STATS AND LEVELS SYSTEM I. INTRODUCTION Here on Paper Moon we use a stats and levels system to represent the physical strengths, weaknesses, and capabilities of each individual wolf. No wolf is perfect - this system will make sure of that. But the last thing we want to look at this as is a bad thing. The purpose of the stats and levels system is not to downgrade your wolf or harshly damper on what they can or cannot do; rather, it is a fair representation of skill rewarded by experience and capability divided into different areas. This ensures that every wolf has something to offer and some room to grow. The Stats portion of this system is fairly simple. The fields for stats are Strength, Swiftness, Endurance, and Resilience. Every wolf's stats are distributed from 100%, no matter the skill or age. So for example, a wolf can have 50% Strength, 10% Endurance, 25% Swiftness, and 15% Resilience - which when added up totals to 100%. A wolf's stats, as entered in their profiles, will never exceed 100% when counted up, which also means they will never change from the moment you create your wolf. Now the Levels portion is what creates the skill measurement and improvement factor. The three areas a wolf can level in are Hunting, Combat, and Discernment. Here's when things get a little tricky. Stats, on their own, hardly represent how talented the wolf is - it is Levels that do. But that isn't to say that Stats don't make a wolf skilled! For example, a wolf who is a Level 4 Hunter that has a decent percentage of Swiftness puts that Swiftness to use better than a Level 1 Hunter who has a higher percentage of Swiftness. But maybe that Level 1 Hunter is also a Level 5 in Combat while the Level 4 Hunter is a Level 2 in Combat, so in terms of fighting, that same Level 1 Hunter puts their stats to better use than the Level 4 Hunter and is a superior warrior by far. (If you don't understand yet, this will be expanded on more - don't worry!) So in short, "Stats" are more representative of raw capability, but without 'skills', or "Levels", potential is just that - potential. • • • • II. STATS A wolf's stats are recorded in percentages. As mentioned in the Introduction, total stats as recorded in the profile will never exceed 100%. They will also never change from the moment you create your wolf. Stats represent a wolf's physical strengths and weaknesses but do not necessarily represent how talented they are skill-wise in terms of hunting and fighting. The four stats are Strength, Swiftness, Endurance, and Resilience. Strength defines the capable execution of physical power. Swiftness defines speed, agility, and the efficiency of motion. Endurance defines stamina and the ability to travel long distances without tiring. Resilience defines both long and short-term ability to tolerate physical distress. Also represents immunity to illness and injury. The maximum percentage for one field is 75%. The minimum is 5%. So a wolf can have no higher than 75% of one stat and no lower than 5% of one stat. Stats are measured in 5% increments only. • • • • III. LEVELS Levels are a measurement of a wolf's skills. Unlike Stats, these change through improvement. The highest level a wolf can obtain in any one field is Level 10. The amount of levels at your disposal during the creation of a wolf depends on how old they are. Here are the allotted levels upon character creation based on age: Pup (Under 1 Year) = 0 Levels One Year = 3 Levels Two Years = 4 Levels Three Years = 5 Levels Four Years = 6 Levels Five Years + = 7 Levels If you create a pup, they will be given 3 additional levels when they reach a year old. However, no other ages will get additional levels from becoming a year older. With the exception being the Pup-to-Yearling bonus, the only way to get additional levels is through posting. You may improve one Level in one field of your choice every 40 In Character posts. The Three Different Skills In a nutshell, the system works like this: the higher the level the wolf is, the more skill they hold. For the Hunting skill, a wolf's Level will tell them what kind of prey they can hunt successfully. For the Combat skill, a wolf's Level will tell them how experienced they are in fighting, and therefore whether or not they will be able to defeat their opponent (which includes non-prey NPC animals). The Discernment skill is not as cut-and-dry as the other two, for Discernment represents many things, but mostly the qualities of leadership, strategy, and efficient decision making. The Discernment skill is also an assistant to the other two skills. Determining capability based on the Hunting and Combat Levels is simple math. A Level 6 Hunter is better than a Level 3 Hunter. However, two Level 3 Hunters working together are just as efficient as a Level 6 Hunter working alone. The same goes for Combatants. A Level 6 Combatant will without a doubt defeat their Level 3 opponent. However, two Level 3 Combatants against one Level 6 Combatant equates a fair fight. So determining skill in this case boils down to basic math, and skill can be 'combined' through the presence of multiple parties (wolves do work in groups, don't they?). Please note that a wolf's skills have nothing to do with their pack position. - Hunting Level - - Combat Level - - Discernment Level - • • • • IV. PACK BONUSES |
