Yeah, it did all feel a little over the top today, didn't it?

I do not think these were CC's best crying moments. The Natalia moments were off. Within the context of the whole show, her Jeffrey crying it wasn't extreme. The best thing that Jeffery did in dying was bring Olivia back into the group hug at Company.

As for calling from the FoL - this I completely take is a product of nature. You who live in that neck of the woods must how much was raining a couple of months ago. My pal what works in Peapack commented on it. They'd already had numerous scenes in the rain in some for or another. At least it was a dry place to make a call!

On a production note can I just ask, spiked heels in the mud next to a stream?...hey, why not.

My favorite line from the Bill and Lizzie wedding was Doris saying her shoe got caught in the mud.

As an aside, in the 1979 March on Washington we had many a similar moment from the production side - last minute buying of plywood sheeting to use as walkways, which was apparent in the Bill and Lizzie wedding. And thus I date myself.

And you are so right about the Josh set-up.

Do you think there be much of a Josh reveal? I think I will just play it as it lays - he must know intuitively what's going on.

While I thought the picture clutching was a bit over the top, if one is in that sort of dreaming and hoping state, answering the phone that way makes sense.

And it seems I have some web-series-watching to do this weekend. Thanks!

Olivia was in that big group scene at Company? I totally missed her there! Must rewatch.

It was the most horrible month. We were all miserable and depressed and insane. Like, every single person in the NY metro area was a cranky bitch for a month. I don't know how GL filmed as many scenes outside as they did, because it was raining every f*^%ing day.

Another heavy-handed line from Liv:

(to Dinah, re: Ava and Jeffrey)
She just didn't have him for very long, you know? And she loved him so much, and he loved her...

gee, projecting much, Olivia?

Cagey, now having rewatched I have to affirm my enjoyment of Liv's crying in this episode. Other eps have felt more forced to me. This one the crying felt very organic, arising from real emotional anguish. I mean, you can make your throat catch like that if you're just pretending to cry, making tears fall from your eye. Same with the trembling lip when she's on the phone with Ava.

Also, CC looked SO hot in those jeans in today's ep. Smokin'. Particularly when she and Dinah and Shayne walk away from the stream to go to Company.

I know I sound like a broken record but all this constant angst with Olivia is making me nuts. Next week's spoilers look like pure torture. I can't wait  for Natalia's return when I suspect we will get to watch angst with them both right up until the last week when things will be resolved in a way that will be 'hopeful', to quote CC. At this point I'm wondering if the audience will see them living together with Frank and raising the baby, that's how depressed I am about the storyline.

Well refer to me as "Oblivia" then, because I did not even notice. I have my mind on loftier things...yeh...that's right. :innocent

Oh, Mary Martin, even when things look so glum (the terrifying vision of a 3-some with F---k in the middle :eek ) you should have confidence in sunshine, climb ev'ry mountain, be a cock-eyed optimist, and, of course, if you believe in fairies clap your hands :clap and all will be well. Don't dwell. I'm doing that enough for all of us...and it's doing my blood pressure no good at all.

Since I have such an excellent track record, allow me to speculate this: telling Frank that it's his baby is not the first thing on Natalia's agenda. And further - even if, as one would suspect, Olivia is a touch cool to her reappearance, Natalia will not be running to Frank.

The anticipated angst will have to be about re-establishing the trust that was broken when she ran off. This would be WHY she ran off without leaving a message. I'm looking forward to it.

She had jeans on? I wasn't looking down there AT ALL. Nope. I was looking for little duckies in the pond.

I completely agree cagey, 100%. And I'm definitely looking forward to it. As I've been rewatching scenes post-wedding, I'm not enjoying Nat's hot-and-cold. She's been the straight girl all along, changing her mind, pulling back, jumping in, then pulling back again, flirting, yet never actually doing anything. For the writers to really complete the story (and I think they know this, because they wrote Nat a certain way, intentionally), they have to have Nat come back and be committed to her feelings for Olivia. Not just in words but in actions and behavior.

Please. Most of the time I can't take my eyes off her cleavage, so the sexy-jeans look is lost on me. Yes, I am oh so shallow.

Sorry for double-posting, but I forgot about this idea/question which occurred to me last night. I can't remember if it was in this thread, or in some email or other, or in user posts on some article on the web somewhere, but someone was talking about the fact that neither Olivia nor Natalia were very popular characters before this storyline. And it got me thinking how strange it was that you combine two disliked characters and you get a beloved relationship/storyline. Is this common on soaps? Is it because of the two of them together, or the way the writers had them change over the course of the relationship (giving them more likeable traits etc)? Is it b/c the actresses have good chemistry, or is nothing to do with that?

I think it's most likely a combination of everything you've listed, but I'm sure some long-time soap watchers can give us an idea of how often that happens (blue moon-ish?), how often the writers try to redeem characters (a lot, as far as I can tell, especially, unfortunately, rapists), and how often is it successful. Love is transformative.

someone was talking about the fact that neither Olivia nor Natalia were very popular characters before this storyline.

CC in one of her interviews mentioned how Olivia was brought in to be the character that everyone roots against. She went after Josh, as in the beloved Reva and Joshua couple, then moved on to Alan, Phillip, Bill, Buzz, Frank and Jeffrey before the writers promised her a front burner storyline == this is it. How her love for Natalia changes her for the good. Natalia was written in to break up another beloved couple, Gus and Harley. Both of the characters were pretty much despised by a big portion of the audience, even though there were a lot of CC fans out there. Since Crystal has the seniority on the show, and this is her storyline, not Natalia's, it makes sense that poor Nat has to bear the brunt of the question of just how committed she will be to actually living as part of a couple with another woman. All along she's been written as indecisive -- for a reason obviously -- but Jessica and Crystal have such great chemistry and both of the actresses have been so committed to the storyline, I think that is part of the reason the characters became popular and Jessie now has a fanbase.

Hey, I'm subtle, what can I say. I *said* she had to close the door on poor what'shername. Oh, right. Emma. See? All Traumatic.

It's the Extremely Meaningful Moment starting with the below-featured feature sequence.

Well, I'm on a roll then. I got an email from jeanna which was speculative (not spoilerish, though I'm afraid this'll devolve into spoilerland soon enough), & just have to say, I really do not (not not not) wanna have to see Olivia get right with Jesus before she can get laid kissed by reconciled with Nat.

Shall I rephrase?

Nahhh. I didn't think so.

I'd rather see a therapy plot 1000 times over, than have to deal with Olivia praying or some such. But this being Guiding Light, as soon as Jeanna suggested it my blood ran cold: o puhlease, not that.

Fortunately I don't think there's time. Unless they scupper other more potentially interesting plotpoints which they'd never do.

Abzug--totally agree on the straight girl thing, you've brought this up before, or multiple someones have, it's been aired... but it SO bears repeating. I mean, this is a character who's supposed to be all about the strength of her convictions, yeh? But the fact is... straight until proven otherwise. Thus far.

There's no way they're going to do this to Olivia. No way. She's been really clear about her feelings about religion, and they haven't portrayed religion as redemptive as much as they've portrayed love as redemptive. Nat's the one who has to work out her relationship with God. I think it's considered ok that Olivia doesn't have a relationship with God.

I could talk you back up if you like.

I fully expect Olivia to make some sort of *spiritual* journey to get back with Natalia. This is not to imply that she's going to start lighting candles in church but one of the things early on (as expressed to Sister Anne) is Olivia's awe of the strength Natalia derives from her relationship with god.

Since we are fairly certain Nat isn't coming back a card carrying atheist, she's going to still have her personal relationship with god.

More importantly, assuming I recall this correctly, Olivia's issues around religion are really her issues around her mother. If she clears up her feelings about Mom then she won't need to stiff arm jesus.

And, if, as she searches for her soul, she ends up in AA or therapy - that Higher Power is just around the corner. Didn't she pray once before - like when she was dying?

So I'll make another daring prediction: Olivia will come to terms with god before the end of the show. :eek
