Was it that different here? Hex thought not. Humans were still everywhere and the boy hadn’t even gotten the hint that a coven dwelled in this area. Not even so much as a wizard or witch to be seen, and that was somewhat saddening, though he couldn’t feel the emotion. The boy walked down the street of Mandora Town, the heavy heels of his boots clacking obnoxiously against the surface. Perched upon his left shoulder was a cattish creature, bearing a sly smile with eyes shut into slits, ears turning two and fro. Around its slim, elongated neck was tied a wispy black piece of cloth, with the red symbol of Hocus’ former coven emblazoned on it.
This was his familiar, or, as humans said, his ‘starter Pokémon’. The boy lifted one hand, and rested it atop the Glameow’s head, stroking the fur there gently as Greymalkin purred and nuzzled his hand with obvious affection, those slitted eyes opening a little wider and twinkling warmly. Already, the trust put in him by the Pokémon was obvious. Greymalkin seemed to know that he was a wizard (despite being one with no powers whatsoever and ostracized from his coven) and adored him all the more for it. Perhaps most feline Pokémon were that way—they felt the intricate bond that tied feline and wizard together.
Suddenly Hex stopped and Greymalkin’s eyes stretched open wide, seeing the youth’s expression—a narrowing of his red eyes, the thinning of his lips; a expression of disapproval. Following his trainers’ gaze, Greymalkin saw a boy, perhaps three years younger than his trainer, bearing a perky red wizards’ hat. In his fingers he held a long stick of ebony wood, sanded down and with a handle at one end; a wand. There was a expression of anger and hatred written over his face, and his red hair seemed to bristle as he clenched the wand tighter.
“Melee,” Hex intoned in a deadpan, lowering the brim of his hat as he approached the boy, stopping in front of him. Greymalkin tensed his body and leapt to the ground, winding around his trainers’ legs and observing the newcomer with pricked ears and a suddenly widened smile.
“Hocus,” the boy who Hex had called Melee spat, narrowing his pale blue eyes. “I knew I’d find you eventually! The Murkrow were right.” He lifted his chin with a cocky smile that Greymalkin had the absurd urge to claw off his smug little face. Hex, meanwhile, had pulled up his sleeve, glancing at his watch. Melee fumed. “What are you doing?! Don’t I get a response?!”
“Does your mother know you’re here? She’ll be worried. You’ll be grounded when you go back to the coven,” was Hex’s monotone reply. He remembered Melee’s mother extremely well—a very protective woman, who valued the red-haired child very much due to the fact he was her only child. At least, her only child she acknowledged. Melee stamped his foot on the ground like a stubborn child who didn’t get his way, and Hex sighed before walking closer to him.
“H-hey! Don’t come any closer or I’ll curse you!”
A twitch on the corners of Hex’s lips showed his nonexistent amusement as he raised one black eyebrow. “You cannot perform curses,” he said, “you are not even apprenticed to one of the higher-level wizards yet. You are still a fledgling. The most you will be able to do is fill my clothes with feathers or jab me in the ribs with your wand.” Lifting a hand, he licked his thumb and brought it to the child’s face, wiping at a smudge of dirt there as Melee screamed with outrage.
“You’re not my brother anymore! Geroff! Geroff!” Melee shouted, but one of the teenager’s arms held his shoulder, his hand cleaning off his younger brothers’ face with patience. Greymalkin twitched his ears, his eyes alit with curiosity. So this…Melee was Hex’s younger brother, was he? The Glameow had thought he smelled something familiar about the boy. Obviously, Melee’s mother was Hex’s as well, though Hex didn’t seem to address her as such. Perhaps she had abandoned him like his coven had?
When he had tore away, red-faced and panting, Melee glared at him and huffed, reaching down for a PokéBall at his waist. “I’m going to beat you in a Pokémon battle!” he declared passionately.
“Your mother is going to be really mad with you,” Hex replied, taking no notice of the boys’ aggression. “You did not tell her at all. I can tell. She is going to take away your Pokémon once she gets here, and you will never be allowed to leave the coven again.”
“Be quiet!” Melee roared and tossed his PokéBall, it cracking open, the red light forming into his Pokémon. Sighing and realizing he’d have to sate his brothers’ desire for battle, Hex gestured elegantly with one hand, and Greymalkin slid forward, purring with a sly, cattish smile on his face.

The pokemon Melee sends out is a small hoothoot. It hoots and settles down infront of its trainer, prepared to battle. Melee awaits you to make the first move.

A Hoothoot, was it? It wasn’t surprising—Melee had never been particularly fond of cat-like Pokémon. Not even when he was a child, back in the coven. He had avoided their mothers’ Meowth like it was going to lunge at him and rip out his heart. Hex narrowed his red eyes, pulling the brim of his hat lower and glancing to Greymalkin, who was pacing back and forth. The cattish smile was still in place as the Glameow settled itself down in front of its trainer, eyeing the Hoothoot without looking too afraid. “Let’s begin, shall we?” Hex commented in an almost offhanded voice while Melee shot him a glare from icy-blue eyes. “Greymalkin, use a scratch attack.”

(must say, I'm impressed with your writing skills. Good job. Keep it up.)
Glameow used it's long tail to lunge itself at the owl Pokemon which flew up to avoid damage, but got some damage. 5 damage to the Hoothoot. It didn't like this too much so it used it's own move. It slammed into Glameow for 4 damage.

- (Oh, thanks. I'll try my best to.)
Hex found himself narrowing his eyes a little at his brother as he folded his arms over his chest, the broad sleeves bunching up. An admirable opponent, for sure. But Hex wouldn’t want to see Melee’s reaction once his mother caught up with him. She’d likely tug off his ear for running away from home. The Hoothoot’s attack had, thankfully, done a bit less damage than Greymalkin’s hand, and that would give him the upper hand. Or at least he hoped so. Tugging absently on a bell that dangled from the brim of his hat, he called out to his familiar—better known as starter Pokémon—and the Glameow’s ears twitched to show he was listening. “Another scratch, but this time, try and use your speed to avoid being hit.” [/color]

(if you ever write a fanfic, I'd read it.=P)
Your starter Pokemon, Glameow, had heard your requests and knew you were wise in choosing the battle style that you had chosen. It did as you asked it to and scratched the owl Pokemon, Hoothoot, again. Once more, it did 5 damage. Hoothoot tried to return the favor by using Tackle again, but Glameow, unlike Hoothoot, had learned from the previous turn and jumped out of the way. Hoothoot's attacked had missed its target.

“Good job, Greymalkin.” Hex’s eyes were focused solely on the battle at hand, and one of his hands was curled into a fist, his rings clinking together lightly. Praise was not usually given out lightly by the unemotional boy, and Greymalkin’s ears twitched with happiness when he heard it from his trainer. Hex’s red eyes narrowed slightly—it seemed that his Glameow had speed to go along with his strength, and that could be used to a advantage. “Wait for the Hoothoot to come in close for a attack, then dodge it and use your scratch when you get a opening.”

Greymalkin did as you asked, waiting until the hoothoot dove very close to it in a tackle before jumping to the side, scratching it on the way.

“Good job, Greymalkin,” Hex praised the Glameow, pausing briefly. He sure did listen well. Perhaps he felt the loyalty that all familiars did when they were with their wizard. But he had no powers, so he could not be called a wizard. Shaking his head at himself and pushing the thought aside, he assessed the Hoothoot with narrowed eyes. It was trying gallantly to keep battling, but sooner or later he would emerge the victor in this battle. He nodded, once, to himself and lifted his hand, his rings clinking lightly as he pointed at the Hoothoot, speaking to Greymalkin, “Okay, when it comes close to you, this time leap up and land on top of it, using a scratch attack as you do so.”

Glameow waited for Hoot-Hoot to fly towards it and then it jumped in the air and land squarely on the owl. The owl was pinned underneath Glameow's weight and couldn't move. Glameow proceeded to scratch Hoot-hoot.
