Sorry I had noticed your question about the Irn Bru song, I just hadn't got round to thinking of an answer yet! Think there might have been but I honestly can't remember.

That's what happens when you age.

I've just finished my lunch of Scots meat pie and beans...after another visit to the Scots baker/butcher. I've also bought a steak pie with puff pasty..mmmmm.

They sell a tinned beverage in there I've never heard of called VIMTO. Have you guys already discussed this? Is it a pop or something?

Great! And eating lots of meat doesn't really help then? That Scots baker/butcher must rub his hands in glee everytime you enter the shop!!

Never heard of Vimto! But then if it isn't directly between me and the Irn Bru, I probably wouldn't notice it! :)

Never heard of it either, but I Googled it and it seems that they have a whole range of products apart from the soda.

Thanks microsofty. Don't mind if I do. *reached over and takes one* A little chewy maybe? Well apparently Vimto is quite popular here. Think I'm just unobservant (who said blind?) as I haven't noticed it before. The bottle looks a little like ribena so I've probably just dismissed it as a ribena type drink. You also get fizzy and cordial versions. Is it a bit like blackcurrant squash maybe?

According to my local supermarket .... "Concentrated fruit juice drink made with grapes, blackcurrants and raspberries sugars and sweetener. All blended together with loving care and a tantalising mix of secret herbs and spices, for the most amazing taste experience you'll ever have". Sounds intriguing ..... but think I'll just stick to my bright orange, fizzy, diet Irn Bru! :D

Well, if you didn't really live in Scotland, you wouldn't know these things.

In your case, I'm thinking it couldn't hurt.

Might I just add Microsofty and Cassandra now you guys are just showing off. Nearly every post you make is now accompanied by an image. I tried to copy one of your images and post it here just because, but it didn't work. I have to conclude this is a tragic set of circumstances. (my complete inadequacy)

I think now as a point of principle, I will never post an image ever. That will be what makes me unique.

:eek Show offs?! Nooooooooooo!!!

It's really easy to do images, aj57. I use TinyPic to upload images, it is super user friendly! No registration required and it's free. Once you've uploaded your image, it gives you a code thingie for message boards that you just copy and paste into your post, and *whoala!* (Oh, and sometimes it is necessary to resize your image before you upload it, but for that you can use something like MS Office Picture Manager).

Forget your point of priniciple and give it a try! It's really easy!

See aj? That's exactly what I told you (but without the 'whoala' step) .... but did you believe me? ... no!

Anyway you'll have to eat your words (along with the steak pie) and post a piccie. So we'll expect to see some nice images .... hopefully not of steak pies (though I quite like them) .... in the next few days! :)

Ok guys, thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go some time on the weekend when I can concentrate. I really think the "whoala" thing is what will make it work though cassandra.

I'll have to considerl buying a tin the next time I'm at the Scots baker

This just confirms my suspicion that Cassandra really doesn't live in Scotland.

Well done aj! You posted a piccie. :party Guess that whole "whoala" step thingy made a difference then.
Let's hope you didn't kill too many small furry animals in the process ..... wheek!

what's an ocker aussie

The best way to describe an ocker aussie is a 100% true Australian. They eat, sleep, walk and talk Australian.

They are hard to come by in the cities but when you go to the outback there fairly easy to find.

Think of the character crocodile dundee, and Steve Irwin. These two people I would consider ocker aussies.

Same as our rhyming slang it is used but mainly by people who live in the bush.

Dog's arse's - glasses
Joe Blake - snake
maggot bag - meat pie
dead horse - tomato sause
reg grundies - undies
pork pie - lie

Not uniquely Australian or even Ocker. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest that the London cockneys thought of it first, though it's regularly shortened here to "porkie(s)" - & used thus in conversation by non-cockneys! ;)

Thanks Stircrazy. We talk about "telling porkies" up in Scotland as well. Never occured to me where it actually came from. It's obvious now that you've pointed it out! :)
