I don't see the problem with a Matt date. Yes, he's completely not at Olivia's level. But that's the point. She's trying to move on, and it's completely obvious to everyone (including her) that this is not the way to move on, and in fact she shouldn't be moving on at all. Would you prefer something more akin to Helen and Thomas? I wouldn't, even if we had longer before the end. We don't need to see Olivia choose Natalia over the perfect man like the writers of BG wanted to show Helen doing. We need to see her find a way to trust Natalia again, and for Natalia to earn that trust. But since she's not ready to do that, she's got to go through the motions of getting on with her life, and Matt is the perfect guy with whom to go through the motions, since he's completely non-threatening to the Otalia relationship, and everyone knows it.

At least it became an in joke to Ellen DeG and Vanessa Williams (!) of all people. Oh yeah, it's the Daytime Emmys.

Matt and Josh are the only 2 available men left in Springfield. Matt is in a sad place because the Love of Life, Vanessa, is marrying Billy any day now. I agree that he is non-threatening but for this encounter to be anything more or less than an opportunity to have another round of Great Loves We Have Known would be a horrible abasement of all involved.

A comparison to Thomas? Interesting, but not the issue I think for Olivia. She doesn't have an issue with loving a woman turning upside down all her plans for life; she has an issue with a woman (or anyone) anyone into her life.

Fairly spoilery if CC's attitude is any indication: she sounds totally exasperated.

Big shock -- not. The writing was on the wall with this one in May when CC said on the podcast that she was going to talk to her Executive Producer about a kiss -- the majority of the episodes before Jessica left on maternity leave had been shot -- but many of us were too invested in the story at that point to see the forest for the trees.

The thing about that podcast interview was that CC indicated there was a meeting about the first kiss, which implied there would be one, and that there was a love scene planned. I think it was the fact that she said there was a love scene planned that made listeners feel optimistic, even when finding out that there wouldn't be a kiss up until Rafe finding out. If I recall correctly, at that point they had filmed everything but the "I'm done waiting" week, and the Nat-finds-out-she's-pregnant week, so there was still hope that there could have been a kiss prior to JL's maternity leave. So

I don't think people were crazy to believe that there would be some physical affection between these two, either before JL's maternity, after or both. For myself I've been somewhat convinced we wouldn't see anything physical (kiss, love scene etc) once the rumors started that Natalia would be pregnant, so it's not like anything CC is saying now is news.

I don't know why I'm posting in spoilers but... whatever.

I don't think you need to be psychic to figure out where this is going.

1) nose-rubbing of love
2) name baby
3) move back in together

That's all she wrote. Anyway, next week is it, imo. Because after that it'll be ensemble stuff as we wrap the show proper. This storyline is over. (And has been for some time.)

There will be some fudge involving Rafe--we've been put (along with Olivia) through a full month of the most vindictive, hatefull bullshit for *no* reason with *no* compensation, explanation, or correction of that storyline, and speaking for myself, I resent that as much if not more than the no-kiss, which hasn't been on the books for months (whatever time you want to pinpoint its having gone out the window). But being punished on top of having no compensation is really shabby. In fact, arguably, it's homophobic. It indulges the worst aspects of people's fears rather than giving them something to cheer for or at least support/tolerate. It's pretty inexcusable.

That's assuming this show does what it usually does, of course, & simply changes course mid-stream & reverses itself.

I can understand Rafe being 'realistically' portrayed as having issues around the church & his mother's teachings. But seeking out Olivia specifically to inflict pain was well beyond the call of duty. Presumably that's supposed to teach us that going after harmless pink bunnies is *mean*, and Mature People Don't Do That.

It's the only way I can make sense out of their whole Mister Rogers approach to Gay 101.

All this ass-dragging by Olivia is just because the writers threw in the towel months ago. Dunno why; they didn't have to. Presumably we'll never know. I honestly don't care, at this point. But I do feel sorry for all those women who never saw BG and have no idea the world has other options.

Conclusions:

mainstream US TV blows, as it always has & will continue to;
networks are dead to me, but they have been for 20 years;
Showtime & HBO are the only options in this country; and...
the Brits rock.

But we already knew all of that.

Why did I bother, again...?

I don't disagree about Rafe's inexcusable behavior, and if you only see it in the clips, he would look like the biggest ingrate in town. His hatred has devolved from being vaguely religious to purely personal. But James has been hammering Philip for months now, repeatedly telling him that he hates him, has no time for him, will never have time for him. And Beth defends his behavior. Olivia has is easy by comparison.

What is it about entitled boys mouthing off to the adults?

Philip will be collapsing today - we can only hope they use James again for the miracle bone marrow transplant that just might kill him.

Woops, forgot abt Phillip & the soap disease. Well, add a poignant bedside scene or two with him & the Family. Or at least Liv.

I give her a week and a half. By the end of Natalia's second week (and by second week, I mean broadcast week, not Springfield week), Liv will have secumbed to the dimples and big brown eyes of the Christian Tortoise.

I agree abzug that a 7 day window of Plot may be involved, if only because there is so much more other old GL stuff that needs to be shot through the pipline.

I'm hopin' it will go for at least the two calendar weeks with perhaps a cliffhanger for the following. After all, won't there only be 5 weeks left once the CT decides to grace us with her presence again?

What do we know, huh?

Yeah, I've been hanging my head about that ever since last Friday. Luckily I was away and didn't have to show my face on the board and admit that I wildly underestimated the soap genre's ability to drag things out far beyond the furthest reaches of story believability.

okay solitasolano how many otalia bucks did I just lose? I think I may be deeply in debt by now. All we do know is they are together by the 14th. The trailer at the end of today's show had Liv still saying It's Never Gonna Happen. Sweet, kinda. Maybe she's seen the video?

Today Philip did say he would have to call Olivia and arrange to talk to Emma. It's amazing how much plot they can crank through when they want to - outed Baby Henry to all the Coopers and Lewises and got his paternity changed while Philip broke the news to everyone all in the space of 37 minutes.

cagey, as I recall at last count you were up $40 otalia bucks. Why not keep whatever's left over in the kitty and we'll all chip in for popcorn, cookies and see if we can figure out a movie to rent that would appeal to all of us. That is if any of us have any otalia bucks left after the next couple of weeks.

You know what I want? I finally figured it out. I want ONE thing, one development, that is a surprise, between now and the end. That is a pleasant surprise. <skuff>

I'm such a sucker.

From soapoperasource. I just had to.

Olivia reminds her, she wants to take things slow and Natalia understands but she wants Olivia to be a part of the baby's life.

We know where that leads...
