A long, tiring boat trip apparently tired nineteen-year old boys, who came all this way just to start out his life of being his own person to fend for himself. These old, mossy ruins were able to grab his attention immediately, and he figured it would be alright to rest there. Although he had no Pokémon just yet, he felt pretty safe for the most part. The ghost Pokémon didn't seem to even want to bother with him, and went on their way, just like the bug types did. Seeing as it was late at night, hardly any were out, except for the Kricketots and Kricketunes, who were mainly focused on making their music to occupy the surrounding woods. These sounds weren't helping the boy much. They actually were lulling him to sleep, if anything. Running his gloved fingers through his dark violet hair, he tried to think of where his next destination would be. His mind was fuzzy, and his brown eyes wouldn't stay open for long. He immediately rubbed his eyes, to make sure that he would stay awake. Maybe it'd be best to be on the lookout for his first Pokémon. The thought struck him in an unpleasant way, however. How was he going to catch a Pokémon, if he didn't own one to damage it? This caused the boy to shake his head, a determined gleam in his eyes. "I'm going to catch a Pokémon, and nothing will stop me." He stated, still sitting on some stones from the ruins. When there's a will, there's a way, at least for this particular boy. Something suddenly peeked his interest. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see some sort of shadow. The moon glistened against the figure it was coming from, and the creature looked pretty lost, for the most part. The boy eyed it carefully. Maybe this could be it? He couldn't tell what it was, though... Crouching, he started to move closer to figure it out. The boy made sure to be very quiet, because he didn't want to scare it. 'What is that...?' He thought to himself. 'It looks like a miniature Gengar, or something... Is that even possible in the wild?' While he wasn't looking, it seemed that the creature was gone. The boy sighed in shame, for he was pretty sure that he could have caught that Pokémon. Reluctantly, he stood up, looking down at where the shadow used to be. "Well, that was a failure..." He mumbled to himself. "Maybe I should try something else..." As he started to check out other areas of the ruins, he had no idea that he was being followed by something small and familiar. ------- Hours had passed, and the boy was getting drowsier and drowsier by the second. "Maybe I should stop and rest for the night..." He suggested to himself. "It may be for the best, anyways..." Once he found a soft patch of grass, he took out supplies such as a large blanket and a small buildable tent. It took a while to set up, but it was for shelter, and was worth it. Tiredly, he made his way inside. A small Pokémon peeked at the entrance, watching him fold the blanket over himself and remove the goggles placed on his head, along with his gloves which he placed at his side. "Cleffa?" The Pokémon tilted its head in curiosity, and was really eager to meet the strange human boy. Once he was all set to sleep, he rested his head, forgetting that he left the tent open a bit. The oddly colored Cleffa made its way inside, and hobbled over to the boy's face. "Fa?" It kept a small smile on its face, and poked the boy's nose. It crinkled up, and he turned over. The Cleffa blinked. Then, it had an idea. Without even thinking or holding back, the Cleffa hopped onto the boy's head, but he still didn't wake up. He slightly groaned and mumbled in his sleep, but there were no further reactions. Cleffa frowned at this. Another idea came up, and it poked his face. Nothing. "Fa..." It sighed, shaking its head. Silently it crept over to the other side, where he was facing as he was curled up. "Fa..." It didn't take until morning for the boy to notice. ------- "GAAH!" He hollered, tumbling and having the tent fall over. The now visibly dark purple Cleffa giggled, standing on his shoulder. "How the heck did you get in here?!" The boy asked, reaching over and picking the small Pokémon up. Not feeling comfortable with the cramped space anymore, he crawled outside with the Cleffa under his arm, until he took it out again. "Did you follow me all the way here...?" He questioned, the Cleffa giving him an innocent look. The boy sighed. "Please answer me." The Cleffa nodded. "Why did you want to follow me?...." That's when he noticed the odd colors, and remembered the shape of the shadow from last night. He paused. "You're the Pokémon from last night... Aren't you?" Cleffa nodded again. "...You're not going to leave, are you?" Cleffa shook its head. "..." The boy remained silent for a while, and Cleffa just stared with the same innocent look, its beady black eyes somehow reaching the boy's heart. He smiled slightly, and shook his head. "Well, gee, you could have told me sooner instead of freaking me out like that." Cleffa gave him an unamused look. The boy blinked. '...Awkward...' He thought, but then decided to break the silence. "Alright." He said, reaching into his bag to take out a Pokéball. "If you're coming with me, you might as well get into this. It doesn't have to be for the whole time, if you want, I could keep you out of it if you want." Cleffa nodded, and curiously poked the center of the ball. Immediately, once the red light absorbed the Pokémon into the ball, it clicked. "...Well." The boy commented. "That was easy." He picked it up, smiling. "Well, I guess this is the beginning..." He spoke aloud. "Let's get things started." He smirked, sending the Pokémon back out and putting his camp away into his bag. A new journey was about to begin for Carter Rhodes. |
