In love with a prisoner

The part at the end of this clip, where Olivia tells Emma she's dying, actually moved me to tears. Like, tears coming out of my eyes right now as I write this. It was the whole bit about parents never leaving you, but always being in your heart with you, that got me. Holy crap. As much as I rag on this soap opera stuff, occasionally they really do just hit you where you live. And in this scene in particular, it was the kind of human touches, like Olivia sitting in the tiny kid's chair having a tea party. Something about the emotional symbolism of the contrast in scale, like Emma exists in this tiny kid-sized world, and Olivia is dying which is a very adult-sized thing to be dealing with, and how do you bridge that gap? How do you bring the adult-sized thing down to the kid-sized scale, how does a mother tell her daughter she is going to die? Beautiful. ETA: Oh, wait, and the tea party thing plays into that too, because it's this classic example of a kid playing at an adult activity. Tiny bits of genius sprinkled throughout the dreck, I tell ya. |

He raped Cassie? Oh now I am very upset about something I have never seen. In 2006 thought Josh was about to marry Cassie - when was the rape - and thank you for the carry-over about Beth on the floor with the sushi. So his virtues amount to being a justice upholding political dick in Springfield and admitting his paternity of Ava? |

Cassie was married to Prince Richard from the great island country San Cristobel - where Olivia is from. Jeffery was his stand in look a like. And he admitted to sleeping with Cassie while she thought he was Richard. If not rape (which actually I think it is - she wouldn't have slept with him willingly had she known who he was) - then certainly sexual assault. And gross. Hee. |

One thing leads to another and suddenly I'm mucking about in early 2006 - back when Olivia was dating Frank but falling for Buzz. I still haven't stumbled upon Olivia and Frank actually in bed (shield my eyes) but I did find the full version of her night with Buzz. That was way more fun - and it looked like she was having way more fun, then any of the more celebrated Olivia Sex Goddess scenes I've seen. Selling Cross Creek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Ys5x9DUsQ&NR=1 is pure Olivia-tainment. But what is especially interesting is Frank's reaction at the end of the scene and then in a subsequent episode when Buzz and Olivia admit to their one night stand. I've always been fairly neutral about Frank. Nice guy, not too bright, but Olivia likes him, so I took all the Good Man's in stride. But when he finds out about Olivia and Buzz, well, he could have been finding out about Olivia and Natalia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX6zVPgui_U&feature=related Some eerie parallels: Buzz tutored Frank in how to win Olivia's affections (Stuffed pizza!). Frank has plans to take Olivia away for a weekend. In an earlier episode, Olivia confides to baby Emma that while Frank is not *exactly* what she was looking for to fill out the Plan for Happiness, he was - essentially - a good man and at this point in her life, he would do. Huh, now that I think about *that* it bothers me even more that she thought he would *do* for Natalia. Frank has a very stereotyped and off notion of who Olivia is. And clearly, Buzz and Olivia maintain if not deepen their affection for each other the whole time she is dating Frank. Frank's rage mirrors what comes out over Natalia three years later (about the 6 min mark). Olivia looks like so much roadkill while the Cooper males battle over dominance. This could go some distance in explaining why Buzz, affectionate as he is towards Olivia, and Frank assume that the whole affair with Natalia is Olivia's fault. I'm also wondering about how carefully Olivia feels she must tread around both of them. Like she dare not say anything to them that will provoke that Greek wrath to rain down upon her. Plus, come 2007, the Buzz/Olivia wedding gets called off because of Our Favorite Rapist kissing Olivia. I believe he was drunk at the time. Molsongrrrl - was he by chance drunk when taking Beth on the restaurant floor. (Having cleaned restaurants, this image is particularly icky for me). Have not seen the actual footage as yet.
Thanks for the explanation. If I have my factoids right, it's all about the actor and once they killed Richard and put his heart in Dr. Rick, the writers needed to come up with Jeffrey to bring the actor back onto the show? Did Reva ever actually marry Richard? Just wondering if sisterly sharing of husbands is like father/son sharing of wives? Back to the vaults - |

I believe the Stone Creek episode comes after Frank finds out about Olivia and Buzz. That's what Olivia and Buzz are talking about, in terms of Frank and Buzz being in a fight. The other thing I like about the Buzz-Olivia relationship is he was sort of a test run for her, in terms of loving someone and being loved, where she was the first choice, and where he really saw the good side of her. She of course couldn't live up to his expectations, and sabotaged the relationship because of her inner conflict about that. But I think she never could have loved Natalia the way she does if she hadn't learned about love from Buzz. I do think Olivia bears some Cooper-related guilt, but more for Frank than Buzz. I feel like Olivia and Buzz came to an understanding when she was very ill right before her heart transplant, where he forgave her and she forgave herself. |

Thanks, you're right about the time sequence.
Interesting again. I like the way your mind works. There is a transition going on - and now, dammit, I may have to watch into 2005 and see what the fuck was going on with her and Bill. That looks like hip boots levels of I don't wanna watch it. Besides all the kissing clips. Yes, double standard involved. But Buzz as a dry run? Not completely there. Buzz was loving someone without bringing all the baggage along. Otalia is completely about the baggage. |

ekny, molsongrrrl posted 3 links several pages back the the March episodes. http://z4.invisionfree.com/Nikki_and_Helen...pic=2026&st=420 That starts with the Gus accident...start a bit earlier if you want to see Natalia lock Olivia in the bathroom so she won't mess up the N/G wedding, but then she misses a chance to get a heart because she can't be found. Start after these three if you want to watch a cranky and depressed makeupless Olivia wasting away in the hospital. All good stuff. |

Thanks guys! I've seen the locked-in-the-bathroom stuff, I think when I started looking at clips 3 months ago not a lot from early 2008 was out there. I will leave it to the brave Cagey to face 2005/6, however. Although I might have to look at those damn Jeffrey clips. And the Buzz stuff. Sigh. IhavealifeIDOhavealifeyesIdoIhaveone. Somewhere. |

cagey, thanks for the links. Just finished watching 11-29-06 parts 1-6 Olivia and Jeffry reliving the fateful not so sweet 16 night back in San Crisabol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Fcfwjj0dM
What does retcon stand for? I'm going to miss Olivia Freakin Spencer not matter how this all turns out. Oh, ekny, glad you can say you have a life because I definitely do not. Oh and I like Olivia's hair like that. |

Totally. Which in the end is part of why she didn't allow it to work. Too uninteresting. The other big difference between Buzz/Olivia and Nat/Olivia is that Buzz accepted her even when she was a cruel, crazy freak, and Natalia doesn't accept Olivia like that. Which is part of what Olivia loves about Nat, the fact that Nat forces/inspires her to be a better person, while still accepting the fact that she has a pretty dark side. I'm also one of those people who thinks Olivia is an out and out Lesbian, and that's the reason her relationships with men have been so based in manipulation and transaction: because she didn't have the ability to love them truly, the way she can love a woman. So that's a big difference too. |

Abzug, it's very early so forgive me for sounding dull-witted but: there's some raging debate about whether Olivia's always been a dyke or not? I don't know why this amuses me but... it kinda does. Wherefore the specifics?
