I thought that kiss was a purposeful acting choice

Alright that makes sense. I'll go along with that ... for now. To me, LK looked stiff and unsure. Just sayin'.

So far am enjoying CC, love me some HBS and am missing JL. Oh and I thought Jordan Clarke was good in his scenes - despite the writing.

beaches of Thailand (shout out to sister muppet microsofty)

girls making out on the beach.

Hey, I'm not complainin'. Ready for epi 6.

OMG I think we almost might maybe have plot erupting now, after 5 eps.

On a technical note, the website is performing, for me, exactly as it always was. Maybe I'll try again at 3am.

Hiking with someone has never been Zen and I've never tried hiking in my Birkies. But the completely humorous moment with the "that was a great workout" on the part of CC was refreshing.

solitasolano you have got to give some comments on the sound. Well, first, the sound guy ID'd himself in the behind the scenes - and that seemed fresh that someone would admit to being the sound guy and second Owen doing his work out sounds like his is broadcasting from the Grand Canyon.

Is that a touch of faux English vowels I hear coming from Tracy?

And why it the bottle of wine already open and clearly not full? Gina having another shot of liquid courage before Tracy shows up?

I thought the sound during the beach scene was surprisingly good though.

Yeah I feel like we are finally hitting some plot. I liked this ep quite a bit - mostly because of the relationship between Gina and Owen - CC and GG are selling the sibling thing nicely.

I'm not feeling Gina and Tracy much but oh well. I guess we'll see.

The last few eps have improved from one to the next - which I think is a good sign.

Now we just need JL to show up in an episode - though thank goodness she was in the BTS! Ummm though I don't want to see Kimmy in another bts - I'd rather watch the actors just standing around and gabbing.

REVERBBBBBBB

I am irresistably reminded of Mrs Which. :hug2

All I can say is, if people are this thrilled about the BtS, what came before must be grim indeed. Bec I saw the BtS & was like... yeah? so? Mainly extremely awkward chitchat between people who have nothing to say to each other & are, well... boring.

<back to my lair>

[eta: pops head out again. It's like they really have *no* sense of how this looks from the outside. This seems peculiar to me: they're actors, no?]

I’m way behind. A week later I’m ducking under the comment wire barely before the release of epi6, a few more things to say.

Reverbbbbby basement workout room is probably really in the basement room of the hotel VTS used for filming. (ekny I had to look up the Mrs. Which reference. Does that show my grey hair?) The room has a low ceiling and reflective (literally) surfaces of mirror, CC leaning wall, floor, and ceiling. The sound bounces around from one surface to the next. Can’t get a boom in there too close because it will show in the mirror. Besides, if the production recordist did sneak a boom in for the Owen CUs, that take would sound totally different than the wider shot where the boom would have to be further away. This way, all of Owen’s dialog sounds the same, even if it is Mrs. Which worthy. Notice however that the Gina CUs have less “room” on them. As I said before, whatever “room” (aka reverb) is on the original recording can only be added to and never taken away. You can make it “wetter” in the mix, but never “dryer”. (A little shop talk for you ekny…."wet" and "dry" as modifiers for reverb as well as whatever.)

Yeah how ‘bout that, they didn’t mess up the radio mikes. They sounded good. The beach scene starts out as a long shot. You can’t get close to the actors with a boom so they had to use radios. Also, filming out there on the beach it’s less conspicuous for the passing beachwalking public (did they film without permits I wonder?) to notice anything is going on. But then again, did you all notice how active the background on the beach was in the earlier shots of the beach scene, but in the makeout part, which was latter in the day, there is no one in the bg, not beach activity?
I thought the fill light on the profile and medium shots was perfect. Not too much to give itself away or waver on the faces from the sea breeze, a good balance for the beautiful light of the “golden hour” (ekny, another film term and reference).

You all probably also noted the adds in the roll credits at the end. It’s unusual to have an AP and Musical Director credit before main producers and cast. Now KimmyT has, count them, f-o-u-r tail credits. Going for some sort of record I suppose.

Did I mention ever that I think CC has a great profile? May she never change that nose.
I'm also enjoying the story. Should I be embarrassed?

CC totally has a great profile: that nose is better than the Barrymores. Which is sayin something. <g>

You didn't get the Mrs Which reference, really? Wow, I assumed that would be just about universal... not all that age-specific at this point. Sorry! Re the golden hour: I feel relatively sure that's a term photographers use as well. I have the impulse to check wikipedia, hang on... hm. They don't date or place its origin, darnit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_hour_(photography)

"Sources differ on the definition of “golden hour” (and “magic hour”, which is often treated as a synonym). Some, such as Lynch-Johnt and Perkins (2008, 68 [Lynch-Johnt, Barbara A., and Michelle Perkins. 2008. Illustrated Dictionary of Photography: The Professional's Guide to Terms and Techniques]) consider it the time when the Sun is near but above the horizon. Others, such as Singleton (2000, 176 [Singleton, Ralph S., and James A. Conrad. 2000. Filmmaker's Dictionary. 2nd ed]) consider it the time “between sundown and darkness”, when the Sun is below the horizon, i.e., during twilight. The character of the lighting during twilight is quite different from that when the Sun is above the horizon, and the former is sometimes known as the blue hour."

Loved wet & dry as sound modifiers, I'm so glad you're doing these little write-ups! :clap

ps: What about the story are you liking? Curious.

Tie dye!!!!!!

At work so did my usual..."watched" the episode MOS.
Noticed two additions. One, the "star" sting VFX in the opening Venice credits (or has that been there?) They needed something to spark up that flat backlit sunrise over smoggy hazy Venice look. I prefer the view out to the ocean over the blue building which was used for the opening credit sequence in epi 1 and used today as a blink of an eye "transition" shot in today's episode. Transition shots have been missing from the web series, not to mention "establishing" shots. I would have like to see where Owen and Sam were to start out the show. Now I just can't help thinking they were backed up to someone's retaining wall in the Hollywood hills.
Two, the FBI disclaimer tagged on at the end...he he. Could this be VTS's new fundraising mode?

More when I can listen, but CC is great even w/o the sound on.

On the same note, forgot to add the lingo of "add some slap," which means to add reverb or make it "wetter".

molsongrrrl you are a genius photo editor and should be hired immediately to replace whoever chose the original stills from that photo shoot.

Here's my not so original thought: the problem is the script. Not the writing, but the script - the way the story is being told. Comparing this to say, Plan V, still my favorite lesbian webseries, this show has taken half of its first series to get to an episode where something develops that is compelling enough to make me sort of watch next week.

Writers of web-based dramas are still figuring out how to cater to a blip-minute once a week audience and they are relying too much on older forms of film when they probably ought to be looking at cartoons or The Magic Roundabout or other 6 minute episodic shows

Gina T - whole different actor, don't you think? Liked her a lot.

Dead thread?

"Let's not pretend that was true."
Now if they had done the whole first scene face to face instead of over the phone, I would then have been impressed. The emotions and dialog was all there, they were just on the phone.

And, ah, a transition shot which actually infers a passage of the day and sets time and place.
Aunt Guya's "give it time", was that supposed to be an admonishment to we the Venice viewing public to see out the season before not calling again?

Cracks me up that the Gina character can give her brother a hard time about falling for someone he's just dated and yet the irony of how she operates like that all the time.

I guess Rocky is a comin' next week.

Word/phrase of the week: "soonish"

Ah solitasolano we may be the only ones watching...

Must disagree as to the phrase o' the ep. It has to be: "we are the demographic."

So not.

And I still firmly believe CC makes a lousy lesbian, in this context. With Otalia I was sold on her realizing that her true affections lay not with men. Maybe it is just because Gina is a completely unlikeable character, and I like to think lesbians are likeable. Still, it seems to me that CC is playing a player more than a *lesbian* player, and I do believe there are differences. Plus, I do not get any gay vibes from her. JL, however, is another matter.

All insanely bad dialogue aside (and I assume most of that very entertaining fireside chat was improvised by the actors) this is still a very pretty piece of internet based video.
