Hey, I thought the question was when did Nikki know she was in love? That's a different answer than sex fiend's "you should give it a go" flirt flirt scene in the library....Somewhere;s it's been talk about how this scene in the library is the first time Nikki goes on the offensive in the relationship. "Same way you are, (pregnant pause) iffff you are." The whole scene is just way too cute and flirty...I also love the editing. I have always wanted to count up the seconds without dialog in them, the back and forth reaction shots withouth either of them saying anything. The nervous chuckle from Helen before, "not in that way"; the top to bottom checkout Nikki does before the eyebrow raised smiley, "you should give it a go." I swear there's as much non verbal time as verbal, but in love...nah just not so, just the first full on flirt initiated by Nikki.

Can't stop by without offering my opinion of the love thing. Nikki is crushed out for sure, but it's not until she yells Helen's name down to her from her cell at the end of S1 that the strings of love of tugging. Previously she's been rejected (why are you avoiding me), she's thought to save Helen's a** (I did it for you), it's before she watches out her window for Helen's return (slumps back on the bed forlong when no sign of her), and finally, the first push to get Helen to say the feeling is mutual (tell me I mean something to you and say it again). Yep the yell from the window.

I think it might have been earlier than that. For me there is a big distinction between being in lust, being in love, and actually loving someone. [...] I don't quite know when Nikki fell in love with Helen, but I think by the time Monica tried to top herself, Nikki already loved Helen.

Yes, she very well may have fallen in love with Helen earlier. I was talking about the moment she realized it. :)

That may have been true in S1E2, but I think Nikki felt a lot of lust for Helen. "I want to make love to you all night long" and "I've imagined this so many times" (after they make love in Helen's apartment) were both strong indications for me that Nikki feels a very strong physical desire for Helen, not just an emotional one.

Yes! They definitely have a physical attraction (otherwise, what's the point?), but the initial relationship was not built on this lust. The lust came after the declaration of love, "I love you (Helen)... tell me (show me) that you love me"...

I thought desire was all over Season 1. Probably from their first meeting when a riot was about to break out, they both had to establish themselves in the eyes of the other and they challenged each other. Helen eventually won that little battle and Nikki was put down the block. From then on, the looks that Nikki shoots at Helen are pretty telling to me. More than that, she is being defiant and provoking... She makes a point of showing Helen she pretty much detests her, I think it's a way to mask her desire... She wants somebody she doesn't even want to like and chooses to loathe her instead. (I hope it doesn't sound like much of a stretch there, but it's truly the impression that I got.)

This is sorta off-topic but on-topic since someone mentioned it previously.

I always thought the scene in S1 where Helen and Sean were potting plants in the flat showed that Helen's intentions were to come across as the write "species" as well as the right "variety" to Nikki—Sean planted that seed so to speak (and I did intend the pun). She says something like "Maybe that's the way in," but then passes it off as offering a gardening class. I always thought that scene kinda showed Helen had ulterior motives with her initial Nikki flirtations and then found herself, I think in the next episode, surprisingly attracted to Nikki in the library when asking had she never been attracted to men.

As far as Nikki being attracted to Helen, it was prior to her meeting with Helen to go over her sentencing plan because if you watch that scene, Nikki is obviously smitten with Helen. I think she began to love her around the episode where she get's Helen's number and rings her.

I wish I could remember the episode numbers for all these instances but as I get older, the memory fades. :)

She says something like "Maybe that's the way in,"

You know popstalin, my first reaction when I saw the reading of that line and scene was exactly that. Definitely a suggestive mistatement, hey I'll become a lesbian. Even subsequent viewings I still see how the reaction, the reading and the placement of that line is meant as a foreshadowing. As you would say, planting a seed.

Hi Lisa289, I agree with your page-1 reading of the progression 100%. Just didn't quote in full cause... well, why bother quoting the whole thing, you know? But I think you're spot-on across the boards. :)

One other lust-thought. Wait, I'm in the right thread, right? Anyway, in S1E7, when Nikki gets moved to Enhanced, and Shell makes the comment that Nikki must be shagging Helen, the look in Nikki's eye says she's definitely thought about it. So the lust part had to have started before then. :)

DeAr seX fienD,

also, tHe Helen ass-glance (1.5?), A Classik Combustable Moment, even for epicures of subtlety--from thE OtheR side of CourSe.

The Flirting Walk-Away moment (for a mo seriously), is one of the first I can think of that looks conscious, on Nikki's part.

yRs trEwly,

I'm still blaming Helen!

S1E1: she doesn't even walk out of that awful pink little cell down the block when Nikki has to get dressed after she's been in the strips!

I think in S1Ep7, after meeting Sean, Nikki realised that she fancied Helen and she thought there was some connection between them.
My take on this question is that Nikki's interest definitely peaked in S1Ep4 after Helen let her off with the warning. In S1Ep5, Nikki realised that she fancied Helen and responded to Helen's flirting throughout this episode with decidedly dreamy-eyed expressions. I'm guessing she took Helen's flirting at face value and thought there was some connection between them (which there was of course, only Helen didn't recognise it). In S1Ep7, loved the look on Nikki's face when Shell says "You must be shagging 'er"! The potting shed scene was definitely pure lust brought on by Nikki's jealousy of Sean.

Her feelings for Helen grew between then and Monica's suicide bid. And I agree that when Nikki was risking Monica's life, she must have realised that she more than fancied Helen: that she was falling in love with her.
Then, come S2, Nikki is so ecstatic to see Helen return and I think that first ep of that series was when Nikki realised that she had fallen into the deep end. And it comes to full realisation when Helen's on the roof.
I truly believe that as soon as Nikki realised that there was no going back on her part, she had to let Helen know exactly how she felt.
Spot on! Exactly what I was thinking! Nikki is both spontaneous and passionate, so I could well imagine that as soon as she realised she was in love ... she just had to tell Helen!
