Point Idea Hey guys, Not like me to post ideas that often so here I go. I want there to be a system where people get rewarded more for their work. For example, when someone makes a flashy signature they should gain something out of it. When someone makes an animation they should gain something out of it. Now I'm not suggesting that each time someone makes something they gain something. More to the point that, If you create something for someone else then you should gain something. This "Something" should be points, Cash, Whatever. Real life cash? you wish. Seriously though a point system just below your avatar. So basically if you want someone to make you a signature, An animation Etc then they can charge you a price. And we will have a "Banker" who will manage the points. A banker will be a member of staff who can edit the points, and they will keep record of everyone’s points. If there’s a way where a member of staff is NOT needed, then applications for a banker will be done. If the banker messes up the point system well I'm sure there will be a punishment. If or If not we get this running, after a period of time we could create a VIP section where you have to pay in order to gain access. And there will be a section where if you advertise for the forum, you’ll gain a certain amount of points. For example you make a YouTube video advertising the forum, you gain 100 points. Benefits and disadvantages: Benefits: Members will be encouraged to make work for others. Members will want to start their own "shops" Members will want to start advertising in order to gain points Overall the experience should be fun. Disadvantages : This system needs to be carefully looked after. People could beg or argue about the price someone places. Solution to the disadvantages: 1) The system can be looked after by more than one person. 2) The banker will be given a role to make sure prices aren't ridiculous. Why didn't I post this in staff forum? Well simple, I wanted you guys to contribute. If you think these ideas completely stupid please post below. Any comments will be taken into consideration. THIS IS JUST AN IDEA FROM ME. This is the first time staff will be reading this. |

It's a good idea, but getting access to a vip section is quite worthless. We need better ways to spend these points. |

Why not just add a thanks/reputation system? Same idea, less complicated. |

We had the Reputation on this forum. But people (me) used it too much. |

As skyline said a reputation system would just make people abuse it. And new members will start spamming and acting rather stupid in order to gain attention. And better way to spend these points. Well people could use them in order to throw competitions. So whoever wins they donate their points to the winner, but theres an entrance fee or something. Please throw in your ideas! Well it's a good idea, it'll probably be alot of fun and it will inspire members to help the forum. But it's the complications we may encounter, and the effort it will take to set up and maintain. You've gone through most of the possible problems but what about possibilities such as someone trying to cheat for points? CheatEngine and such programs would easily be able to do so if the system has little to no security. *E: And of course, there will always be ways to exploit the point system. Cheat engine needs the actual figure to be changed in order to "hack" it. But it only works for flash programs as it temporarily switches it. So that isn't a problem. And obviously a banker will need to keep a record somewhere else. Edited by MopxD, 15 Dec 2011, 07:31 PM.

Okay. I'm strongly for this idea. The forums needs a bit of a change anyway in my opinion. |

I really like this idea. I mean, it will certainly take some effort from everybody to get the system all neat and polished, and to even get it started, but this project would definitely liven up the place. I like how it'll get members to contribute more to the forum, and how generally, members will be more active. The problem with the rep system was that people gave rep simply just cause. It usually wasn't for any specific deed, and people would end up with 200+ rep points, and would always brag about it. I remember when Yong had like ~237 rep points. I mean, it's cool how so many people appreciated him, but I felt less important because I only had around 37--point is that it became a race for points, and I do believe that it worked as a force that may have caused some resentment from members with less points towards members with more points... and possibly gloating from members with lots of points to people with few. Whether what I say is accurate or not, all I'm trying to say is to make sure that the system doesn't lead to people getting tons of points simply because they are known better or they are 'cool,' or only because they sell a lot of their time and work to people in order to get points for their own selfish needs. I'd like to see a point system that doesn't reward members for being point whores, and instead rewards those who actually HELP the forum out, NOT for the sake of /looking good/ or getting some /reward/, BUT for the sake of helping out the forum. To do this, you'd probably need the approval of several, unbiased people in order to reward somebody points. They'd need to decide 1) if the action helps out the forum or another member (NOT just a close friend or a buddy, but perhaps somebody they don't know too well--preferably a new member) 2) If the action is righteous and is not done simply for points but to help out the forum and be nice Those are some of the basic tenets that I believe would be very important for such a point system. I really like the idea, so I'm just hoping that this might get implemented. We could use this very much--and as long as the system isn't corrupted by point-hungry trolls and kids, I think this will work. I think I might be a valuable asset to this system as well, if you know what I mean. ;) |

I totally agree with the first point I bolded, I'd love to see a system where people spend their time in order to help other members and contribute more to the forum. This idea is a great encouragement for that. I was really hoping this would encourage people to open shops, start competitions, advertise outside of the forum (They must provide evidence) I will make specific rules in which they have to follow and make sure everyone agrees with them. Thanks for your contribution Fang! |

I'll have to see. For right now my plan is I get the general code and test it out, and then see if we can add on the specific features from there if we can. |
