Kip is the dutch word for chicken. So imagine how a cinema full of people reacted when Julliete Binoche characters passionately cried: Ohh Kip!
:rofl Bet it wasn't quite the reaction that the director expected anyway!

Not sure if they ever dub films your way or not. But if they do, do they ever think about dual meanings of objects, names etc and change them?

P.S. Please tell me that someone has cracked the N/H quiz. And if they haven't, please tell me they have anyway ..... ;)

They have and they haven't. Last time I checked there were still 3 door locks missing. Buttons is on the case...

Not sure if they ever dub films your way or not.

They used to dub some of our TV stories in the 80s from a "foreign" language (English, French, Dutch, German, etc.) into Afrikaans. This lead to the "dubtoitis" phenomenon where people's mouths moved out of sync with their words: either their mouths would move and no sound would be coming out, or their mouths would be still and sounds would come out. It was appalling! Luckily they've stopped dubbing programmes. Oh, and you could listen to the original soundtrack if you wished to do so, by tuning in to a local radio station.
Make a HOTCH in the POTCH...

No dubbing; it sucks. In Holland we use subtitles. And i think that's a good thing, because it is how i learned most of my English.

And no, the question hasn't been answered yet. Three more doors to go. I offered to put the episode numbers online, but buttons didn't need them. So like microsofty said: buttons is on the case. We'll just have to wait a bit longer for her to come up with the answer.

Better get the bar stocked with it soon. Once everyone reads your 'When Harry Met Sally' reaction they'll be thinking "I'll have what she's having." Oh and good luck next week too!

Haha! You're description of my reaction as a "When Harry Met Sally" reaction made me laugh! I wasn't quite that excited! But yes, I shall get on to Annette to stock it in the bar :) And thanks for the good luck wishes :hug2

Okay, so maybe I exaggerated just a little bit! *mutters* ..... must buy cream soda ..... must buy cream soda ..... mmmm

Yes I take your point, Jules2 and microsofty. Dubbing can be really bad. I watched TV in Austria a long time ago and the dubbing was absolutely appalling. My German is not that hot either so I only recognised every third word (if that!). I can't remember what it was but luckily it was something I had seen before so it didn't really matter too much.

Okay, so maybe I exaggerated perhaps a little bit more! But then they wouldn't have invented exaggeration if you weren't meant to use it, right? *mutters* ..... really must buy cream soda ..... really must buy cream soda ..... mmmm

No microsofty, you were supposed to tell me that the quiz was finished! So Buttons is on the case. Lets hope she is right on the button. (I think that's an American phrase meaning exactly right? Americans seem to have some quite bizarre sayings about buttons.)

And suddenly market researchers all over the world are scratching their heads as sales of cream soda soar .....

Think we need some new topics here .... otherwise we're going to have to rename this the cream soda thread. :D

Oh heck! I forgot to get some when I was out today too.

Haha, sales are soaring from a "Lisa from Wales" and a "Cassandra from Scotland"!! Very odd.

Cream soda thread! Dez was talking about making me my own thread for Snow Patrol and Avril Lavigne lyrics. Maybe pics of cream soda can go there too! I think she was kidding about this though

Well, maybe you should consider a 'Lisa's favourite things' thread. Then you can have all the music and cream soda that you want!

I think that would classify as spamming! Having a thread for just my favourite things..........maybe I could make it part of the LI Club....... will have to consult Liza and Lis et al :)

and now for something completely different - the word "shag". i take it it's not considered as objectionable as the "f" word, since it's used so often in BG. probably the equivalent of "screw" over here. there was an austin powers movie called "the spy who shagged me" in north america. there was some talk about whether they could get away with that title in the uk, so i'm not sure if it was released under the same title over there.

i have a feeling that shag is also the name of an animal, a bird or something?

Yeah, it's the name of a seabird, kinda of like a cormorant (if you know what that is).

Doesn't it also mean the surface of a rug or carpet?

The Austin Powers film was called that here as well.
