lead, rather than just exist there as a side-kick. And she's only 27!

Amen to both of those statements, munky! I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, you really had to piece the history of the relationship together with only very minor clues. Kind of fill-in-the-blanks. In watching the conclusion, with the "fast-forward" two years, I couldn't see how they could continue the show with a second season. The only two characters who would remain are Linda and her husband. I guess you could still have Linda as an advisor to the sex-crimes unit, so you'd have the crime-solving aspect. But the love triangles all wound up getting resolved one way or another, so the show would turn into "sex-counselor-by-day-crime-fighter-by-night" kind of thing. Which I guess doesn't sound SO bad....

She was on Corrie at one point, I don't know who she played though.

ETA: Just checked IMDb. She did indeed play Tanya Pooley and appeared in 9 episodes.
