I have been in many servers in my minecraft days, and I think some type of jobs can help this server.
Upon joining you chose a primary job. This job somehow benefits the server.
Here are some jobs I thought of below.

Builder: Builds houses, roads, Mine shafts, ponds, ect. Pay: 1 gold for Small Project ::: 5 gold for Medium project ::: 10 for Large project

Miner: Mines ores such as coal, iron, and diamond. Pay: 1 gold for 64 Coal ::: 5 gold for 64 Iron ::: 10 Gold for 64 Diamond

Woodsman: Chops down trees. Pay: 1 gold for every 2 stacks of Wood

Blacksmith: Builds weapon, Turns ore into ingots, makes buckets, glass, and smooth stone. Pay: 1 Gold for every 64 glass/stone :: 1 gold for every 5 swords, buckets, ingots

Storekeeper: Runs a store and sells the meat, feathers, seeds, ingots, buckets, glass, smooth stone, and wood received by the resource gathers. Pay: Given 1 support money for every sale

Military: Kills chickens, cows, pigs, zombies, and anything that walks. (except for people lol) Pay: 1 gold for every 64 stack of meat, wool, leather

Crop gatherer: Gathers crops for the Farmers. Pay: 1 gold for two reed 64 stacks or 10 wheat :: 5 gold for every 10 stacks of reed, or 30 wheat :: 10 gold for 20 stacks of reed, or 60 Wheat

Farmer: Plants the crop stuff. Nuff said Pay: 1 gold for two reed 64 stacks or 10 wheat :: 5 gold for every 10 stacks of reed, or 30 wheat :: 10 gold for 20 stacks of reed, or 60 Wheat

Transportation managment: Manages minecart transportation, and boat transportation Pay: Government funded 5 gold bars for a good job

Economy Management: Basically the people who pays everone. (Admin only) Pay: 1 gold bar for every payment made.

Police: Arrest grievers, thieves, manage disputes among citizens, and watch suspicious activity. Pay: 5 gold for every argument settled :: 10 gold bars for every criminal caught/stopped

Medic: Supplies food to miners, fighters, and woodsmen when needed. Pay: 1 gold bar for every person healed

Citizen: Sits on his lazy ass and eats potato chips. Pay: Nothing

Renegade: Does everything he can do. Pay: Depends on what he does

Water/Lava Managment: Supplies water to farmers and miner. Pay: 1 gold bar for every person helped.

Explorer: Walks around in search for good spots for towns, mines, trees, farms, and animal laundering. Pay: 1 gold for every 5 jobs well done.

Leaders for every job: The leaders lead the people under them to do there job correctly and efficiently Pay: There job payment +5 gold bars for every job

People can have multiple jobs if they want but it might interfere with there work hours/break times

There are some nice ideas, but it isn't up to me. It's up to the rest of the MineRP community.

I guess we could do this. But don't bind people to one job, let them switch if they want. Because personally I like to play minecraft because there is so much to do. If I was bound to only chopping trees, I'd get bored pretty quick :P So if we make a good system, we could make this work ;)

Jobs work best when they're all working toward a common goal.

Building a minecart transport system, a large city, or any other project one at a time is important. If everyone goes off and constructs their own project, the projects will be slow going and end up rather lame. I think that we should have a large main project that most everyone can agree on to help us band together.

I can just imagine a woodsman player going around collecting trees, starting to get bored, then someone types "I need more wood for the furnaces so I can make more glass!" Then they get right back to collecting trees. Essentially, like an ongoing mission for them to do their job.

Then again, with the way the economy is set up, everyone seems to want to do the work in exchange for specific goods. The economy and trading system really is stifling construction of anything. If there was a massive project that everyone would enjoy simply for the sake of enjoying it, they'd really want to work together simply for the sake of finishing the project, rather than for an item reward.

Good stuff man but you have to under stand this is just a rough draft.
I'm just letting this stuff fly out of my head in hopefulness that it will contribute
but the thing is you don't have to do you job all the time. you can go do something else and get paid for it.
the thing here is to set up and economy with non-static jobs to add money into the system. for example
I could be a woodsman for 5 minutes and than be a miner. It all depends on what you are giving and how much
it gets you paid.

Getting money for your labor...

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I like playing Minecraft for the construction of awesome stuff, not so much to pile up stuff in a corner.
