Attendance: David Huff, Bill Wallis, Jessy Morrison, Tracey Clark-Worrall, Sharon Permack, Christine Apostol, Nancy Briggs, Lena Mascarin, Gary Gingras, Nicole Fisher, Bill Klement, Zenia Klement, Marilyn Horn, Karyn Geeza, Suzanne Gagnon, Brigitte Veith On Skype: Mike Borgh, Tara Beharry, Carol Cook, Chantal, Iris Edelman Facilitators: Dave Huff, Bill Wallis Secretaries: Jessy Morrison, Tracey Clark-Worrall Whiteboard: Lena Mascarin Snacks: donated by Bill Wallis Bill Wallis opened with a discussion regarding the goals of the meeting: 1. Defining interest in forming an Ontario Association of BodyTalk 2. Determining structure of such an association 3. Discussing what members would like to gain from the formation of an association Bill shared his interpretation of what an Association could bring to the currently fragmented BodyTalk community in Ontario: 1. Focused intent 2. Strengthening of the IBA matrix as well as the local one 3. Create legitimacy and credibility for Body Talk with recognition in Gov’t and Insurance agencies Dave presented an overview of the Matrix session John performed at the Treatment Intensive class held in Toronto in September, 2010. Dave stated that he has a recording of the session if anyone would like to arrange access to it.(Just email Dave at dave@thematrixmaster.com) John's comments included: - there has been no dynamic matrix in place in Ontario - several fragmented matrices exist but there is no cohesion - a fundamental problem is the complete lack of support for existing instructors - he discussed the concept of tensegrity (all parts supporting all others), therefore, the importance that the work not be left to only one person - the importance of every member contributing and taking initiative to create unity: "it's not about waiting to be asked but calling up and asking what can I do to help move this forward" - John set in motion a formula between practitioner's and their support of each other - within Ontario there has been no effective communication going on between members There were three action items or catalysts that John defined in his session in order to form the Ontario matrix and anchor it: 1. need to create a name (doesn't need to be official but merely a working title to start) 2. create a physical identity for the public (and members) to relate to. i.e. create a logo or visual Image to wear on shirts, promo items, letterhead etc. so it will be approved of by other groups (massage, naturopathy, chiro etc) 3. hold a meeting (which we did today!) John created the Ontario matrix as a secondary matrix to the IBA with John and Esther as matrix holders. This represents a different personality within the role of the IBA. The discussion then moved to a brainstorming session to determine: What would make an Association of value to members? Ideas presented: - structure and identity (both internally and externally) - the ability for practitioners to effectively communicate between one another - to aid in referral of clientele when needed - to strengthen recognition of “What is BodyTalk” by the general public - access information for students and newcomers - mentoring and study groups -nurturing - promotion/advertisement - exchanges (sessions) - support of the whole BodyTalk umbrella - Animal Talk, Life Sciences - the ability to pool resources and skills, networking with each other - professional development - support of events - uses current technology (ie. Website, Facebook, Linked In) - work toward government and insurance recognition - more promotion (no cost communication of public talks, events etc) vs advertising ( in magazines at cost) for public visibility - cost comes more from time and effort given rather than money or fees - unity – active involvement - recognition by Gov’t/ insurance coverage/ Continuing education credits In determining structure, certain items were raised as important factors: - a clear vision, mission and defined roles - regular rotation of roles - an extension of the IBA - includes ALL of Ontario - unity, familiarity and a common cause, therefore, regular meetings - the efforts remain specific to the association's vision and members to avoid duplication - the possibility of registering as a "not for profit' organization - legal req. of an assoc Initial Action to get the ball rolling was determined to include: Action 1. An initiative to reach all members to find out what would make this association of value to them. It was decided that this should be taken up by all present to utilize their contact lists to reach those who were not in attendance. Feedback can be posted on a message board created by Mike Borgh: http://s4.zetaboards.com/Ontario_BodyTalk/index/ Also a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_143106342403539 These message board will be a way for all of us to stay in touch and communicate comments and concerns regarding the formation of an Association. Action 2. A sub-committee (David Huff, Bill Wallis, Nicole Fisher) was put in place to work the verbiage and structure to launch a Contest to come up with a logo design. The logo will represent the IBA and something unique to Ontario. The trillium was mentioned as being a possible choice to include in the design. This message will then be forwarded to members, who can then forward to clients etc, to request submissions for design. This will create a “buzz” (free publicity) about BodyTalk to the general public as well as internally. These three will meet Tuesday Nov 9 at 3 PM and notify us of contest inof by Saturday midnight EST Nov 13. Action 3. A vote was then held to determine the working name of the Association: Ontario BodyTalk Association (OBA) was the winner. Wrap up: The next meeting will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 10am -12pm at the Scott Family Chiropractic office (8 Lansdowne Ave, Woodbridge). We will discuss the logo contest, we will all contact those who wish to come. We will build on the spirit of what we can do for the Association, and we shall continue refining and clarifyoing these points of what an Assoc means to us. Prioritize in order of importance so we can decide where our initial initiative of value must be. We will also work on structure of the OBA. We are also looking for people who are experienced in using Facebook Twitter Linked-in etc and can volunteer time. Notes of interest: Dr. Diane Chung presenting a Community Group Session Nov 18th Dave coordinating a session of Access for Cherie Lena cordinting a Feb access class Access in Ottawa in Feb Give us more…. The following practitioners are being notified of the minutes if there is someone you know should be included please email Jessy at innerki_energy@rogers.com or forward your copy to them. We welcome all ideas, to make communication within our association a success. If anyone else wishes to contribute to the next meeting n person or by skipe please have them contact us either by email, the message board, the facebook page or the IBA Forum.
