Oh man, I love it when you rant!

LOL. Is that what that was? Good thing I held back.

But not to worry. Borrowing a line from last weeks show, my blood pressure is back to normal. :silly

Wow, what an improvement one week can make. Last night's episode was a great one, again. And it makes me perhaps a little more willing to forgive the travesty which was last week's ep. Erica's monologue about glasses and leaves at the beginning of the episode was AMAZING. Both in the way that it explained the feeling of realizing you're gay, and in Brooke Smith's totally emotionally raw delivery. I loved it. And also felt profoundly uncomfortable as I watched, which is how it should be.

Callie continued to be a total fucking bitch, and although it seems like all is forgiven at the end of the episode, I'd like to see some scenes where Callie actually provides Erica with some emotional support, because right now I'm thinking Erica can do better than Callie. But it does seem like the relationship is going to continue for a while, so that's good news: a bonafide lesbian couple on network tv!!!

Let’s hear it for needing glasses to get past the green blob stage!!!
No more green blobs. I am so, so gay. Yay. Hahn has found her glasses.

The glasses speech is the longest piece of dialog Erica has probably ever said on the show. (Disclaimer, I’ve only seen 2 episodes, the rest is youtube cliff notes.) I did not expect Hahn to start tearing up… that whole bit totally got across to me as what a relief it was for the character to realize, admit, AND be able to vocalize that she was gay. A beautiful thing.

Meanwhile, Callie listens and starts to detach and disengage. Luckily she got up out of bed already fully clothed (insert rant here for those who might enjoy) so when she runs out on Eric a second time, “I gotta go”, she didn’t have to waste time responding to the gift Erica just thanked her for. But I, for one, would sure like to see Callie express some sort of emotional connection to her girl…we just don’t get to see it yet. Until the end of the episode, Callie is still running. When Callie tells Eric at the end that she wants to be with her, I, as audience, still don’t get to see where this is coming from. I’m also agreeing that Dr. Hahn definitely deserves better. Well onto next episode to get some satisfaction on this issue.

Callie finally looked confused (as opposed to last weeks disgusted) by the results of her “research”, testing the theory that when the sex would be different with a guy but it wasn’t for her. At least Sloan called her on her cheating. I think I actually like him.\

“No one likes a girl who gets emotional” The emotional thing…three more times in the episode, three different characters make a comment about getting emotional. That, and I counted two apologies; Callie’s to Erica and the Chief to the show’s namesake.

I’m looking forward to more Erica and her leaves research. ☺

Getting glasses was exactly like that for me! Suddenly I could SEE. It was also that way when I discovered girls made a whole lot more sense for than boys.

I agree with you though ... I wish I could really sense that Callie does indeed want to be with Erica - I just don't see (hee) that at this point. I've always liked Sloane so yay to him pointing out the cheating.

Well from what I just read, I see my Thursday nights will be freed up again. So long to 'emotional girl.'

Before it all ends I want to add that I thought the Erica/Brooke Smith reactions/acting in the ending scene were beyond nuanced.. First she's her usual huffy steak knife edged self ready to do a put down on the expectant forthcoming apology from Callie. Then when the "processing out loud" Callie blurts out all her version of seeing the leaves, ...or not, maybe a whole forest...Erica starts to listen. She hears the confession of cheating. (I love that little thing she did with her tongue against her cheek.) Her first "okay" has a small question on the end, a lead on as if she said, "Okay, and....?" And there was something more. "Twice" Callie further confesses.

Flash back to the scene last season when Erica reams out Callie, not for sleeping with Mark, but for not telling Erica she was sleeping with Mark. Well she has told her this time and Erica's second "Okay" is one of acceptance and perhaps, let's move one. Unfortunately, I don't really get where Callie's, "I know that I want to be with you," comes from. I haven't seen it. The relationship can go several directions from here. Where will they take it for the time that's left? Trust issues? Out at work? This last scene from last leaves it open to what could follow. TV production is "in the can" usually about 6 episodes ahead, so at least I can enjoy Brooke Smith's Erica up to the holidays. That is unless the production has been sitting on this news.

Is there any truth to this? I just found it on one of my other boards.

"...over at EW.com and Michael Ausiello revealed that the show let go of Dr. Hahn played by Brook Smith. The order apparently came from the network not Shonda Rimes. Rumour is they didn`t like the "explicit" direction the storyline was headed and for the character of Dr. Hahn. ...Hahn`s last eppy airs this week."

Last episode. Wahhh? So much for my 6 episodes out wishful thinking theory.
So yeah, guess Dr. Erica Hahn wanders off and gets lost in "The Forest", can't be all bad for her. LOL. It's just we the audience will never know.

TVGuide.com:

Grey's Actress "Really, Really Shocked" by Ouster from Show

It is the worst and last news that "Callica" fans expected to hear. But the fact is that Brooke Smith, who first appeared as Grey's Anatomy's Dr. Erica Hahn in May 2006, has been abruptly let go from the show — just as her lesbian storyline with Sara Ramirez's Callie was taking off. Ironically, series creator Shonda Rhimes broke the news to Smith in mid-September, just after the actress had filmed Erica's pivotal "I see leaves!" coming-out monologue. Her last episode airs this Thursday.

"I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV," Smith tells EW's Ausiello, who first reported on her release. "So I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn't write for my character anymore.

"I was really, really shocked," she stresses. "It was the last thing I expected."

Though ABC declines to comment on the reason for the unexpected ouster, Smith says that in her talk with Rhimes, she got the feeling it was dictated by the network. "I don't know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda's] hands were tied," she says, "like some decision came down from above."

Might the nature of this frank exploration of two women coming to terms with new sexual orientations proven too hot for ABC to handle? Smith saw no such signs. "At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not," she tells EW. "I don't think I'm ever going to know [why this happened]."

Are Grey's numbers down this year? Might that be their excuse? They had two vacuous babes on "Cashmere Mafia" last season as a dithering on again/off again lesbian and/or bi couple and that show fizzled...but the key word is babes. I think ABC would probably rather cast women who don't look (or act) too much like actual gay women. *shrug* I don't know. But I don't trust the bastards.

Not sure what you mean by this. I don't watch much network tv, but in this case, Brooke Smith's Erica was doing the trick for me.

I mean she's a more believable gay woman than is usually cast to play a lesbian on u.s. tv. She's not a superficial babe type.

Not cast for her looks alone. Not the type of conventionally pretty vapid female that men like to look at when they think of lesbian sex.

Well, I agree with you on that one.

So the mid September reveal to Smith her character was being cut fits will my 6 week timeline...only that timeline kicked in much earlier than I thought. Well, I was having fun for a little bit there.

I do not watch network tv much but if I had to guess, my guess would be revenue is behind it. The advertisers are uncomfortable with gay characters that aren't caricatures (Will & Grace) and we all know how powerful corporate 'muscle' is. Given the economic climate -- ABC caved.

Okay I admit it. I've been lurking around twop :ph43r: (you know I signed up there years ago, cannot for the life of me figure out which alterego I was at the time)...love your lesbiandeathcliche rants abzug and ekny. LOL made me laugh. This whole upcoming is so over the top unnecessary that I wanted to share a couple of my favorite quotes from there...in preparation for tomorrow night, of course.

etc. and thanks to those twop posters I borrowed these from. (and those are all on just one page.)

I can't think of anything original to add myself since it's all for naught apres demain.
