Ah no, the end was rather moving. However I was more moved at Alex speaking to Tony in the car. How quiet she was made it all the more upsetting...

I almost cried when we found out the real killer. But I agree Lesli, the scene in the car was very moving. I think that Simone could maybe put that much emotion and reality in that scene because she is a mother herself. I think that's quite helpful.

Did anyone else get reminded of Helen/Fenner moments when they had the final E-Fit and Alex said "bastard"?

I thought the same with the "Bastard" moment! Ok, I found some summary's of the episodes... Highlight below if you'd like to see. Not sure if they're fully correct, mind!!

Black magic is the theme when Alex investigates the deaths of a teenage girl and a young boy, who bear signs of ritual killings. The trail leads to animal sacrifices and paintings in blood. As the investigation turns personal, Tony remains sceptical but Paula and Kevin appear to be cursed by voodoo dolls. Then Alex and her son become the killer's latest targets.

A teenage girl and a young boy are found dead bearing signs of what appear to be ritual killings. Alex (Simone Lahbib) is upset by the lack of care shown by their bereaved families as she's having problems of her own with her son Ben (Thomas Byrne).

The trail leads to links with a property tycoon who'll stop at nothing to get the rent paid, a preacher whose "healing" activities involve animal sacrifice, and a self-styled artist whose works not only depict violence but are painted in blood. For Tony (Robson Green) the dead bodies could be a warning and he puzzles over what the killer might want to gain and why. Is this religion? A curse? A threat? Is it one killer or two - with one suspect the acolyte of another?

Meanwhile one prime suspect is killed when the property tycoon collapses with a fatal heart attack after receiving a sinister doll apparently sent to instil fear. Paula and Kevin become targets of further disturbing messages with Paula taken to hospital unable to breathe and Kevin involved in a bad car accident. Do the voodoo dolls have something to do with it? Then a second prime suspect dies while apparently attempting to ambush Tony.

But worse is to come. Alex has taken Tony's advice and hired a nanny, easing her pressures with Ben and work. When the nanny returns home without Ben the team realise the awful truth. The killer has been lurking unseen but close by, manipulating the police via psychological suggestion just as they have manipulated their victims. And the killer now has Ben...

Ok, so the week after that...

Two career women are found raped and strangled in Bradfield wearing the clothes and identities of other victims killed years earlier in Europe. The trail leads Tony and Alex to successful businessmen – but are they guilty or victims of identity fraud? As he tries to unravel the deadly puzzle, Tony faces a problem of his own when 18-year-old released killer Jack turns up on his doorstep.

Tony (Robson Green) is faced with a series of deadly puzzles when a killer rapes and strangles young female victims in Bradfield but chooses to dress and identify them as young women he killed several years before in Europe. Why is he boasting to police about his past, leaving the bodies where they can easily be found? And why - and how - is he choosing confident, successful victims from the world of business, and killing in Bradfield?

Tony and Alex (Simone Lahbib) encounter further confusion when they begin to link the foreign murders to the names of more than one Bradfield businessman. Could these people be prime suspects or are they still further victims caught in the killer's web? They must discover if the killer is really wealthy and powerful or someone with no money and a vengeful desire to steal from others.

Meanwhile Tony has his own problems when 18-year-old released killer Jack (Jack O'Connell) turns up on his doorstep, on the run from his social workers and police because he can't cope with living under his new "released on licence" identity. Alex longs for Tony's help when she discovers that Ben has been secretly in contact with his dad. But pride stops her from confessing her need, and sparks a series of misunderstandings.

Eventually Tony realises that the killer is someone who believes the world owes him adulation and reward. This arrogance leads to one small slip - and an abandoned shopping trolley gives vital evidence from which Tony is able to deduce some truths about the real life of the person behind the fake identities.

Having finally unmasked their man, the team race to reach his last intended victim before he gets to her. But are they dashing to save the right person? Because this is someone who will stop at nothing to cut all ties and escape.

And finally...

When a vulnerable elderly woman is suffocated in her own home, Alex and Tony suspect Bernard Kelly, a security guard who has a dysfunctional relationship with his mother. But when the killings escalate, it appears to be the work of more than one murderer. Could the deaths be connected to the sudden return of Tony's old hero, respected psychologist Jonathan Goode?

The murder of an elderly woman, suffocated in her own home, seems too deliberately staged to be an accident of robbery. And when Alex (Simone Lahbib) calls in Tony (Robson Green) he realises that the killer will strike again. To set a trap, Tony and Alex hold a public meeting which Tony predicts the killer will be unable to resist attending. At the meeting, Tony's profile of the murderer sees one member of the public stand out as prime suspect – thuggish security guard Kelly (Ian Peck), who lives with his overbearing mother and has also been seen near the scene of crime by several witnesses - including frightened local man Donovan (Ken Bradshaw).

But Kelly and his mother hold out under questioning and, as Tony predicted, the first murder proves to be the start of several killings - all showing the same signature but apparently different personality traits in the finer details of their execution. The differences seem too profound to allow for only one killer... but if it's two then it seems that one of them knows the other or has inside knowledge of the investigation itself. More worryingly in Tony's view, the killings show signs of escalating bravado. Perhaps the two killers are in competition... and if so, where will that end?

Meanwhile Tony has an initially pleasant surprise when old friend Jonathan (Michael Maloney), a psychologist whose work he admired when they were students together, turns up out of the blue. But Alex immediately dislikes Jonathan, and her instincts are proved right as he attempts to drive a wedge between her and Tony. Eventually Tony realises that Jonathan’s life is in ruins, and the friend whom he once looked up to is now a jealous wreck. But worse follows as Jonathan decides to destroy himself and take Tony’s reputation down with him...

With Jonathan's secret now in the open, Kelly’s dark secret is also revealed, and Tony realises the way to draw the potentially competing killers out is to offer them the ultimate challenge in their rivalry: himself as bait. The result is a surprise for all, as the relationship between the killers is not what Tony imagined, and the bait is not taken as naively as he had hoped. Suddenly Alex is in danger and only Tony's psychological skills can save her.

Also found this:

Simone Lahbib - DI Alex Fielding

Simone Lahbib admits that she would find it hard to cope with the hectic lifestyle of Wire in the Blood cop DI Alex Fielding.

"Although we are both mums with busy jobs, our lives are very different and I have it so easy in comparison with Alex. I can't imagine the constant stress of a life like hers. For a start she's a single mum whereas I'm so lucky to have a supportive family and husband. Alex has a constant tension at home because she's worried about doing the right thing for her son, then having to go back and deal with her job, for which she has to be in a state of control and very together. It can be at times quite traumatic for her, but it's also great stuff for me as an actress to play."

Simone was delighted to be back as Alex after joining the hit series last year. "It's great to be back. I enjoyed it even more this time around. There were occasions last year when Alex was a little green in some areas but now she's beginning to be able to work alongside Tony more. They are very different but there's an understanding there that wasn't there before. She still doesn't compromise where she stands on things. Most of the time she trusts Tony's opinion but she is coming from the police side and she needs the facts and the evidence to do her job and catch the serial killer. It's good to have a profile but she needs to get to the next stage."

Just as Tony and Alex have formed a strong partnership, Simone has enjoyed working with Robson Green and the rest of the Coastal Productions team. "Robson is a joy to work with. He can carry a show and he is a great leading man. When we are shooting such heavy subject matter, with Robson there, you don't feel you are taking it home with you. He gets the balance right and I am just so fond of him. I know he calls me a good audience but I love his sense of humour and he makes me laugh. But that's no good when you have to go for a second take! Also, the cast and crew that Coastal pull together for each episode are so strong. They don't have huge egos but huge personalities, and that makes such a difference when you go to work."

In the new series, the investigations take their toll as Alex finds it hard to find time for her son, Ben (Thomas Byrne). "She's got lots of strong personal stories going on. We find that Ben's father has started to get in touch and is calling Ben behind her back. She also sacks the childminder because Ben referred to her as 'mum' and Alex got jealous. She often has to work late and has to rely on strangers to look after him which must be so hard. I hooked into the storylines even more than last year because they are so close to home."

Unlike Alex, Simone was able to take her 20-month-old daughter with her when she filmed Wire in the Blood in Newcastle. "She's a toddler now so we had to keep her very busy all the time we were filming. It would have been impossible to keep her on the trailer all day like last year because she's such an active little girl. People laughed because the house where we were staying was full of climbing apparatus with a bouncy castle and soft play stuff. She also spent a lot of time at the beach and going to playgroups and classes."

Adds Simone: "She's growing so quickly, she surprises us with new words and new things that she can do every day, it seems. It's a very exciting stage. She also loves posing for the camera! It was great because my husband (actor and writer Raffaello Degruttola) was able to be around more this year, whereas last year he was in the States a lot. My mum (Jean) came down from Scotland and they all came out at lunchtime to see me. Coastal again this year have been very supportive. My daughter was surrounded by her family and she was happy and she thrived in the environment, so I could go into work relaxed.

"I get really involved in the stories – you have to in order to bring it to life. The voodoo one was interesting. Alex doesn't believe in it but she wouldn't mess with it either. She has a certain respect and is careful. The people she is dealing with believe in it and that can have cause and effect in itself. I was surprised how many people practice voodoo, even in the UK. One of our guest actors, Femi Elufowoju, told me that he was aware we were dabbling with things that are potentially very powerful, so in his scenes he made a personal choice to be careful not to evoke anything. Everything that he chanted was prayers of protection. When you're working in this kind of environment, it makes it all the more real."

Recent events involving child abduction also struck a chord for Simone. "When I watched the news about Madeleine, the missing girl in the Algarve, the reporter was talking about the differences with the police in the UK, where we use the American system of issuing an Amber alert to get information. Our first story is all about the Amber alert in child abduction and how those first hours are so important in how the police proceed. It’s a very powerful and poignant story line."

Stirling-born Simone returns to Scotland in the summer to make a short film with John Hannah and will be back as DI Alex Fielding when the sixth series of Wire in the Blood begins filming in the autumn. But in the meantime she is enjoying spending time being a mum at the family's home in London. She says: "I recently turned down a job similar in length to Wire which would have meant working away from home again. It's hard turning down good work but doing two in a row so quickly wouldn't have been good for the family. Before we had the baby we spent far too much time working apart. We don't want to do that now."

Simone found fame as lesbian prison governor Helen Stewart in Bad Girls and was a regular in Monarch of the Glen. Her other credits include The Young Person's Guide to Becoming a Rock Star, Family and Heartless.
