I used to watch GL back in the day and I have to admit, I got a little verklempt seeing Dr Bauer in the previews. Hee. (I watched back when Blake first hooked up with Ross. I stopped when Reva had a clone. And so didn't see any CC years.) I do want Frank to get with the program and then just disappear. I had read a rumor a while back that he might hook up with Blake. When I first read that, I was kinda excited by it - at least it would give Blake some storyline. Now? I don't want Blake stuck with that block of wood. Ah well. |

In love with a prisoner
|
I'm with everyone on Frank being WAY too annoying and being around WAY too long. And speaking of Frank and Olivia's history, can anyone direct me to a clip on YouTube of when they slept together? I've heard they did, I heard they showed it, but I haven't seen it, nor do I know anyone who's seen it, and I am dying of curiosity. Her scenes with Buzz were surprisingly involving and interesting to me, although I thought she completely overpowered him. But, anyway, back to the subject at hand. Although I want Frank to GO AWAY, in this last episode I found Rafe very emotionally moving. I thought they showed him both yearning for his mother, and grappling with visceral disgust at the thought of her in a relationship with a woman. The scenes between Natalia and Rafe made me really sad, for how much each one needs the other, and how far apart they are right now. I really felt for him and his loneliness at the end of the episode (in the masculine world of the baseball field), which was a big contrast to Natalia surrounded with her other (feminine) family. |

The ghost of Larkhall!

As much as I want to strangle Rafe right now, EJ is playing him with longing and sadness when it comes to his mom. I keep remembering what he said right before leaving for the halfway house and holding onto hope that he comes around soon. It's about the 6 minute mark here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JOMF0yCY5Q |

Wow that clip was a blast from the past, with Rafe saying "I'm happy if you're happy." How attitudes change. One thing that struck me was his comment about religion - first that he used to gripe about it *before* and second that what got him through being in prison was Natalia and *her* faith. I remain convinced that what is bugging him has more to do with Natalia apparently rejecting the foremost identifiable aspect of herself to him than it does her being in love with a woman, per se. By the same token, it is Olivia, who, last time Rafe checked in, Natalia did not like, now being the object of her affections that is a source of confusion and distaste more than the lesbian implications. I guess this puts me in the spectulating camp that says that Rafe and Olivia have to do something to bond them to each other and it most certainly will take place while Natalia is absent. Cause Team Otalia has to have a complete family group by the end of the story, if it is to be considered a happy soap ending, imo. Speaking of which:
What - no lesbian softball leagues in Springfield? I thought sure Doris coached a team and has been sizing up Olivia as a recruit. Now that would make the summer more entertaining.

I only identified the baseball field as masculine space because of how much time Rafe has spent playing catch with the older males in Springfield, and Nat and Liv's reaction when Emma said she wanted to play too. But I'm sure in the version of Guiding Light where everything is from the lesbian perspective (why has no one made this video?) Doris Wolf is captain/coach of the first place team in the lesbo league. ![]()
I agree with you on the first half, but not on the second. I mean, yes, before Rafe went into jail, Natalia hated Olivia. But a lot of things happened while Rafe was in jail, and he wasn't ignorant of them. First, his mom got the money from Olivia to chase after him in Europe. This must have come up when she found him there. His mom got a job she really liked from Olivia. She must have talked about this in one of their visits. Olivia showed up at jail more than once with caretaking intentions (after his diabetic attack, and with his prescription when she thought Natalia had forgotten it). So it's hard for me to believe that his views on Olivia remained unchanged from the spring of 2008. I just think it really grosses him out to think of his mom in love with, or having sex with, a woman. He thinks it's wrong, morally/religiously speaking. He doesn't know how it makes sense given his mother's formerly rigid religious beliefs. |

:ph43r: Delurkering notice:ph43r: Can I just say that you all have thoroughly entertained me with a show I don't even watch. Last weekend I a noticed a peak in posting here. After checking out some youtubes, surmising that Otalia hadn't even kissed; I still couldn't say away from my third party observing. Thanks and, please do carry on. Appreciatively, ss |

In defense of us, this show really is worth discussing, as opposed to some others with lesbians. :-) And be careful with YouTube--before you know it, you'll have watched all their scenes, and be as obsessed as the rest of us. |

Hey I meant it as a compliment! And to your defense, the discussion has to be as good, if not better than the show.....it's a time budget function for me...carry on, the discussion does it for me.

This scene has stayed with me. Otalia creates a rollercoaster of emotions for me. One minute I am nervous, nearly in tears and then happy, with a big silly grin on my face. With that I have a question to ask. I was wondering if it was just me or did anyone else view this bit of the "I Choose You " scene the same way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltk_14BVFzc&feature=channel Scene starts at 4:34 mins Last week, Natalia is sitting in Olivia's office. Nat tells Liv she wanted to talk to Liv. They have a wee chat about Rafe and Nat seems quite despondent about the whole state of affairs. Nat says sit, don't stand. Liv sits in her chair with desk between them. She sighs, then clasp her hands together like she is praying that this is not going to be a "bad news" conversation. I felt that Liv was using the desk as a protective barrier. Is it just me who interpreted the desk as a barrier?? |

I know, honey, but there's nothing we can do about it. Not at this late date. We just have to wait and see what happens. It's out of our hands. And, meanwhile, I don't need the extra added angst to make my stomach any more upset than it already is dwelling on it. But if they implode this story and muck it up with something so unnecessary, considering the circumstances, then we should still write, email, whatever and let them all know exactly how we feel about it. It would be such a shame to pull the ultimate soap opera cliche in a story that has been anything but cliche. |

One thing I'll give them credit for is that whenever there's been some spoiler that seemed melodramatic and potentially explosive, they've wound up handling it in a remarkably realistic and measured way. So even this spoiler (which shall remain unnamed and unspoken) could wind up being ok. That said, I'd prefer it not happen, because I've been enjoying the way that the show has introduced obstacles that Liv and Nat have to face together, as a team, rather than obstacles that tear them apart. I'd prefer any future soapy obstacles/drama to be of this same variety. Which, in truth, this spoiler could wind up being, for all we know. In the end, what I'd REALLY like at this point is for them to KISS ALREADY! I mean SERIOUSLY! It's getting ridiculous. Olivia needs to dump Emma with Jane and head over to the FoL, cook some dinner, light some candles, and get things MOOOOOOVING. |

Totally. And that's exactly what CC suggested to the writers. In a perfect world... But this is soapworld. Still, I agree with the first paragraph of your post, and here's hoping they turn yet another soap convention on its head in this much more realistic than most storyline. |
