Dear Solitasolano,

Is there any way you can take the scene from today and tone down the background NOISE? That was...unbelievable. Why the hell they couldn't take that indoors is just...crazy.

In love with a prisoner
I have tried everything to get downloadhelper to recognize Mp4s, but even with the upgrade that was supposed to bypass the new changes on Youtube, it will not. So I'm getting super crap-quality vids, on top of the sound issue Jeanna mentioned.... If ANYone has a better solution, please will you post here or let me know???

Am very confused: is today's clip just that one, 6-minute thing that feels like it starts in the middle of nowhere, with Olivia walking out to some table? Should I just... watch that? O help please.

This was filmed on a rooftop. But um: why would Olivia BE on a rooftop in the first place. W. t. f.

And yes, this is the worst-recorded scene in terms of sound I have ever had the misfortune to not-hear. As in: ever. Construction noises; traffic noises; AND ambient noise from a rooftop fan or vent of some sort. Air-conditioner. Disaster idea. I swear there are college interns who could have handled this cluster of audio problems better.

Not posting any more abt today bec my ire with today's ep is so complete & thoroughgoing I simply can't trust myself to speak in public. --ek

Jeanna, Professional handicap...I had to force myself to keep watching...can you believe the horn honk over "sit down"....the traffic levels takes you right away from what is being said not to mention the jack hammer...of course, some might argue that not much of anything IS being said between the two so what's the diff?...I didn't expect the 'I hurt you"...thought Natalia would never figure that out...Still need the pregnant convo between the two...that is foremost in Olivia's mind.

"some man's baby." At least I got a small chuckle out of the patheticness (doubt that's a word) of the situation this pregnancy thing has wroth.

Anvil dialog #1...."M&M are breaking up....It came out of nowhere." "I thought they were happy." Project much.
Anvil dialog #2..."Are you still in love with her?" "I've never loved anyone like this." "Of course, it doesn't make it any easier knowing what to do." Oh yeah, (sardonic tone of voice), what is Olivia gonna do?

Not much happening is there? Will most likely watch the whole show hours from now after work..

If you go directly to oootaliaaa channel the sound is a tad better.

ekny I feel your pain around this episode. Outside of context the Otalia clips are extremely peculiar. But I think we are continuing along the same path we have been.

In case you never found a clip with this - the episode opens with Olivia picking on envelope in her office, the contents of which is a message: Come up to the roof. Very important.

Rooftop breakfast that Natalia clearly meant for two, with a walk later. Sure looks to me like she was trying engage Olivia in the fine art of Talking. Olivia shoots her down; Natalia says - cool I'll keep trying. I don't think Natalia is blindly trying to bulldoze Olivia; she is trying to engage her. It is Olivia who does not want to enter into a conversation.

As usual today's message was the wonder of finding a great love and the honor of experiencing that love.

As a subtext, we can discuss all the ways soap characters then go out of their way to sabotage that love. Blake's comment about growing up watching the tumultuous Great Love of Holly and Roger spoke volumes.

Olivia putting her own spin on her tumult: Nat came back pregnant by some man. No mention that Nat came back to be with her. There's that damn baby again messing with Liv's mind. The look of solidarity when Holly said she'd learned when it was time to walk away.

Holly being the prototype for the tragic heroine who apparently now lives alone, travels, is very busy but not in love. Olivia should take note.

The other thing that was going on today, the real point of the episode, was Mallet's departure from Springfield. It was truly weird - long chat with Henry, not even a goodbye Kiss (!) to the love of his life Marina - and he's off to join the Agency in Germany. Actor was leaving the show early, so out he goes. Some might speculate that Shayne will now move in with Marina, but I got the feeling this was going to be yet another Special Family of Love for the Child without the traditional connections. Frank's going to be up to his knees in ankle-biters.

Leaving shortly to start up S2 of bad girls with my little viewing party. They resisted for months after finishing S1, but now that summer is ending, they came crawling back. Like we knew they would. ;)

The clips I've seen all have Olivia calling out to someone--her assistant--but are all cut off before the end. Not like it matters. But is there a full sentence there? Sloppy edit. "Hey! What'd--?"

Huh?

-----------

Not understanding where everyone went. We all got mute simultaneously? Hm.

I am reminded of the immortal words of Captain Beefheart: the dust blows forwards and the dust blows back.

-----------COMMERCIAL BREAK-----------

Once upon a time, in a faraway land we generally consider less enlightened, and perhaps rightly so (America, 1940s), there was a comic strip, penned by a man (Milton Caniff [Terry & the Pirates]), on behalf of the US Army. Caniff donated his services for the war effort & wound up doing a long-running strip for Stars & Stripes. It was propaganda, which is called boosting morale if you're the Good Guys. The strip featured a good-time gal, a serviceman's pin-up, named Miss Lace. Miss Lace was very, very good to servicemen who loved their country.

And servicewomen.

What she did not like, our Miss L., were officers. It was very smart propaganda, and thoroughly populist.

The strip below, completely unknown to anyone who is not a lesbian, comic afficionado, or fan of gay history, and rather well-known especially if you are any combination of the aforementioned categories, was penned in 1944.

As opposed to the soap opera we are watching. Which was filmed in 2009.

(The strip was censored, but a few subtler ones did slip through. It's radical on so many fronts--but most of all for its matter-of-factness--I'll just let you enjoy it, if you've never seen it before.)

But I can't help feel like what in god's name is wrong with this picture, when we can't expect, as matter of course, something this casual 65 years later.

Speaking of which, I admit I got a kick out of the "Shut it Dockley" moment between Frank and Olivia.

All quiet...what's there to talk about....story is adrift with no movement forward or back. Don't you agree? Notalia today.

I actually do have work to do, you know. <sigh>

Anyway--I'm not going to watch many of these--there are hundreds & I don't have the time--but generally this is some of the most low-key, culturally savvy commentary I've seen on YouTube. She's got good politics, is probably straight but doesn't come off that way, and is even funny, on a fairly regular basis. At age 22, with no technical back-up, far as I can see... that's some accomplishment.

What am I doing posting this here?

I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one behind the curve on this chick. Furthermore... the second link here is more politically effective, in 2 minutes, than the last 2 months of youknowwhat.

That's right. And *six* minutes of this stuff left me better-entertained and frankly, in a better mood than Anything Else I watched this week, for damn sure.

From today: Cyrus is Cooperish! He's the son of Jenna, who was shipped off to Australia when she was 16 because she was pregnant. He's coming back from Peapack Australia to become Frank's Little Brother.

Is there a theme here?

Got to ask why they spent a few weeks to get to that point, but, hey, I don't live in Springfield. I was only passing through.

Spaulding/Lewis are in the act of creating a baby. We got 2 boys already. I'm betting, cause I am that much a fool, on a female Rivera-Spencer. Any takers?

I could certainly go on in my inimitable fashion and Count the Ways in which today's episode sucked ass, but will confine myself to a Wholesome, Platitudinous Observation about the True Goal of this story:

Olivia has to forgive Natalia. Period. End of. That's all they wrote, folks. That's endgame for Olivia's redemption arc. If she doesn't, she loses a chance at her great big love. If she does, she learns a Very Important Lesson about Love.

I will further place a bet that the way this will happen will involve Olivia, once again, apologizing to Natalia.
