I don't recall to whom they were attributed to on Twop, but they are a variant of the American Tall Tale, Chuck Norris Fact, division. Course, one Olivia Spencer stare would turn Churck Norris to stone. Contrary to popular belief, there is indeed enough Olivia Spencer to go around |

I went back to check on that blog with the intelligent May posting about Natalia: there have been a few entries since. She also has links to the full-length episodes in some cases, like Reva's take on the kind of woman Olivia is in August, 2007, which I'd have been mildly interested to see, but not enough to rewatch the whole ep. She also seems to reference this: "One could hear the wonder in her voice when she said that Natalia fought for her because she wanted to, only because she wanted to, and that was a new thing for Olivia. Nobody fought for her because of her." from 10.04.07, which is news to me. Did she means 2008? Links?? If anyone finds other links on YT that are shorter, please post here! Thanks. (Meanwhile, I am trying not to notice the traffic in the spoiler-thread, which is telling in & of itself. La, lala. ) --eknyhttp://the9rasacolors.wordpress.com/2009/0...equel-part-two/ Her take on the rape retcon has a few Hmm moments: "In her mind, if she could be convinced that Jeffrey was really a better person (apparently, by being in a successful intimate relationship with her) than the man who had raped her, then she could believe that she was a better person than the girl who was responsible for her mother’s death." She also makes an incredibly interesting observation around (I assume) the retcon. I think it credits the soap w/a lot more intelligence than it deserves, but if it makes sense... shrug--use it, I guess. "She has been struggling with guilt and disillusionment for a long time, long before Gus entered into the picture, and it was the reason why she could not commit to Buzz but instead went down the dark road of seeking an antidote from the very person who had poisoned her (cue an Achilles and Telephus myth)." http://the9rasacolors.wordpress.com/2009/0...strange-capers/ Also, her Nightmare Endgame Scenario is funny as hell: "I don’t know why I love Otalia so much, but I do. The only way I’d probably give up on the storyline is if carrying Frank’s baby de-lesbianizes Natalia; she returns and asks Frank to marry her; this becomes the final straw that breaks Olivia’s volatile sanity and she picks up that gun and shoots Frank in what would be the surprise death on the show; Natalia has to leave town to escape the crazy lesbian (stereotype), and she’s aided by the sudden appearance of dead!Gus who wasn’t really dead but was pretending to be dead, because that’s what Springfield residents do in their free time." |

Great scene. I hadn't watched that in a long time, but wow, CC rocked it. And this whole episode was awesome. What a good stretch of writing this was. And Olivia has been wiping food of Natalia's face for quite a while, hasn't she? E, don't worry about the spoiler thread. You're happier for not being in it. Too many ups and downs with rumors galore, and who knows what will ultimately pan out. Stay unspoiled. I admire your willpower. Oh, and thanks for those links. She's a good writer, and very thoughtful about character psychology. |

Good one traveler. Myself I went off to 2008 following your inclination ekny. I randomly picked 10/28/08 and viola....more great episodes...meanwhile forty minutes later I'm back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO6sOx2iLrg Olivia is in the hospital, she had the heart arrest (I seem to always watch episodes in reverse order, as I recommend 10/21/08 after this one). Olivia pleads with Natalia to help her. "I hate asking for help" a great moment. Infact, going backwards into earlier October 2008 episodes I'm struck by how much Olivia is asking for help and thanking those who do in genuine gratitude. Olivia definitely humbles herself, admitting (at least to herself) that she does need help. They all seem to be at this point. Here's another one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lbAC-PeU5I&feature=related ekny, I appreciate the blog link. I needed something to read today while I "listened" endlessly at work comparing conformed old to new versions of my project. I can read while I do so and will. Spoilers, smoliers....my upcoming work schedule is going to send me to the black hole of a dub stage the last 6 weeks of the show so spoilage doubles my fun now, but it's all illusion ...the turn of a phrase of spoils seldom resembles what ends up on the scene....no matter what I'll still have October 2008 and 2/4/09 to watch. I just remembered. I've wanted to mention this bit for a while. During Olivia's rant to Doris....I LOVE when Doris says (starts around 1:10) it's not personal, that she knows plenty of lesbian couples and O protests, "we are not lesbians. We're not a couple!"...then Doris calmly picks up Emma's drawing entitled 'my two mommies" and says, "Well maybe you should explain that...to your daughter." LOL. Love the writing here, because isn't that what Doris' theme is all about....how she's never been able to explain to her daughter that she is lesbian. Great bit that GL revisits more than once in episodes after this one. Enjoy. |

Nice point about the Doris Theme, Solitasolano. I have to admit I have rewatched much, I'm not that into it, I guess--there's just too much tedious stuff to get through, at least that's how I remember it in my head. The pacing really did drive me nuts right from the start: Let's Have a Meaningful Talk! No--Wait! My Phone is Ringing! Again!I've been saying for weeks to people: I literally cannot WAIT to go back to Bad Girls when this is all over & flush my head out & watch some real media, for a change. --ek |

Good point with the correlation between Olivia's binges and her security level with Natalia. I am of the opinion that she has to quit before Natalia gets back. Natalia has saved her once already, to do so again, while it might be realistic, would not bode well for their future relationship. I don't have any desire for Olivia to meet up with Billy at an AA meeting, but I am kinda looking for her to discuss it with someone. And if, as I guess we are all expecting, she is cool to Natalia when the gal does finally show up again, the coolness coming from her absorption in her internal issues makes more sense than her being pissed off over the leaving without saying good bye. At this point Olivia has figured out that Natalia was seriously spooked by something that was big enough to make her bolt. I can't see her holding a grudge after however many days, weeks, months in soap time it is until she returns. |

I like your theory, cagey. And perhaps this is the storyline CC said she always wanted to tell, one where Olivia addresses her drinking problem. We've been puzzling over that since the BPD podcast interview, so this could be the answer, since she said they were doing an abbreviated version of the story, and this would be abbreviated, if Liv was on her way to dealing with her drinking by the time Nat comes back. And as an explanation for why Liv is distant from Nat, it works. |

While I always like me some Olivia, as per cagey's and abzug's binges and drinking comments, this other mindschmootz vid is currently more to the point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzC4wiyhOS0&feature=channel Plus with pregnant Nat, no drinking and alcohol comsumption at the farmhouse in the near future is a good idea. |

I said SIT IN THAT CHAIR
|
After the gloom n' doom descended (and I have been staying out of all Spoiler threads) particularly over the pregnancy (I did have one still in denial friend email me when pics were taken during their recent outside shoot overjoyed at the fact, she thought, that the humongous purse was gone and, hopefully, therefore also any Frankenspawn) I was wondering if anyone has taken solace in the fact, and in the face of the patriarchist reading of this soap by some, that both Natalia and Olivia, though married and eventually married, to the fathers of their children have children, both Rafe and Emma, bearing their maternal names? Rafe Rivera and Emma Spencer. Does this bode well for the continuance of a matriarchal line with these two? And, then, reading the fanfic the other day, I was further heartened to realize that in the Ruth/Naomi bible passage that Nat quoted at the wedding the culmination is that “Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse. The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, 'A son has been born to Naomi!'" (Ruth 4:17) The interpretation being that Ruth, the younger woman, has the child, but god has clearly given the baby to both Ruth and Naomi and the child is seen as also being the other woman's... Food for thought. |
