The air was eerily chilly... The thick cloud-cover and heavy fog made it difficult to see more than ten feet in front of you. This made it difficult for Brianna to navigate through the ruins. She hated dark, creepy places and she hated the cold. She really didn't want to be here... But she wasn't going to leave until she had caught the Pokemon she was looking for. Her partner, a Riolu, walked next to her, scanning the area for any wild Pokemon by using his aura-sensing abilities. He gazed up at his Trainer, noticing how tense she was due to the chill in the air. A whimper escaped him as he reached up and touched his paw to her hand, gazing at her sympathetically. Brianna glanced down at the little Fighting type and smiled. "Don't you worry, Raylen. I'm sure we'll find one soon." she said with a wink. The Riolu nodded in response. He just wanted to be sure things were alright. The two had been walking for quite some time now. It was daylight out when they had left for the Abandoned Tower, and now... It was too difficult to see any daylight through the clouds and the fog. There must have been some light, or they wouldn't have been able to see. But it sure was dim. The infamous Tower stood over them, reaching up into the sky and disappearing behind the fog, seeming to go on forever. Brianna kept the tall structure in view, trying not to stray too far from it in hopes of locating a specific Pokemon that was known for living in such a place. After another ten-- Or was it twenty?-- Several minutes later, Raylen paused, blinking his ruby red eyes as he stared into the fog suspiciously. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing his attention on his aura, then sensing another nearby. His head bolted upward as he let out a bark, pointing straight ahead before running off in said direction. "Good boy!" Brianna hurried along behind him, doing her best to keep up with the energetic Pokemon. When she did catch up with him, he was standing before the very Pokemon they had been hunting. The little white Psychic type reached one of it's tiny paws up to rub it's round head that looked as though it were covered by a green helmet with red horns sticking out of the front and back. This "helmet" covered it's eyes, but it could still see the Riolu standing before it quite clearly. It tilted it's head curiously, letting out a soft cry of it's name; "Ralts..?" Brianna wasted no time. She pointed dramatically towards the wild Pokemon and called out, "Okay Raylen, use Quick Attack!" The Riolu let out another bark, then bolted towards the wild Ralts, moving swiftly before tackling the Psychic type and sending it flying back. The Ralts let out a shriek as it fell, then hit the ground with a thud. It laid there for a moment, then began panicking, screaming for mercy. "Ralts! Ra-Ra-Ralts! Raaaaa!" It's cries didn't seem to be carried far, being restrained by the thickness of the fog as though they were all in a large room. Seeing her chance, Brianna reached for a Pokeball, preparing to throw it before taking note of Raylen's defensive stance. She turned her attention back to the injured Ralts, then caught a glimpse of two, glowing red eyes in the fog. A blue glow suddenly enveloped the little Riolu, lifting it high into the air as it let out a frantic whine. The red gaze slowly stepped into view, revealing a slightly taller Pokemon that looked similar to Ralts, only it's eyes were visible, and it's "helmet" looked more like hair. Around it's waist, white flaps stuck out like a skirt, giving it a very docile appearance. However, if looks could kill, Brianna could honestly say she might have been a goner. "A Kirlia!" She grinned from ear to ear, then quickly dropped her smile as she realized the danger her Riolu was in. The Kirlia was obviously using Confusion-- A Psychic type attack. That meant trouble for her little Fighting type. The wild Pokemon lifted it's head slightly, waiting as the small Ralts quickly fled the scene, then it brought it down as it's eyes stopped glowing. Raylen was lifted higher into the air, then slammed into the ground, sending dirt and rocks flying all around. The Riolu groaned as it strained to get back to it's feet, it's body shaking. Brianna took a step towards her Pokemon. "Are you okay, Raylen?" she asked, panic peppering her tone as she gazed down upon the hurt Riolu. Raylen finally succeeded in standing, balancing itself before glancing back at it's Trainer and nodding. With a small sigh of relief, Brianna turned her sights back to the Kirlia. "Okay, change of plans. Raylen, use Quick Attack on Kirlia!" She ordered. The Riolu barked and obeyed, rushing out to attack the other Pokemon. The Kirlia, obviously caught off guard, took the attack head-on, stumbling back as it cried out. It fell over, laid there for a moment, then started to get back up. But Brianna had other ideas. She hastily threw the Pokeball, hitting the Kirlia and drawing it into the orb with a red light. The center of the ball continued to glow as it shook once, then stopped... It shook twice, then stopped... And then-- POP! The wild Pokemon broke free of the Pokeball. It stared at the Trainer and her Pokemon with newfound anger, infuriated by the attempts to catch it. It's red gaze began to glow once more as it sets it's sights on Raylen. "Whoa! Raylen, get moving!" Brianna called out, but the Riolu was already in motion. It leaped around, moving closer and closer to the Kirlia, but that only made him an easy target. The wild Psychic type caught the Fighting type within the grasp of it's mind, then hurled him into a large rock nearby. That one hurt. The Riolu was struggling to get back up, wobbling as it tried to get it's own two feet to support the weight of it's tired body. Brianna knew he wouldn't be able to take much more of this... She narrowed her eyes and clenched her teeth, sizing up the situation. She didn't want to risk fainting the other Pokemon, but at this point her own Pokemon's health was at stake. After arguing with herself for a moment or two, she came to a decision. "Raylen, use Bite!" Raylen leaped back up, not willing to go down as long as his Trainer was still giving commands. He ran towards the Kirlia, opening his jaws wide as he neared his target, then clamping down on it's arm. The wild Pokemon let out a cry of pain, pulling back on it's arm and trying to break free of the Riolu's teeth. "Alright, let it go!" Brianna called out, then quickly threw another Pokeball. Raylen released the Kirlia from it's muzzle and leaped back, watching as the wild Pokemon was once again drawn into the orb by a red glow. The ball shook a couple of times, then stopped... It shook some more, then stopped... Shook again... And then... A shimmer of light that looked like stars burst forth from the center of the Pokeball, indicating that the Pokemon had been caught. Brianna let out a squeal of sheer delight and rushed over to the ball, picking it up and holding it high in the air. "Yes! I caught a Kirlia!" she shouted with a bit too much enthusiasm. Even so, her Riolu stood by her, cheering along as it danced in circles before falling over. When her cheers finally died, Brianna quickly knelt down next to Raylen, placing the now-filled Pokeball on her belt. "Come on, you did a good job and you deserve some rest." She lifted the hurt Riolu and carried him away in her arms. |
