The meeting was opened at 10:00am with a welcome introduction of everyone present as well as those joining on Skype. However technical difficulties abounded so meeting began late. Location: Scott Chiropractic 8 Lansdowne Avenue, Woodbridge, On L4L 2A9 Those remaining in Attendance: David Huff (Barrie/Toronto), Bill Wallis (Wodbridge), Jessy Morrison (Barrie), Lena Mascarin (Vaughan & Aurora), Gary Gingras (BTCentral), Nicole Fisher (Newmarket), Karyn Geeza (Sudbury), Brigitte Veith (Richmond Hill) On Skype: Carol Earle, Chantal Spleiss (Switzerland), Diannah Benson (Bracebridge), Nancy Croth (Waterloo), Judy Archer (Orillia), Marcia Riberio Facilitators: Dave Huff Secretary: Jessy Morrison Snacks: donated by Bill Wallis To be Actioned by: After 40 minutes of skipe technical difficulties the meeting began There were no questions or concerns regarding the last meeting minutes There were three action items or catalysts that John defined in his session in order to form the Ontario matrix and anchor it: 1. need to create a name (doesn't need to be official but merely a working title to start) 2. create a physical identity for the public (and members) to relate to. i.e. create a logo or visual Image to wear on shirts, promo items, letterhead etc. so it will be approved of by other groups (massage, naturopathy, chiro etc) 3. hold regular meetings John created the Ontario matrix as a secondary matrix to the IBA with John and Esther as matrix holders. This represents a personality within the identity known as the International BodyTalk Association -complete OBA Ontario Body Talk Assoc -in process see Topic 1 This is meeting number 2 Topic 1: 1.Logo designs were looked at and commented on. The design submitted by Diannah Benson met with the most approval. Incorporating the map outline of the province of Ontario and the international body talk logo has the greatest potential to identify what the IBA is about as well as symbolize the hoped for initiative of practitioner unity in Ontario, Another idea is perhaps the Ontario crest in the center of the IBA man as a heart 2.Problem identified: logo in format unreadable by most peoples PC’s Chantal will try to format this image or scan into a jpeg format and post on message board for viewing. 3.The collective can then email this to some designers who wish to trade services and see if we can get a professional logo to use Jessy to email Chantal’s scan to some local artists.(Susanne, Patrick, Paul & Donna) Bill to send to George Brown college 4.Logos should be emailed to Dave Huff b Monday Dec 6 to post on to message board 5.Other logo ideas still welcomed by collective before January meeting. Topic 2: Physical Structure of OBA: Executive positions - talk about - plant seeds - select Further discussion next meeting Topic 3: Reasons again clarified as to why an association of Body Taker practitioners in necessary in Ontario 1. to strengthen matrix – the stronger we are as a body the more force we have to make change and cohesively get insurance coverage for our clients which in turn increases revenue for practitioners and to become a credible force to be recognized by Insurance companies, Corporations and other associations 2. Nurture new Body Talk practitioners with skills of established practitioners, and make it easy to belong toe the association 3. support our instructors and fill classes 4. give the public a location to get info from and see all the BT activities happening First steps that need to happen: Summary: 1. becoming visible in a webpage 2. nurturing skills of new practitioners/students 3. leveraging partnering 4. increase visibility to Insurance Firms , Corporation Wellness Packages and Practitioner Insurance 5. make it easy to belong to the assoc and get value.Get practitioners in 3. Set up a home page with links to BTCentral for public awareness that automatically includes all new practitioners and Access Technicians in mail outs and news. So that those practitioners in remote areas feel a part of the OBA and derive benefit from the OBA also Chantal to create a home page with Dave and Nicole to give info on free blog 2&.3 Note:Quebec Alliance in Hull is believed to get insurance coverage perhaps thru the Natural Therapists Assoc. Others commented that they believe this is misinformation: Suspect Naturopaths, RMTs etc are putting their BT sessions thru their assoc. billings? Create an assoc to leverage partnering Brigitte to investigate and report at next meeting 4. Get all BT practitioners to get insurance liability and practitioner so that we become a critical mass “Natural Practitioners of Canada Assoc of Alberta offers general insurance, malpractice insurance and promote your practice too for Reiki EFT Body talk and other natural healing modalities. However they are not recognized in Ontario. Is there an assoc like that here in Ontario? Need someone to investigate this and report at next meeting. 5. Get practitioners involved. Low cost but high return on value. What do practitioners need to have an assoc serve them? What pet projects motivate them Cancer, volunteering…. Initiatives only work of somebody drives it. Inspired empowerment. Practitioners to take action. there are 60 CBP’s and 30 standard members so far in Ontario, hundreds of Access technicians and others who have take n courses but do not practice professionally. Many hands make light work. How to get people interested to build support and momentum? Sign ‘em up automatically upon training? Draw in the flock so it is a force to be reckoned with. Need to develop structure and a reason for them to join. Perception is the issue Gary asked is the association for the practitioners or client? Collective said the points are not mutually exclusive they must be in tandem. Promoting activity in Ontario both simultaneously involves attracting new clients and supports current structures to fill classes, and spread word of BT activities taking place in individual communities and the entire province. Notices must be sent that compile into a downloadable format to be posted in clinics. Noted that BT Central has the ideal web presence for clients Nancy suggested an annual local conference to get practitioners together Collective decided on General Meeting date in new year: Sunday Jan 30th 10-1 meeting 1-4 Pot luck lunch, session exchange and topics of discussion from Module1 & 2 for up to 30 people, more than 30 will move it to a hotel (location to be decided). Everyone to individually invite the other 90 practitioners to join us on : Sunday Jan 30th 10-1 meeting 1-4 Pot luck lunch/or BYOL, session swap and topics of discussion from Module1 & 2 at Scott Chiropractic Karen suggested a letter driving practitioners towards joining the assoc as a vehicle for insurance recognition and who would be interested in creating a steering committee. Suggested a similar questionnaire to Christina Pastel’s survey that was posted on zeta board be sent. Also WIIFM “what’s in it for me” ideas Include in letter a Mission statement, vision, an objective in selecting the executive. Asked if we could have BT Central data base –no illegal due to privacy act but he can put it in newsletter. Karen will comile a contact list from her previous classes Karen to draft letter with Nancy and send to other meeting attendees for suggestions and approval, then send to Gary for posting in BT Central Newsletter Members voted on would be interested in creating a steering committee. Chantal: IT Nancy, Jessy, Brigitte, Karen all volunteered Use forum, email and telephone to contact each other and bounce ideas and concepts throughout the month not just at meeting dates Mentioned that many corporations are opting out of insurance because it too costly and reimbursing their employees directly. More on this to follow. Ask clients who they work for and may we contact HR departments or supervisors to help employees beat sress. Therefore the assoc as a group can go to corporations for practitioners Need volunteer committee to drive this Topic 4: Vision & Mission To be discussed next general meeting Jan 30 Voted that past President title be given to Cherie Carpenter Karen to bring laptop for taking future minutes Karen Need RSVP from members to prepare location details All members to contact people to attend by skipe or in person Wrap up: The next meeting will be held on Sunday, Jan 30 10am -412pm at the Scott Family Chiropractic office (8 Lansdowne Ave, Woodbridge). We will discuss the logo contest, we will all contact those who wish to come. We will build on the spirit of what we can do for the Association, and we shall continue refining and clarifying these points of what an Assoc means to us. Prioritize in order of importance so we can decide where our initial initiative of value must be. We will also work on structure of the OBA. We are also looking for people who are experienced in using Facebook Twitter Linked-in etc and can volunteer time and effort We are looking for others to begin mini-committees and driving forces for pilot progects - wellspring Notes of interest: Dave coordinating a session of Access for Cherie on December 11 – they need more students to fill class. Lena is coordinating a Feb Aaccess class Access in Ottawa in Feb…. Give us more…. The following practitioners are being notified of the minutes if there is someone you know should be included please email Jessy at innerki_energy@rogers.com or forward your copy to them. We welcome all ideas, to make communication within our association a success. If anyone else wishes to contribute to the next meeting in person or by skype please have them contact us either by email, the message board, the facebook page or the IBA Forum. |
