Wow microsofty, thanks for that! That's a really fab thing to see. I'm glad Simone still feels that Helen was one of her best roles. She agrees with us

Wow. What a pleasure to see! Does anyone know anything or have any thoughts about the context for this interview? The producer seems to do high-end clients, I can't get a fix on whether this was done sort of on the heels of the Logo airing (clearly it's over a year old now--when did Logo start running BG...??), as some kind of promotional thing, or to signal SL's ongoing interest in the role or... what? Her ongoing willingness to discuss and examine the role, her support of it and her own interest in thinking about it have been apparent since LeeAnn Kreigh's outstanding series of interviews in AfterEllen. This is just such a nice treat, though, seeing her talk about it again on camera in some depth. ETA: The WitB was clearly filmed at the same time. So I assume this was made as a sort of companion interview to go along with that one. |

G3 Curtain and Duvet!

Look at it this way. Simone is a working actress, and it seems from many of the interviews, articles etc that Simone at least appears to be the primary breadwinner in her family. What has been going on with Mandana is not quite so clear. With WITB ending series 6 and series 7 being in doubt (several months ago), what's a working actress to do? She would clearly have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to know that there is tremendous interest in the Nikki/Helen storyline among all BG fans. Both she and Mandana keep in touch with their fan base and websites. It was also somewhat obvious that she and Mandana have not or do not keep in contact. Why? None of our collective business, really. Lives do take separate paths, so I would leave it at that. You cannot blame Simone for attempting to generate interest in what would clearly be advantageous to both of them and their fans as well. What would be interesting to see is an interview by this same organization with Mandana on the same topic. |

Yes, my impression is that this was filmed last summer or thereabouts--before WitB got canceled--to pick up on some of the coverage from Logo. The U Cal reference in the WitB segment would also have been from around that time, as you suggest, J.

Excuse my ignorance - but what is the significance of when it was filmed? As far as I can tell the vid was uploaded to youtube on 27 Aug 09 by the producer herself - probably to coincide with the first broadcast of BG back in 1999? |

No special reason, Microsofty: same as we always do, I suppose, to contextualize it. Not much different than wondering when the special features reel with MJ in her trailer etc was filmed in relation to Series 3, etc. In this case, since it was clearly filmed about a year ago, I just found the fact that it hadn't been released before this of interest. |

According to the Robson Green Forum it appears that the setting for these interviews looks like the hotel where they hold the press launches for WitB and therefore it would seem likely that the interview was conducted in July 2008. I'm not sure why it hasn't popped up before this though. Helen James' own production company has only been in existence since April 2009, prior to that (and at the time of this interview) she worked for ITV Meridian as a reporter and presenter for ITV's news programme, Meridian Tonight (south and south east of England), as well as being an arts and entertainment correspondent for ITV programmes across Britain. My guess would be that these interviews never made it to air either because of time restraints or some or other editorial decision that they weren't of interest. The cynic in me wonders if already by this stage ITV was considering dropping WitB and not recommissioning it for the 7th series, even though they only made the official announcement to that effect at the beginning of Feb. 2009. Clearly ratings had nothing to do with their decision, so they may well have decided before it aired in September that they weren't going to recommission it and therefore had no interest in promoting it further by airing these interviews. As to why they have suddenly surfaced now and under Helen James own production company banner, who knows? Helen James Productions Ltd. currently has a new website under construction, perhaps she has permission from ITV to use old interview material that never aired to promote her interviewing skills in clips on the new site. (Maybe she was one of the many job cuts and is therefore in a better position to hold a gun to their heads!) She would appear to be a fan of Bad Girls as she is familiar with all the old "Sit in that chair!" and "Nice soot." quotes, so perhaps while looking for material for her website she decided that in addition to promoting her own company on YouTube, now would be a good time to post the interview to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the show. Whatever her reasons for posting them, I for one am grateful that she has! If you're out there Helen James, do you have any more? |

OK, don't know if you guys are aware already but there's a FAB new interview of Simone Lahbib in marking 10 years of "Bad Girls" as reported on Afterellen. You can watch it on AE's site - here's the specific page of the interview plus the video... Afterellen - Simone Lahbib Interview - 10 Years of "BG" Very candid interview where she spoke about "Bad Girls," the impact Helen & Nikki were to the gay community, their legions of fans, her take on possibly re-uniting w/ Mandana Jones to reprise their H&N roles (funny response from SL about this!), her comments about MJ.... the most candid (either video, audio or in magazines) I ever heard from SL. Worth checking out, guys.... |

Enhanced

I have been very slow off the mark in spotting this highly interesting interview and this sits very well with Leigh-Anne Krieg's marvellous set of interviews and certainly Helen James has that nicely relaxed style about her. If my memory isn't playing me tricks, it is both pleasant and understandably why Simone (like Mandana) speaks of Bad Girls in being one of the major roles in her career and why that should be. You sense the real pleasure in the way they both had to conjure up so much to supplement what was on the written page of the script and the fact that their characters couldn't express themselves directly has enhanced this. I can understand both the reservations and the attractions in wanting to reprise their roles. |

Just a general thank you to those of you who share links, and who upgraded Simone's site. I was able to watch the interview last week. Without your links and notifications, I wouldn't have seen it! |
