G3 Curtain and Duvet!

I completely agree with your assessment, both on KST and the movie. Really liked this movie, but as you say, it may have been the BG ambiance that increased the the frisson of watching it. I was also quite innocent as to the plot: I thought it had been reviewed well, but had no recall of the subject matter, except that one woman was getting out of prison. "Born in Flames" - I enjoyed mucho as well way back when, but it there perhaps a version with a better sound? As I recall, it was a challenge to understand even Flo, who was just fab in the role. |

This has so far won every award it's been even nominated for, something ridiculous like that. Normally I don't care about vampire films but I have to admit, it sounds interesting, I have seen this many raves since... well, in a while. If anyone sees it in tºrrentland, please let me know? Thanks very much! --eLåt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One In) 2008 It's already slated for a remake, in which I have zero interest. |

... And I see it is at my local cinema. In Swedish - a popular language with some people I know and will be the convincer for getting some other people around me for a vampire movie. I think I could bite the silver bullet and go see it this weekend. Will let you know.;) |

Ok, there's a remake of 8 1/2 being made? A REMAKE? Of 8 1/2?! What fresh hell this. I'm so appalled I don't know whether to splutter or simply declare the very idea profane & be done with the matter. Sorry, but this should just be illegal. There's a limit. |

I found Let the Right One In on demonoid ekny - so take a look there! Search under that title. I never quite get the whole "Let's make a remake of an already great movie!" concept. To me, it would make more sense to remake a movie that wasn't very good and attempt to make it better. A movie that was already great (or in the very least good) really doesn't need updating. Like that shot for shot remake of "Psycho" some years ago. I mean WTF? |

Well I am still booked to see it tomorrow pm or Monday eve - we can compare notes. ![]()
That would be something worth discussing. Among classic movies, Maltese Falcon and the English lang version of Intermezzo come to mind in terms of being better the second time around. Has there been a remake in our lifetime that betters the original? |

Are you sure about that, my sweet? I know 'they' are making a film of "9" which is the musical version of "8 1/2." |

It's got a good (and very gay) director (guy who did "Chicago") and a fascinating cast. Musicals are not remakes. They're a whole other realm unto themselves. Don't worry about it. Hey...theater major here, I will give no quarter in my longtime love of musical theater. <G> Besides, you can make anything into a musical...look at Bad Girls...

I just wanted to put in a plug for Milk and Australia. I saw them both this past weekend, and they were both fantastic. And if there is one man out there who could turn me straight, it's definitely Hugh Jackman. He is just so luscious. I've also discovered that I can put Netflix movies in my queue, and then walk over to my tv and watch them using Tivo. It's like a miracle! I think I'll be watching a LOT more movies soon. :-) |

I'm so jealous! I have a series 2 Tivo - so the Netflix service thing doesn't work on it. I'll get to use this when I update the Tivo! I have to recommend "Gran Torino" for a movie to see. Yeah, it has some cliche moments to be sure, but overall I really enjoyed it (and I'll admit: I cried like a baby). |

It's worth udating your Tivo just for this. I'm actually tempted to get a second one for our other tv (right now we pay the cable company for their horrible dvr service, which pains me every month). Here's a question about Gran Torino: Let's say you're REALLY not a Clint Eastwood fan. Let's say that watching him on screen feels a bit like fingernails on a chalkboard. Is the movie still worth seeing, even in that case? I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and was very underwhelmed. It seemed to think it had something significant to say, but I couldn't figure out what it was, other than that when one has money, one can also be open to whatever life has to offer. Or something like that. :-) |

Well Clint is a big part of Gran Torino for sure. So if he bugs you that much, you might not enjoy the movie. However, the actors playing his neighbors are very good - esp the two playing the brother and sister (who he primarily interacts with). Plus, some interesting discussions about religion etc. And though you sort of know exactly where its going ... I still found myself a bit surprised by the ending (if you see it, you will probably know what I mean). The ending, makes it a bit different than most movies you associate with Clint Eastwood - esp in his youth. I still recommend checking it out. If Gran Torino is not a movie for you ... then see Frozen River and The Wrestler - both are excellent. My nieces recommend Marley and Me. Even my niece Brynn, who rarely cries at any movie, cried! I'm not sure if I really want to see "Benjamin Button" - it all seems a bit Forrest Gump-y to me and I hated that movie ... I mean hated. |

So I saw Låt den Rätte Komma In. It's a somber piece of filmmaking, very lean script & starkly beautiful cinematography. There was something especially satisfying about this movie, I'm still turning it over some days later. I think it's that this film fulfills some of the most basic requirements of the art, which is not so easy to do. Ie it tells a story with great economy; it tells the story in a way that feels so inevitable, you don't think to question it (not its particulars but rather the story itself); and you're left still thinking about it when the film's over, ie it's had an impact. On a basic level I don't think one can ask for more, really. |
