My Suggestions Concerning the Future of Pivot_Forum; Long, but I feel like I make some good points.

:P

Seeing as there is quite a bit of controversy concerning the future of Pivot_Forum, I figured I would write a post giving my opinion on the matter.

First of all, the main thing that concerns me at the moment is that there seems to be this idea that changing the name of the forum will somehow magically attract more members by itself. This could not be farther from the truth. People who come to Pivot_Forum generally discover us through other pivot community sites, or by Googling "Pivot Forum" which yields us as the first result. Therefore, I would argue that changing the name would have an adverse affect on the traffic the site receives. Keeping the name for the affiliation with sites like DD and Droidz and for the current #1 rank for the Google search "Pivot Forum" will continue to aid our growth, however slowly it may be.

Changing our name and URL to something more reminiscent of a general art forum would would have immediate adverse effects on our traffic by immediately eliminating those two crucial sources of new members. Googling "Art Forum" or something along those lines will result in hundreds of more popular sites above ours. Even changing our name to something more specific like "Crafty Tavern" will result in at least a few results being ahead of ours, not to mention the fact that, when looking for an art forum, nobody's first instinct is to Google "Crafty Tavern". We would have to rely on MUCH more direct forms of advertisement such as plugging the site on social media outlets.

Aside from this, many old members, namely Gripps and myself, have strong nostalgic feelings toward "Pivot_Forum" and it provides a reminder of the forum's roots. However this is obviously a subjective reason.

This is not to say that I don't support a more general artistic approach to Pivot_Forum, I definitely do and I have been making the suggestion myself for quite a while.

Here are changes I think should be made:
-New, more colorful, brighter default theme (possibly similar to Droidz?)
-New, more friendly banner banner without stickfigure that displays a more all around artistic feel (possible contest?)
-Remove Via Domus Gray from Themes
-Merge all pivot rank forums, into one general Animation forum (much like Droidz has done, removing ranks)
-Remove graphics board and replace with "Artwork" for still hand-drawn and computer draw art (this should be placed in the same category as "Animation"
-Move the Media forum, under the same category as "Animation" and "Artwork" for people to post any video or music work they have done.
-Replace the old media forum (and move all topics) with "Media Discussion" where people can talk about favorite music, what they're listening to, TV shows etc
-Possibly remove the market place altogether (I don't know how well it's doing, so I may not have a good read on this one)
-Remove Stick Sharing/
-Change board descriptions to be more relevant to general art.

These changes, I feel, will have a positive effect on our member count and activity. Members will no longer feel intimidated by animation ranks and will not feel alienated when they lose their passion for Pivot. Furthermore, we keep the advantage that our name and affiliation with the pivot community provides. And most importantly we keep THIS community together, no splitting because of some silly name change or new forum or other bullshit.

I know I don't post very much, but this place has been like a second home to me for the last five years and you guys have always been awesome, I hope you will consider these points.

Goodbye, P_F!
Very well put Cluny. Very analytic with the name change subject.

I like and agree with many points you made, but still I am unsure about the forum's future.
I don't know what to put here. :C
