Flurry of the Dancing Flames/The Lord of the Dance
|
--Albus Potter-- He let out a shaky breath, standing amidst the mass of first years on the Great Hall. Of course, he'd heard stories of what Hogwarts was really like but nothing compared to witnessing the real thing. The young Potter had been in awe since getting off the train and sailing across the blackened water to the island that held his new home. Albus had stuck close to his new... acquaintance, Scorpius through out the trip, not wanting to venture too far from the one person he knew who wasn't of familial relation. His eyes scanned the scenery each step of the way, almost memorizing every small and insignificant detail from the reflection of the lit up castle on the black water to the individual, flickering flames of the candles in the Great Hall. It helped to lessen the anxiety he felt over the sorting. The hat had sung it's song, Professor Longbottom had explained the proceedings and students were slowly filling the bench before filtering off to their new house. The young wizard glanced at each table, wondering where would be best for him, where he'd fit in the most. His father had stated that any house would be a wonderful option, that no single one stood out above another. James had notioned otherwise but years had taught Albus not to trust everything his brother told him. "Potter, Albus." The raven haired boy broke from his thoughts as he walked toward the forboding stool. Was it just his imagination or had the room gone silent? Hushed conversations here and there. His palms were sweaty with nerves as he approached the ratty old hat. Time seemed to slow down as his breath left him, the hat nearing his messy hair. "Such a debate I see. Another young Potter here to try and persuade their house choice. Hmmm you're brave, bold and daring though cunning as well. Intelligence and loyalty...Gryffindor or Slytherin are on your mind. Better be...SLYTHERIN!" The whole ordeal left Albus a little paler than he had been originally but the table closer to the wall let out a cheer and welcomed him. He slid onto the bench, happy to see there were a few others in the house that he knew. --Timothy Longbottom-- He was happy yet a little disappointed to get away from the awkwardness of the train. The way he acted around Arianna was definitely not good. Hopefully, with school back in session, he'd be able to distract himself more and leave her in peace. It was never good to be attracted to family friends. He found himself to be less articulated around her and often resulted in his face being very red. He needed to be more mature and get over this silly little crush. Tim sighed, playing with the edge of his new school robe. Taking a deep breath, he let a smile play on his face. Maybe he had just been in a melancholy mood and that was why he'd acted in such a way. Besides, she was like a little sister to him. There was nothing to think about yet. Watching the students get sorted, he offered his congratulations whenever a first year got sorted into Ravenclaw. He felt a sense of pride fill him as more new students joined their table. Hopefully, they would be able to work together in their studies and win the house cup at the end of the year. Last year, they had been close to winning but were beaten out last minute by Slytherin. He watched Alice go up to the stool, his eyes lit with excitement. He was curious which house she'd end up in though he was betting Ravenclaw or Gryfindor. Tim hadn't mentioned his musings to her as he didn't want to place any precedent. Having to go through the sorting was hard enough without having a specific house in mind. A lot of other students were pressured by their siblings or parents to get a certain house so he wanted to minimize that feeling. The hat seemed to debate a moment which was only a little surprising. It took a little longer to decide than normal which caught his interest. Soon the hat was yelling out Hufflepuff and his sister was happily heading in that direction. The oldest Longbottom smiled and clapped cheerily for her as she passed the Ravenclaw table. After the excitement, he went back to playing with the edge of his robe, pondering over what readings he'd need to do in the first week. Allison's name was called and that's when he realized Arianna would be next. He found himself waiting with baited breath for some reason that he couldn't understand. Later on, the confusion would set in as he tried to understand why these emotions were plaguing him so suddenly. --Delaney Jordan-- At some point, Delaney had given up on helping Lysander find his siblings. He didn't exactly seem in the mood for it anyway though she'd enjoyed some conversation with him that they didn't normally get. She wore a big smile on her face after getting off the train and boarding the carriages. Managing to find a few of the others in her year, she carried some small chat with them, mostly about which first years would wind up in which house. It was sort of a tradition they'd done since their second year. They were whisked into the Great Hall rather quickly before the pale, shaking first years were marched in as if they were standing trial. Delaney always felt just a little bad for them since she still remembered how terrifying it had been. One of the kids in her year had thrown up from the nerves. She sat through the sorting, her stomach rumbling for food despite it all. A smile was plastered on her face as she happily welcomed the new Gryffindors that nervously slid onto the end of the benches. Surprise lit her features as Albus was sorted into Slytherin but she didn't let it linger. Most of the family friends were bound to be sorted across the houses. The only one she'd be surprised about was if Fred didn't get Gryffindor. --Verity Zabini-- She clung to Alice, holding onto the only person she'd befriended so far and hoping against all hope that they'd be in the same house together. How wonderful it would be to share a dorm with her new friend. Verity tried to quell the thoughts, in case luck was against her. The boat ride up to the school was terrifying, the black water swirling in against the sides of the rickety boats. Professor Longbottom was reassuring though, making sure she knew it was completely safe. It offered a bit of relief and she was able to make the whole trip without being sick. When they hit land, she happily stepped onto solid ground and ascended the steps, her eyes nervously darting around the place. It was weird to think that this foreign place would be her home for the next seven years. The brilliance that was the Great Hall was overwhelming. The wait before had seemed all too much but it was quickly eclipsed by the beauty of the dazzling night sky that was the ceiling and the hundreds, perhaps millions of small, flickering candles that littered the air. They floated low enough to light the entire hall but just high enough to not get in the way or to be pulled down by meddlesome students. Of course, the beauty was amazing and all but the hundreds of eyes that watched them were all the more overwhelming. The youngest Zabini was watching the other first years with wide eyes, not sure what to do with herself. The hat had burst out in song, making her jump slightly before the students started being called up. Of course, she'd be last because of her last name but Alice was called long before her. It seemed that she was related to the professor that had brought them across the water she surmised from Alice's last name. Hufflepuff. That was her new friend's house. With any luck, though luck was rarely on her side, she'd be in the same. Time went slowly as student after student was called out, various reactions from students and teachers alike before her name finally came up. Each step was filled with apprehension, her eyes barely moving from her feet. It seemed to go all too fast. The hat was placed on her head, she glanced at Alice and suddenly there was a voice in her head. The hat was talking to her. "Quite the timid one. You desire friendship, a sense of belonging. You belong in...SLYTHERIN!" The look on her face was surely one of pain. Slytherin was her brother's house, one of the few places she had hoped not to be. Still, she offered Alice a small smile before going to sit under the green and silver banners of Slytherin. --Fred Elijah Weasley-- Fred was probably one of the only students who wasn't concerned with how the sorting was going to go. He didn't care what house he was put in, as long as he was able to get along with his peers and that had never been an issue for him. He already knew for the most part what the castle looked like from the books he'd read and the pictures he'd studied. Still, the effect of the Great Hall was not lost on him. He just wore a pleased smile more than a nervous grimace. The rusty haired boy watched the other students go up, offering a wink here or there at random girls at the nearby tables. Because of his parentage, he was left to go near the end of the whole line up so he was left to fiddle his thumbs until his name was called. It felt like forever until his name was called. He smiled and bounded up to the stool, slamming the hat on his head with vigour. A laugh sounded in his head for only a moment before the hat yelled out Ravenclaw. As he made his way toward the table of his new house, he offered a few more winks to a cute girl and a few guys. This was going to be a fun year! Heck, a fun seven years! |
