In love with a prisoner
Long Echoing Hallway Eyes: a tribute to Our Very Quiet Thread by way of Laurie Anderson.

Walks into empty room. Cue echoing footsteps. Sound of rack-lights being turned on. "Youhoo!" Pauses. "Anybody ho-ome?"

---
from 'Walk the Dog':

Well I went to the movies, and I saw a dog 30 feet high.
And this dog was made entirely of light.
And he filled up the whole screen.
And his eyes were long hallways.
He had those long, echoing hallway eyes.
---

Cue echoing footsteps. Lights being shut down.

E, I think we're all waiting for this coming week's episodes, and then perhaps there will be more fodder for discussion. Or, I hope there will be. Otherwise I'm starting my Bad Girls rewatch EARLY.

What a totally charming reply! I'm just grinning. Yeah, I know everyone's just like, trying to find Things to Do for the weekend & not-look at their clocks. Just wanted to yell hall-oo-oo-ooh! and see if anyone halloahed back, really. But thanks, I feel way better now. :)

hey! have you seen Psychoville? What is the show-tune montage/tribute towards the end of Episode 4, if so, please?! :D

Last thing out of Olivia's mouth today...

"I was just kind of hopin'...that maybe.....that you were ready to come home."

Said to Jellybean over the phone, aimed at you know who....guess who we'll see next because for some reason we'll probably never know, Natalia is ready to come home very soon.

Quoting myself...still holds...and if true....the hallways won't be so quiet next week.

It's doesn't matter so much now, always struck me how few of the folks of SF even noticed Natalia was MIA let alone commented on her absence.

Here's my list of those who do know or comment. Did I miss anyone?
Blake and Father Fake enable the runaway. Frank finds out when Olivia goes to the police station to report her as missing. Olivia tells Philip when she asks his help being too distraught to drive home. Doris, of course. Emma says she misses Natalia, too. Rafe figures it out off camera. Remy is told when Olivia trys to track down Natalia in Chicago. Ashlee talks with Rafe about his mom being gone. Olivia tells Ava at Jeffrey's memorial. Marina seems to know...Olivia tries to tell Josh when he bails her out in Chicago...but he never seems to want to know her real business. Anyone else?
Most of the Lewis/Spaulding axis of SF save Philip aren't involved. Is this for a reason?

If that doesn't interest you, brush up on the past Olivia/Natalia relationship triangle. This one is more fun than the one I'm imagine to come.

Enjoy.

This makes me think there is NO WAY I can watch Days of Our Lives, no matter how much I like Crystal Chappell. These soapy storylines hold no interest for me, unless they are about women falling in love with each other.

JL is skinny skinny isn't she? I like her so much better with the extra weight. She's much prettier.

Well now that CC's hubby has been added to the roster of Days once again as well...one can only wonder if some mad casting director isn't considering going after JL and doing a triangle story once again...

:ph43r:

(Sorry, this was a presentation of overactive imagination theater...we now return you to your regular programming.)

That is the problem, isn't it? Without the possibility of two women in love, you just can't get past the paternalism, sexism, patriotism, provincialism and obsessive individualism to give a rat's ass about the characters.

It's all the more repellent in that Carly isn't particularly known to be a bitch, so what's the fun in watching CC is she isn't going to go off on a good rant?

It reminds me of people reappearing in the elevator at work after a period of absence. You don't want to say: "been on vacation" for fear they will reply "no, had triple bypass surgery" -- given that soaps love to have everyone in town comment on events as they unfold, how *are* these conversations going to begin?

"Did you hear Natalia back - and she's pregnant?" "Really, I didn't know she'd left?"

"Did you hear Natalia is having Frank's baby?" "Really, I thought she left him at the altar?"

"Did you hear Natalia was pregnant?" "Is that what she left town to do?"

ETA: Jeanna: all depends on how you work that triangle ;)

It's about Guiding Light in general, more than it is about Otalia specifically, but it's from a queer point of view and quotes Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, so I figured some folks here would appreciate it:

The Beacon Part 1: The Moral Force of Soap Opera

Interestingly, this was the first time I noticed that the name of Olivia's hotel is titurly (is that a word? Of or related to the title?) thematic, since a beacon is also a guiding light, isn't it? Kinda like when someone pointed out the name Larkhall was connected with Romeo & Juliet, and the whole 'jailbirds' theme/imagery of S1. If it was a snake it would have bit me.

The Beacon Part 1

You mean if it was any closer it would bite me? Consider me bitten, plus my head is spinning since I had to be hit over the head with the obvious myself...

Will read soon...goodie.

Video time...

Meanwhile, I still can't figure out why Olivia hasn't managed to come out to Josh...He has implicated more than once that she is hooked up, 3 times that I can recall off the top of my head; 1) pool game, "You girls are solid"; 2) meetup in bar early on, "I heard you were seeing someone; and 3) don't touch my muffin episode, "you always have a project" ie a love interest. Then he won't let her explain why she was hung up in Chicago; "It was a good explanation." He said he had some scenarios in his head. As a new GL viewer, I don't have good perspective on the details of the history of all these relationships, but I noticed that in the early on (FEB) bar scene, Olivia points out reasons why their marriage split up which included Josh's love for Reva...
and still is....In terms of parallell story telling and writing you all talk about, I'm could see where in the next couple of weeks if the Josh/Olivia thing continues (because she still hasn't told her "friend") that turn about will be fair play and where earlier it was Josh's heart after someone else, the opposite will be the case if Olivia ever comes out to him about Natalia....(sorry for the run on sentences. I'm not a good writer to begin with, plus today the AC isn't on in the building here at work...and I'm dying...lack of oxygen for sure, not to mention the heat...dying.)

Simple equation for marriage and divorce Then go back and watch to whole thing for your Olivia Spencer fix for the day, with a smattering of the CT with baby.

Enjoy.

I am so open to misinterpretation that I just heard part of that exchange as Olivia saying "to me it's like having syphillis and don't pretend you haven't had it." :o

My old time GL watcher colleague says that Josh is pretty dense and is known for always making the wrong choice, so perhaps his apparent inability to pick up on what some of the other less informed folks of Springfield (say Christina from months ago) figured out. He does have some self interest involved.

Thank you for the *friend* comment solitasolano. <smirk> <growl> He is just a *friend*. Really he is. Maybe with benefits.

If we cared at all about Josh I guess the question is not so much about how many more days will he be on call as Olivia's toy but if he gets any kind of satisfactory ending. Maybe he can go off the Fr. Ray and study scripture. I don't believe there are enough alive women in Springfield to marry off all of the men. Buzz gets a round with the ghost of his wife; Cyrus gets Mel; we continue to presume Blake goes with Frank -- Ah, Josh and Matt? Doris and the waiter at Towers?

Thanks for the link, Abzug (I think! :D talk about unreadable academese--and what the hell does she feed her pet ego, anyway? "Eve Sedgwick [...] whose writing style is closest to mine" --golly, that's special, nearly laughed myself sick.) The good part is it had a link to this blog

http://1000worlds.wordpress.com/

which has a slew of clearly-written entries on GL by blogger Patrick Erwin--I've seen no spoilers yet, either. Depending how much time one wants to kill on this very, very warm evening.

From Why Brian Frons is SO Not on My Christmas list:
http://1000worlds.wordpress.com/2009/08/15...rons/#more-1649

"In my eyes, the problem is that daytime, and Frons, are still adhering to the old 1950s broadcasting standards. They’re pitching a message at a mainstream that’s no longer there, while ignoring the niche audiences (soap lovers, gays and lesbians, and people of color) who provide 90% of the soap viewing audience right now.

They’re looking solely at 18-49 women as the only viable market, because their 1970s era marketing studies showed that young women were most likely to change brands because of a marketing message. Meanwhile, they’re almost completely ignored new marketing methods, new messages, new media and new ideas. They forget that, for example, gay and lesbian consumers are MUCH more likely to be “early adopters” of new products and trends."

One of the links--abt CC, can't recall now--has an interview about Venice, haven't watched yet but assume it's on YT so maybe most people have already seen it.

Especially when it comes to the rheumatoid arthritis meds. I'm sure those younguns will be snarfing that stuff right up.
Well that and all the laundry and spot remover products... :silly
For one short week when I actually watched the show broadcast 2-3 pm PST...I saw ads for all sorts of things I'd never buy...what's wrong with me. LOL

Ep was up on YouTube REALLY early today. :party

Last week when I read the spoilers, I was so angry at Nat, for being naive, for putting Olivia through hell, for not recognizing the repercussions of that. And strangely, although today's episode showed exactly that, I was less annoyed. I think I hated her simply for her absence, and now that she's back, my rage has dissipated. It was interesting to me that they didn't reveal what Nat had decided, as if that's something that might surprise viewers, and should only be revealed in a climactic moment.

The theme seemed to be friendship, I think, with that whole scene with Josh and Olivia at the beginning, and then Father Ray working on his sermon as Natalia walked down the aisle at church (I'm sure that hint of wedding imagery was no accident--now Natalia knows what she wants, she can walk down that aisle with confidence).

It's annoying they had Natalia seek out Blake and Father Ray first, but in a way it plays into the friendship theme, because both Olivia and Natalia needed to get grounded in their friend relationships before they could venture out to find eachother, emotionally-speaking.

And then the near-miss at the Beacon, of course, wonderfully symbolic of where these two are at, emotionally. Ships passing in the night, Natalia arriving just when Olivia has finally gotten her emotions together and started moving on. But good that Natalia is chasing down Olivia now.

I was thinking about why Natalia might assume Olivia would take her back with open arms, and I realized that Natalia might have internalized that "You are so worth waiting for" statement from Olivia more than she should have. I think she really believed that Olivia wouldn't hate her for the abandonment, that Olivia would understand almost unquestioningly. Weird.

Send me a link! I read just the first line of your post with my hand up to the screen in case it discussed today's ep, it's going to take me hours to get it cached using dial-up as it is. For the love of god, woman, have a heart.
