Melodious Nocturne
|
Scorpius eyed the boy as he walked in, he was oddly familiar in many physical characteristics, it’s like he had known him for a very long time. Eyes drifting to the boy’s face the soft curve of his chin to the longer nose. The eyes, pensive and green full of something that Scorpius would spend days no weeks in a library figuring out. There was rawness in this boy. The train thudded suddenly but didn’t stop, the compartment shook. Scorpius lurched forward, eyes widening. But it all became silent again. His owl gave an irritated hoot and settled back in it's cage, head under it's wing “I suppose so, anyway. Where are my manners?” Scorpius said in his soft voice. “Scorpius Malfoy.” He thrust out his hand in a prompt and confident manner. “I hope,” He began as he took the other’s hand and shook it. “We can become friends.” -------- Lysander had no friends of his age. Quite honestly, he preferred it that way. He got a head in classes and didn’t need to worry about social drama. Drama to Lysander was pathetic. The human creature seemed to create drama for entertainment purposes only, not only does it destroy relationships but also the ones watching and the people involved. It had become part of their system. Lysander shook his head, clearing his thoughts as he drifted down the corridors of compartments; he had been stopped by the plump sugar cart lady. Plump wonder why when she sells sweets hmm? “Ah, I’ll have a peppermint patty please.” Lysander was always the one who got money from his parents by swindling. He swore he would have been in Slytherin instead of Ravenclaw. Matter of fact he was bemused he had gotten where he was now. But he had done it alone. Proudly. ---- Tom laughed, really loudly. He knew where he was going to go. The Gyffindor red and gold had been screaming his name since he was in the cradle. He had packed himself crazy with sweets and a good bunch of friends in a compartment (oddly enough right beside the Malfoy boy’s) people that included Delaney Jordan, the daughter of world renown Qudditch wireless and talk show host Lee Jordan along with hopefully a batch of new lions. Right now they were playing a game of gob stones and munching down but as he watched out the compartment door he remembered first getting on the train and sitting down in the compartment. He had seen a boy, slightly smaller than himself walk by. Hair a shimmering maroon hair, a quick turn and the boy had been talking to another person. His eyes, bluer than the sky flashing with some odd type of light in them, Tom just stared. The boy had moved on. Edited by Hawk, Sep 28 2011, 02:44 PM.

![]() Georgia Goyle was sitting alone. She didn't care for people, and they clearly didn't care to be around her. That was fine. She wanted time alone with her thoughts. Not that her thoughts were good company, but they were the best company she had right then. It was the morning of September first, and Georgia was on her way to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the very first time. She already knew all she needed to about the place, Her father and "uncle" Draco having told her and Scorpius all about it. She knew what teachers to suck up to, what classes she would like, and even what house she would be in. Yes the colors green and silver were just calling her name. The mascot of serpent begging for her to claim it as hers, and its house her rightful place. Nothing but Slytherin would do for the sly, cunning little girl that sat watching the country pass by outside the train window. A small bark caught her attention, and her eyes turned away from the window, to the puppy that had previously been resting beside her. "I know. Its boring as hell. We'll be there soon" Georgia reassured the animal, scratching her behind the ears. ![]() Molly Weasley was worried. Not about herself, but about poor little Alice Longbottom. The girl had seemed very nervous when boarding the train, and Molly had helped her out. The two had found somewhere to sit, and even stowed their trunks, but Molly had to leave. Having been made prefect over the summer, the redhead had new responsibilities. She also had to ride in the prefect carriage on the train. She had to leave Alice alone. And that made her worry. And now she was to patrol the train corridors, with another fifth year prefect. So there was not much chance of her getting to sit with Alice after all. She wondered Vaguely, why on earth the small blonde child wasn't attached at the hip to one of her elder brothers. Surely she would have been. When Lucy had started at Hogwarts, she only left Molly alone to go to class, and at curfew. Perhaps the Longbottom family Dynamic worked differently than their own. Percy Weasley placed emphasis on family when raising his own daughters. Something that had happened long before they were born, her mother told them. Family was important, family came before anything and everything. That's always what he said. That's always what she had known. So to say that the Longbottom boy's seeming abandonment of their sister on her very first day of school confused her, was a bit of an understatement. But it was not her place to pry. ![]() The blonde sat alone. One of very few. Most sat with their families, and friends. Alice didn't have any friends, and her brothers seemed not to be bothered with her most of the time, so she chose not to bother them. She wished she could have left the previous day with her father. The teachers always had to be at the school early. He had refused the request though. He didn't want her to miss out on her very first train ride, and getting to meet other first years and all that. Alice was scared though. Molly had been helpful. She always was, whenever they were at a big gathering together. Very much like the Minister. The eleven year old girl got up off her seat, and left the compartment. She was officially bored, and wanted to talk to SOMEONE. So she set off down the corridor, peering into compartment doors as she went, hoping to see someone she knew, or even better someone she didn't. Hopefully first years. That way she could make a brand new friend. Friends were always nice to have. Isn't that what mother always said? And daddy too. They always talked about friendship, as if it were the most important thing in the world. So wouldn't that be something to write home to her mother about? That she made a friend on the first day of term. Alice could only hope that would be the case. |

He held on tight as the train shuddered, not moving quite as much as the blond boy. The name the boy mentioned sounded oddly familiar but he shook the thought from his mind. There was no point in dwelling on it while staring listlessly at the boy. That would only cause the other to think him some sort of nutter and that was surely not what he wanted. Albus glanced at the boy, realizing he should probably reply soon. "Albus Potter." He said as Scorpius shook his hand. At first he was surprised by the contact but the feel of the blond's warm and welcoming hand was enough to put him at ease. The shock of someone saying out loud that they wanted to be friends with him also surprised him but by now, it had worn off. "I'd like that." He smiled happily at Scorpius, glad to have met someone who wasn't remotely related to him. Lord knows it was bad enough with his older brother and his cousins as well as the rest of the damned family. Sometimes he did wonder whether he'd been adopted for the sheer fact that he was nothing like the rest of his family. "It's nice to meet a non-relative who's not off their rocker." Albus looked the boy up and down again, wondering what was so intriguing about him. Maybe it was because the boy was so straightforward? Whatever it was, Albus sincerely hoped they were in the same house, away from the rest of his family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She waved her hand in front of the younger boy's face. "Hello! Earth to Tom!" He looked like he'd gotten distracted by something in the hallway. The glance out the door reminded her that she'd promised her dad that she'd look for the others. She stood and made her way to the door, glancing back at Tom and the others as she did so. "Alas, duty calls. I'll be back later guys. Promised the rents I'd go check on friends." Delaney closed the door behind her and went in the opposite direction of the compartment with Albus and the Malfoy boy. She certainly did not want to see Albus, at least not until last. That boy had a wicked temper. Delaney sighed, passing a couple Slytherin girls who gave her a look of daggers. If looks could kill, she'd probably have been hexed six times over in this train car alone. It was annoying to say the least but still she wore a smile on her face as she hunted for someone she knew. Being that most of her friends(and parents' friends' kids) would be first years finally, she was on the prowl for any of them. A Weasley or a Longbottom, any of them, would be nice to find. Except Lysander. He was a bit of a twat though it only bothered her sometimes. Other times it was quite entertaining. She rounded past another group, this time a group of fifth year Gryffindors as she reached the last set of compartments. Delaney pushed her dark hair over her shoulder as she glanced up and down the hallway. It seemed she was destined to not find anyone or some stupid crap like that. It sounded like something her mother would say. With a light bit to her lip, she paused and thought for a moment. It would seem that she had gotten on the wrong car. She rolled her eyes, slightly frustrated by her miscalculation before heading to the next car. It was here that she finally found someone she recognized. Hopefully it was one of those 'he isn't annoying' days. "Hey Lysander. What are you doing travelling the train alone? I figured you'd have found your siblings or something." She half smiled at him, knowing that despite his annoyances, they had known each other for quite some time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here she was, her first day going off to the school her brother was always talking about. A bright future lay ahead of her if only she applied herself. She could do anything, be anything. And yet, she couldn't even find an empty or somewhat empty train compartment. Well, that wasn't entirely truthful. She'd found a compartment or two but the students inside had looked rather...gruff. The young Zabini had taken one look at them and kept walking. So now she wandered aimlessly. She skirted out of the way to avoid a rather tall, overly excited group of boys and instead bumped into someone else. She saw a flash of blonde hair as she tried to grab her bag before it hit the ground. Once she'd regained her composure(well, as much as she could regain after such an event), she looked at the girl in front of her. "Uh...sorry. I guess I wasn't looking where I was going." She half smiled nervously, unsure of what to do in this situation. If it were up to her parents, she would have scoffed at the girl unless she was in a wealthier and more influential family. Verity wasn't the type to really care about that sort of thing. "I'm Verity by the way." |

![]() Alice stumbled just a touch, and nearly lost her balance. She regained it however, and looked around for whomever had crashed into her, in the hopes of making sure they too were still on their feet. Embarrassingly enough, the small blonde hadn't noticed the other girl. She had been to busy gazing out the window as she walked. Stupid. "Omigosh I'm sorry! I wasn't even paying attention, are you okay?" She cried at the same time the other girl offered her own apology. She grinned back, rather sheepishly, and offered out her hand to the girl. "Hi. I'm Alice. Nice to meet you." |

"I see you're as impatient as ever Rosie dear. You should work on that." They were cousins after all and were fairly close so the chiding that they all gave each other was of course allowed and no one really took offense to it. Rose just sat there and stuck her tongue out at her cousin. Anna passed some gum to her brother and cousin and sat down. She pocketed the gum and looked out the window. She rather liked trains she found. The random little bumps and rocking of the train car were rather soothing and calmed one down she found. But soon, her calmness would be anything but. The door opened and revealed none other than Timothy Longbottom. She hadn't really noticed he was there and offhandedly gave him a greeting. "Hello Tim." Upon hearing herself speak his name, she realized that it was none other than Tim Longbottom in her compartment...for no reason whatsoever. "Tim! What are you doing here?" Her face warmed slightly and the apples of her cheeks reddened. She had inherited the Weasley blush and soon everything from her chin up was as red as a tomato. Even the tips of her ears were red with embarrassment and surprise that he was here. Not only was he a friend of the family but every summer for the past who knows how many years, he and Anna had had many a conversation just the two of them speaking about everything from family affairs to what she should expect out of Hogwarts. He was after all two years older than herself and was already in his third year. Unbeknownst to all, Anna had formed a crush on the eldest Longbottom a couple years ago. It was nothing but a little girl's crush, but it was her first and she thought he was cute. That's all that mattered. She quickly remembered her manners and took out the pack of droobles she had put in her pocket and held them out as an offering to Tim. "Droobles?" |

Tim turned his gaze from Fred to the only other inhabitant that mattered in that moment. A moment of silence and surprise hit him as he glanced at the familiar redheaded girl. Swallowing, he figured it might be a good idea to respond even if it came out somewhat broken. "H-hi Arianna." The brunette boy nodded as he reached out to take a few droobles from her outstretched hand. Time seemed to slow and tunnel vision kicked in. She was the only other person in the room in his mind even though he was well aware there were others. When had it become like this? They'd known each other for so long now but he was still trying to figure out when it changed from brotherly love to...well...a not so brotherly love. Of course they'd been pretty close when they were younger but he'd also been close with Fred and Alli then too. Maybe it was during the talks the two of them would have about anything and everything. Those talks had become the highlight of family get-togethers(even though the Longbottoms weren't family with the Weasleys). When he'd gone to Hogwarts, he'd found himself missing her. It was a little hard to accept that he had a crush on her. There were so many things wrong with that after all. She was a close friend, two years younger, and extremely close to his family. Besides, she didn't even like him, right? All thoughts were cut short as he accidentally brushed her hand. It was just a light passing but it was enough to feel the warmth radiating from her. His breath caught in his throat and he immediately rescinded his hand. Tim's face was slightly flushed when, thankfully, Fred cleared his throat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fred watched the whole situation pan out with interest. The two were acting very odd though he did find it interesting. Perhaps there was a crush or two at play here. A smile graced his face as they had the VERY cliche 'hands just brushing momentarily' moment. Oh, this year was definitely going to be good. Finally, the eldest Weasley triplet figured it a good time to interrupt and save the two from further embarrassment. He'd have to keep an eye on them in the future and see if his guesses were correct. "So, have you seen your siblings yet? I was sure Alice would be somewhere nearby at least. First year and all." He said after clearing his throat to lessen the tense air Tim had created. "I-I lost her on the platform." He glanced at Anna before taking a seat across from her, beside Fred. Elijah watched with amusement but said nothing about the two. He was nothing if not a gracious friend. "She is quite the wily one. I'm sure she'll make her way here eventually." He shrugged, leaning closer to the window. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Verity bit her lip nervously as she shook Alice's hand. She was still worried that the other girl would be angry with her but she did let out a smile. "Nice to meet you too. I really am sorry about almost knocking you over." She looked the other girl up and down, feeling very plain in comparison. "Can I buy you some sweets to make up for it?" She asked, noticing the sweets trolley just a few compartments away. Verity was already quite peckish so she figured it was a good enough solution. Besides, what kind of trip would it be without a few sweets? Especially when her parents weren't there to stop her. The dark haired girl quickly put her hand in her pocket to make sure she still had some money left on her. A few galleons jingled in her pocket thankfully. |

Scorpius frowned slightly as he surveyed the boy in front of him. Scorpius’ let his hands fall to his sides and rest on the plush red seats. Scorpius’ eyes widened at the name, his voice too. It was soft, yet pompous and yet oddly familiar to his ears. He closed his eyes and turned to the window, now rain was starting to stain the windows. Scorpius had no idea what to say back to a Potter. It was insane, finally meeting the man’s son. The man who saved his father and the Man his father felt guilt towards. It’s not like Draco Malfoy outwardly said things like this, but Scorpius had learned how to read behind the lines of his father’s face and many other’s for that matter. He knew the body language; he knew the look behind his eyes. The smile on Albus’ lips was a big relief, hopefully no matter what house they were sorted into. “Non-relative?” Scorpius pressed, attempting to converse with him. “You have a lot of family here?” He asked. /// Tom laughed at Delaney’s attempt to bring him back to reality. “Well, have fun there Delaney.” Tom nodded. He leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes; his first year of Hogwarts was on his mind. Lysander on the other hand had the peppermint patty in his mouth when Delaney had appeared. He raised a light blonde eyebrow at her. She was beautiful, that’s for sure but shorter than him and he always found that people shorter than him were interesting and Delaney was no difference. “Good Morrow my dear cuz.” He said in his airy voice, eyes wide with fascination. “You’ve really gotten smaller or I’ve gotten taller, but you are as beautiful as ever.” He replied to her question with his own statement. He licked his lip in thought, he had forgotten where he had ditched Timothy or anyone else from his family and friends list. Or his sister for that matter, he really thought that Tim could take care of her. He found no interest in showing her around a train she would only be on four three or four hours. “I haven’t got the faintest idea where anyone else is...” He pondered out loud, his eyes on the ceiling then back down to her, his lips pressing into a small smile. “I should be looking for them, I suppose.” Edited by Hawk, Oct 10 2011, 10:13 PM.

![]() Alice, still smiling, was pleased when the girl accepted the hand. She was making friends already, how exciting. She didn't need her brothers. This was easy. "ONLY, if you let me buy you some for almost knocking you over." Alice offered. She wasn't about to just take this girl's money, when she had been just as much at fault for their little mishap. And besides she had plenty of it to spend. "It was my fault too, so its only fair." Alice said, before Verity could put up a fight about it. ![]() Phyre was irritated. This Hufflepuff girl he was patrolling with, was just...ugh. He was hoping he and Molly Weasley would be paired together as they often were. He liked to pick her brain, and she seemed to enjoy his company as well. They worked well together, she and he. But he was here, walking around the back of the train with whats her face who offered no intelligent conversation whatsoever. Perhaps he would be saved somehow. Running into his sister seemed like the best option, but of course the girl was nowhere when he needed her. He sighed and walked on, watching for trouble, or a good escape route. Both would be a welcome change from hearing about Hufflepuff's trip to Bangladesh. |

Albus Severus Potter Albus tilted forward in his seat, finding it interesting that this boy who'd seemed rather unapproachable at first was actually engaging him in conversation. He wasn't complaining of course, actually it was quite the opposite. The young Potter was enjoying the budding of a new friendship. "A lot would be an understatement. I think I'm related to half the students at Hogwarts." He tried to get a read on the other boy but was unable to tell what was going on inside those blue eyes. Scorpius was certainly good at his poker face Albus devised. He let out a sigh at the very idea of how many of his relatives were on the train and of how many he couldn't stand. "I was blessed with being born into a section of the Weasley family. A family which seems to branch absolutely everywhere." Albus didn't hate his family, hate was too strong a word. Sure he had a strong dislike for a handful of them though the rest were tolerable. Some he actually liked. Arianna was okay, same with Allison, but he couldn't stand Fred. They seemed to be in constant competition with each other. He rarely got along with Molly but Hugo and Rose were okay. It was fairly even in people he disliked and people he didn't. James was very high on the dislike list. He glanced back up at the blonde boy, a small smile on his face. Maybe it was just because he was talking to someone that wasn't stupid that caused him to feel comfortable or perhaps he was just excited to be going to school. Either way, Albus was happy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Delaney Delaney smiled, feeling it was going to be an okay talk with Lysander. That was never a bad thing. Placing a hand on her hip, she smiled at him. "Well, aren't you full of compliments today. Care for some company while you search for them?" There was sarcasm evident in her voice, suggesting that they don't actually go looking for them. She didn't have anything against them, she was just bored and that didn't sound entertaining at all. "Unless you have more important things to do?" She wore a smirk on her face as she raised an eyebrow. Delaney was feeling a bit mischievous and hoped that Lysander would go along with it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Verity Taryn Zabini She let a smile cross her face as she pushed her dark hair behind her ear. It seemed they both had the same idea. "Sounds good to me." A smile crossed her face as they walked toward the sweets trolley. Could she be lucky enough to have already made a new friend? With any luck they'd end up in the same house. Maybe Ravenclaw! That's what Verity was aiming for. It was the only other house that was acceptable other than Slytherin. "What sweets do you want? Pick anything!" The excitement couldn't be hidden from her voice as she glanced from Alice to the candy and back. She was curious to see what facial expressions the other girl wore in her company. Would it be disgust? Fascination? Happiness? |

![]() Phyre Zabini The entire train ride had been spent talking to the Hufflepuff girl. Phyre couldn't say it had been the best train ride in, but it could definitely have been worse. When the time came to pull into the Hogsmede station, the two parted ways to get changed into their school robes. Like all the other second years and above, He traveled the path down to the carriages, that hauled them all up to the school. He met up with fellow Slytherin friends, heard about summers, and chatted about how the year would go. One girl swore up and down that it was going to be a terrible year. OWL's were supposed to be close to life ruining. That's what her brother had told her in any case, and whether they believed it or not was their problem now. Once they reached the school, they all piled in through the entrance hall, and into the great hall. It was glowing in the light of the thousands of floating candles, and the ceiling mirrored the starry nights sky. People were sitting about, chattering. Professor McGonagall was right there, dead center of the head table, smiling down at them all, and before her was the stool, that held the sorting hat. Phyre couldn't help a smile as he sat down. The start of term feast, was always a most promising night at Hogwarts. ![]() Molly Weasley Molly hadn't seen much of anyone during the train ride. She rode with strangers in the carriages, and even when she wandered into the Great hall, people she knew were oddly missing. The hall was filled with its usual splendor, and cheeriness. She sat down at the Ravenclaw table, and let her eyes wander about the hall, until a couple of her dorm mates showed up and claimed her attention. Soon the whole school was seated, and the doors were opening. All their heads turned to watch Professor Longbottom leading the first years in, as he had every year. They all looked so lost, and scared, and small, and curious. Some were nearly bursting with excitement, while others were trying to hide behind those closest to them. Molly grinned watching them now, thinking how in a couple of weeks they would be walking around like the rest of them. As if they had been here forever. They all crowded to the front, and listened to Professor Longbottom explain how the sorting worked. The the old dusty, patched up hat opened wide at the brim, and began to sing. ![]() Alice Longbottom When they had gotten off the train, Alice had stuck close to Verity. They had been called off in an opposite direction. Just the first years though. Following the half giant, Hagrid, they trooped down the tree lined path to the lake. When they rounded the bend, and the castle came into view, Alice was at a loss for words. It was magnificent. A towering structure, glittering with light pouring from every window, right up to the tallest tower. It sat on the side of a cliff face, and its reflection shimmered in the water. A collective gasp ran through the crowd of first years. They were ushered into small rowboats after a moment, and the boats moved themselves across the lake, closer and closer to the magnificent castle. They anchored at the bottom of the cliff face, and started the long climb up the stairs. Still Alice kept close to Verity. This girl could possibly be her only friend, and she was hesitant to let her get too far. They were met at the doors by her dad, and her nerves broke down into smiles for the time being. They were lead into a room that barely held them all, and told to wait. When he came back for them, most has worked themselves back up into nerves. They were all scared now, of what was about to happen, what house they would ended up in, and what the rest of the student body was going to think of them. Into the great hall, and down between the center of the room. Mr. Longbottom stood right up at the front, and explained it all to them. They were to come up when their name was called, and try on the hat. From there they would be sorted. That was when the hat began to sing. Alice didn't listen to much of the song. Just the parts explaining what traits the houses looked for. She wasn't any of those. Not brave,or knowledgeable, or hardworking, or ambitious. She was going to sit there all night with that stupid hat on her head. So when her name was called, she froze in her spot. Someone had nudged her, and that was all that had gotten her to move. She approached the stool, and sat upon it. With a kind smile, her father placed the sorting hat on her head, and it slipped over her eyes, blocking everyone from view. "Well now" A voice in her head started "I see we have another Longbottom. Girl this time, yes. I can see you don't want to be alone. I sense a longing to fit in, to have friends. People to relate to, and spend time with, and love. Of course I know where to put you. To find what you seek, you must belong to... HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat shouted the last word for all the hall to hear. Cheers erupted, the hat was pulled off her head, and she made her way over to sit at the table beneath the yellow and black coloured banners. ![]() Georgia Goyle Georgia was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet the entire time the sorting hat sung. She already knew what house she belonged to, and couldn't wait to get this over with, and show everyone how Slytherin was the best, and only choice. G rolled about quickly on the alphabetical list of students, and it was no time at all before the man running the show was calling out "Goyle, Georgia". Smirk upon her face, she strolled up to the stool, but didn't bother to sit. The hat was lowered ,and had barely touched her head before the voice filled her ears "Well, someone who knows exactly what they want. Very rare. As you wish....SLYTHERIN!". The hat was yanked off her head, and the small girl moved toward the table under green and silver, filled with grinning faces, proud of their new arrival. Edited by Kairi, Jan 15 2012, 06:17 PM.
