Aren't "ShAva" <G> step siblings because he's Reva's son and she's Jeffrey's daughter and they're married? As well as...him being Josh's son who was also once married to Olivia. Yes, incestuous is the word.

And...I'm not going to fault CC too much for the botox treatment...she had a scar on her forehead from surgery because of *gulp* a bite by a brown recluse spider--those things can be deadly as well as causing the skin to break down like the flesh-eating bacteria. Scary to think about. And biting an actress, of all people, on the face. *shudders*

I agree. Olivia's support network is very thin.

It does bring us back to that great scene last fall where Olivia insists to Natalia that they are friends, b/c although she doesn't have many, she watches Dr. Phil, so she knows that she and Nat are friends. Hilarious.

But also brings back the period when Olivia was ill, when she had no one to take care of her (not really, other than Ava) and had to do Alan's bidding to protect Emma from Philip (back when she thought Philip was a psycho kidnapper). That was how she wound up falling for Gus, since Alan wanted her to break up Gus and Nat. So much of Olivia's most dysfunctional behavior has arisen because of her lack of support system, and her ambivalence with the support system(s) she does have (eg Buzz).

I don't fault the surgery she had to correct the scar. But the scar is much higher on her forehead than where botox is having the biggest impact. So that's not why she's having the botox. She's also been having botox or restalin (sp?) or something on her cheeks, and that is just so sad to me. As much as I'm not a fan of Kim Zimmer, I love how natural her face looks, and how much it moves. Now if only she were half the actress CC is.

Yeah, I was surprised at KZ's scenes yesterday... until the end. If she were an actor at all, she would have taken those (admittedly crappy) lines and said them *quietly*. The tete-a-tete betw O & P afterwards felt as much about that, & soap-stylings in general, as the actual memorial: what would it be without This Kind of Thing?

Nothing profound from here on, just thinking aloud.... I am wondering when N will come back, of course; I can't see more than another week of this. I'm relieved & generally pleased that they haven't dragged Olivia off into any number of other dopey storylines, they've just stuck to her material. (Ie whether or not people still consider the pregnancy storyline a kind of derailing of the Otalia s/l, they haven't further derailed it.) And CC is so strong she doesn't need to be acting against anyone in particular, if that's the right way to put it? Anyway, assuming N's return parallels JL's leave, another week should be about right. Be a damn shame if it was longer. But everything else has been played through to the limited extent they seem able or willing to explore these things with Olivia solo: she's spoken to Rafe, Father Ray, Phillip, Blake. Doris. The scenes with Josh. I mean--I might be leaving other characters out, but basically, they've covered everyone she has any substantial dealings with in the town, at this point.

No idea why a trailer (I heard about it--doesn't seem like a big deal to me) suggesting either Edmund or Jeffrey is Back from the Dead would be necess at this point. It's like: uhh... don't they know they've been canceled? Otherwise, I have to assume that's to facilitate wrapping up other storylines I care not about.

Although that would let them bring the Phillip Soap!Disease s/l to the front sort of differently: it'd make P's lingering illness even more center-stage by nullifying effects of The Rapist's (not-sad) Demise. Jeffrey may be gone but really, he gets 1 week: Phillip... that could (arguably should) play out for the rest of the show.

So trying to take all that into account, although I wish they were doing something more with O & Ava (& would love to be wrong), doesn't seem like we'll get anything else, maybe 1 more scene at most. Ava's "SF is home" statement sounded like all the wrap-up we'll get for her (not that I care). And since this show persists in making men the confidants of women-in-trouble, it seems more likely to me at this point that Phillip will continue to be Olivia's go-to guy. They have no flirtage/sexual tension, as with Josh; they have a kid who's still a very active part of the show; and Phillip is in all ways, I gather, totally central to GL's history over the last umpteen years. (And Olivia's obviously.) So once he gets around to dropping the I-am-dying bomb they can both be there for each other. They kinda already are. And then we'd have the Phillip... what's her name, Beth? romance, plus O/N.

She really didn't need to do any of that. And the scar itself didn't detract from her beauty one bit. I hadn't even noticed it until it was pointed out. But then again, I was watching scenes on You Tube. And it's surprising KZ hasn't had something done. Then again, most actresses, on tv, especially on soaps, have to be thinking one thing these days: HDTV.

So I'm watching Oct/Nov 2006: the rape/pregnancy flashbacks.

Can someone of you who have been long time viewers clue me into how is it Jeffery and Ava show up in Springfield in the first place? Blake was almost Mayor of Springfield! This is like hearing great gossip about people you vaguely knew in college.

Those Olivia scenes with her recounting the experience and also trying to explain to Ava were totally off the charts.

Since we are all anti-Botox, there is no point in pointing out how much more facile are her eyebrows, but I keep wondering if it is just different hairstyling or if CC's hairline is receding. Maybe it's too many ponytails - solitasolano!

One of the tenets of soap opera studies is that the males are "sensitive". Those of you who watch more than GL may be able to confirm or deny, but that would suggest it is not GL specific. When one thinks about the origins and target market of soaps it makes sense that the fantasy men are also good listeners.

I keep adding up the available men vs the available women for a Shakespearean comedic ending to the show, as opposed a Shakespearean drama littered with dead bodies.

As far as Nat's return - I've heard first week of August and I've heard second. How specific you want to get ekny before it would be spoilerish?

1) Has anyone tried to 'save' this thread? I have it stopping at July 9, no matter what default I used. I wrote to ILMJNet, but wanted to ask here, too. I think it's some board setting.

2) No more specific than that, please, Cagey. :) I was just speculatin on a hypothesis. As is my wont. One week or two is obvious... basically I was just trying to get the thread moving, there was this Shocking eight-hour gap or so & I was all agog.

Yes. I remarked something similar in my first or second post to this thread. It's the same target group as the people who supposedly read bodice-rippers. I guess that means in their heads they look like Blake. In reality... well. Not so much.

General summary of people's opinions on cosmetic surgery/alteration/improvement. 1) All women are entitled to do whatever the hell they want. 2) We really, really wish they wouldn't. Because attractive women on TV have no need to do anything like that. But it's up to them. But we wish they'd stop.

Howzat?

Finally: my very own fashion tips for CC's next wardrobe person, who presumably will have a budget. This is all from the less-is-more school of mix-n-match.

* No short jackets which button/gather 4 inches down from the alps. Long jackets. These emphasize your lines. Not your rack. We're all aware that god was generous to the woman. No need to make her look like a stuffed sausage.

* Sticking with a single hairstyle for more than 3 days running would be a novelty. Just sayin.

* Less make-up. Repeat: less is more.

* No ghastly color/pattern combos (see: BBQ-of-Doom 'shirt/top/whatever'). If it offendeth god's eyes, it will offend those of your audience.

* Feed the woman's shoe fetish. Throw a few high-end shopping trips into her next contract. (Even though I won't be watching.)

(I'm convinced they're her own: nothing else makes sense anyway, I can't believe actors come to work to put on 'costume' shoes & stand around in them all day.)

Stop me before I type again. Y'all can jump in annnnytime now, otay?

Here is info on Jeffery and his arrival in town:

Jeffery O'Neill

And Ava:

Ava Peralta

I hope that helps!

As for the whole botox thing. Most actors and actresses do it or something like it or have work done. It is what it is. In CC's case, its never much bothered me because I barely notice it. Her face doesn't seem nearly as frozen as many others.

It is such a good thing you are not *political.* You start the movement and we will all follow.

I am still slayed from watching this rape reveal/ retcon stuff. Has anyone else seen it?

Oh sure I could give you the links but you have to wade through lots of other shite to get to the nuggets. And that sounds slightly off.

OK, on to shallow matters: what was up with those sleeves on Olivia's blazer? OFS does NOT wear puffed sleeves!
Ms. Spencer was wearing the same puffy sleeved brown suit as part of the “where did you get those shoes” outfit!!! (05/27/09)

I LOVE the ever changing hairdos!!!! I’ve mentioned this before. The ever changing hairdos feel to be a function of two things a) the emotional volatility of the character, and b ) an indication of Olivia’s headlining status on the show. I find the ever changing looks, styles, roots, and color thoroughly enjoyable, if not slightly distracting, but only from a continuity point of view. (Shoot no worst for continuity than several feet of snow falling in the duration of the non-wedding.) Since soap opera time frame is a challenge to figure, I'll go with it. Bottom line, the ever changing look of Olivia in no way dampens my enjoyment or appreciation of the character or actress who plays her. What will the next look be I wonder? :silly

Less make-up
ITA. Not thrilled about last weeks heavy eye blacking. Although, like the hairdos, I like how they mix it up. Check again the bbq, that makeup was definitely, less is more.

Anticipating Natalia’s return makes me think about the pregnancy. I think this will consume s/l time. There will probably be the ”why didn’t you tell me” bit (both Olivia and, yes I’m sorry to say, Frank), that seems like a no brainer. Because I too have been “having fun on a Friday night” catching up on back episodes, I found 3 specific incidences of Olivia being gaga over babies. I’m saying this out loud to myself so I will be prepared for the inevitable turn that Olivia will be fine with the situation and her growing family. Olivia was gaga over Little Max; came into Company at sometime when Natalia was watching either little Henry or Colin (sorry lazy at the moment to go back and see which epi) and fawned over him, she was in a low mood; and lastly, Olivia says ‘little babies are so cute”, or something to that effect, when Natalia is making her look at the baby shower photos and then shows Olivia her favorite from the batch, the one where she tells Olivia she is so beautiful which Nat took. Then, of course, Olivia is also great with her daughter, Emma. Olivia the character is fine with babies.

molsongrrrl, thanks for the links. I'll be cking out the Ava backstory for sure.

I've watched that whole story/retcon and that's one reason this week just irritated me to no end. Jeffery was not a saint nor a particularly nice guy. I wish the writers would have at least had Olivia maybe be a bit ambivalent about his death given their complex history.

And really - he raped Cassie (Reva's sister) too. As someone on TWoP pointed out - too bad Beth wasn't at the funeral. She could have mentioned him having sex with her on the floor of a chinese restaurant and then dumping her. Ah good times - but hey Jeffery was a hero! A hero dammit!

A hero and a Good Man. And we're all *very* sad about it. Geez, get on the bus, already.

My favorite thing about that--well, there are many. But I *love* Buzz telling Olivia she has to Learn to Forgive her rapist. Funny, *I* thought women should learn to castrate them then chuck their severed bits into the garbage disposal.

But Jeffrey was a Good Man. Murderers are good men too, btw. As Cagey pointed out. I am not schizophrenic: the program however defies diagnosis. Except as the worst kind of reactionary swill, when we go down this road. So I cannot or I have the whole problem with the ruptured blood vessels. Messy. And the screaming seems to irritate the neighbors. Dunno what's up with that.
