Fundraiser #: 1
Type: Book
Target: Moderate and Liberal Democrats, Centrists, Politically Savvy Independents, Political Operatives

The Journey

Chapter 1: The Early Years
This chapter covers the early years of Senator Steven Fisher. It talks of growing up in Council Bluffs during the '60s and '70s. His father was a firefighter and his mother was a nurse. Quote from the chapter: "My father always taught me to never give up. He taught me that no matter what the odds one should always continue forward. My mother taught me that I should care for others. I was given a great many things and that came with a promise to help others who did not have what I had. They both taught me the value of public service."

Chapter 2: College
Covers the college experience of Senator Fisher. During his college years Fisher volunteered for Carter's reelection. He was extremely distraught about the Reagan victory and through out college searched himself about his political identity. It's also where he decided to major in education. Quote from the chapter: "I was extremely upset, I almost wept. We had put in so much time and all for naught. The President had lost to an ancient movie star who had no real policies. That began my wandering in the political darkness."

Chapter 3: Teaching

Covers the years of Senator Fisher teaching high school students. Also covers the early years of his marriage, the birth of his children, and the growth of the Senator as an individual and a political being. Quote from the chapter: "No matter how bad I felt, no matter what had happened the night before or that morning, the second I stepped into the classroom all of my worries faded away. Because there were 30 young men and women yearning to learn. And it was my responsibility to see to that. Some people say that there are kids who don't want to learn. I never met a single one in all of my years in education."

Chapter 4: Educational Leadership
Chapter covers Senator Fisher's years as a principal and school superintendent. At this point in his life he began getting involved in political activities for the Democratic Party in Council Bluffs. Quote from the chapter: "We helped get Senator Harkin reelected and that was a full circle sort political events. With the reelection of the Senator I had helped find my political identity. A middle of the road, moderate Democrat."

Chapter 5: First Political Experience
Chapter covers Senator Fisher's election to the Iowa State Senate. Talks of the Senator's first campaign and his close election to the State Senate. Quote from the chapter: "It was my first speech before a group for my first campaign. To say I wasn't scared would be a lie. I was terrified. But seeing my wife smile and nod I knew that I would do okay and I did. I won that race, though not by much. But I was now an elected official."

Chapter 6: United States Congress
Chapter covers Senator Fisher's election to the United States House of Representatives. It also covers the growth of his marriage and his children. Quote from the chapter: "My wife said I had a phone call. It was the DCCC. They wanted me to run for Congress. I asked if they had the right guy. They said they sure did. They wanted someone to beat the freshman Republican who was on the far right. I told them I had to think about it and I hung up the phone. My wife asked if I was going to run. I asked what she thought. She said go for it the people of Iowa need you. So I ran."

Chapter 7 Senate:
Covers Senator Fisher's election to the United States Senate. Senator Charles Grassley decided to retire and they asked freshman Congressman Fisher to run for Senate. He barely won, but he came out ahead and now was a United States Senator. Quote from the chapter: "My wife, my children and I walked into the Senate Chambers. There were dozens of people there, but I felt the weight of my duty upon me. Finally I was standing before Vice President Cheney. We exchanged words and that's when it really hit me that I was a United States Senator."

Chapter 8 Reelection and the Future
Covers the Senator's massively successful reelection bid in 2008, the 2008 Presidential Election and the future of the Senator. He speculates on a 2012 Presidential run. Quote from the chapter: "I'm not sure what the future holds. It may be a Presidential run, I may just stay in the Senate. But I do know that as long as my wife and children are by my side I know that the future will be as bright as ever."

Fundraiser #: 3
Type: Rally
Target: Liberal Democrats, Independents, Socially Moderate Republicans, the Jobless
Place: Des Moines, IA
Topic: Creating Jobs, not Partisan Politics

"Hello Des Moines how are all of you today? Man it is good to be back here in our state's fine capitol. For those of you who don't know me my name Steven Fisher. I am the current Senate Majority Leader and a proud member of the Democratic Party. I was raised on the western edge of our state in Council Bluffs. My father was a firefighter and my mother a nurse. They taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and public service. That's why I decided to become a teacher. I taught for many years before becoming a principal and superintendent of the schools in Council Bluffs. I helped create jobs and put Council Bluffs of the educational straight and narrow.

In 2004 you kind folks elected me to serve as your United States Senator and for that I'm might humbled and I'd like to thank all of you for that. In my first term I have done everything I could to help create jobs, to get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan and to make America great again. I was successful in some of my endeavorer though not all. But I kept plugging away because the people of Iowa deserve the best leadership in D.C. that they can get. And I made a promise when elected I would represent you all to the best of my ability. And I know you all think I'm doing a good job because just last year you elected me to a second term. Thank you all for that.

When I first came to the Senate I worked closely with Republicans and Democrats who were guided by the sole principal of doing a good job for their constituents and America. But now at a time when unemployment it high, at a time when businesses aren't hiring, now at a time when our schools are failing and our infrastructure crumbling Senate Republicans want to fight the same old tired partisan political fights that I thought had ended in the 1990s.

At a time when the American people are saying loudly that they want jobs when millions of Americans are homeless what was the first sponsored Republican bill? It was an amendment to make gay marriage illegal. My friends regardless of how you feel about gays and their right to marry now is not the time to have that fight. Now is the time when we must buckle down as a nation and pass a budget that reduces the deficit and our national debt. Now is the time for job creation and economic growth. Now is not the time for petty partisan politics or for fighting over minute social issues. The Americans people have sent us to D.C. to help create jobs and stimulate the economy and by God that's what I'm going to do.

But my friends I need your help. I need anything you can donate, but most of all I need you to talk to your friends, your family and your neighbors. Now is not the time for us to wallow in petty political divides. Now is the time to unite as Americans and to accomplish real and great things. So if you believe in me and if you work with me there is nothing we cannot do. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America."

#3 - $210,000.

Good event! You were very specific. You also did a good job of making sure those attending got an earful of what they wanted to hear from you. In the future, you can make even more by telling about the legislation you've ushered through as a senator.

Fundraiser #: 4
Type: Rally
Target: Health Care Workers, Nurses, Doctors, Students
Place: University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City Iowa
Topic: U.S. Healthcare

"Hello Iowa City it's nice to be here with all of you today. My name is Steven Fisher and I am running for President of the United States of America. I have faithfully served Iowa for many years in the House and Senate. I was also a school teacher, principal and school superintendent. Now I come before you asking for your votes and your support. There are so many challenges facing our nation and it's time that we face them head on with true leadership.

One of the biggest challenges facing America is health care. While President Obama Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was an excellent first step. It ensured that all Americans can get health insurance coverage regardless of preexisting conditions. It ensures that you cannot be dropped from your insurance just for being sick. It also allows students to remain on their parents insurance until their 26th birthday. It's a good bill and I applaud President Obama's effort and tenacity in passing this bill.

However, there is much that still needs to be done particularly on the cost side of things. The most important and most effective thing we can do to help keep skyrocketing costs down is a public option. While the state insurance banks are a good idea, they're not as effective in reducing costs as a public option would be. A public option would be far cheaper than any premium offered by an insurance company and by the basic power of the market would drive down costs as competition adapted to compete. As President I will encourage the passage of a public option.

Another cost cutting measure in health care would be malpractice insurance reform. Right now too many doctors are afraid to preform necessary procedures or are paying far too much in malpractice insurance. Doctors go to school for a long period of time, and while accidents do happen they are exceedingly rare in this day and age. No doctor should have to give up his or her practice simply from fear of lawyers. It's time that we passed malpractice insurance reform so that doctors are free to treat people as they see fit.

In the Senate I have fought against cuts in the HHS budget which would negatively affect our nation's hospitals and nursing homes. I believe that the last things we should cut is our health care network and our schools. But that's what Senate Republicans seem intent on doing. I promise you all this that I as long as I am Senate Majority Leader there will be no cuts in essential departments that help the American people.

So if you believe in ensuring that all Americans can get the health care they need. If you believe in a public option. If you believe in malpractice insurance reform. Then I am asking you for your support. Because together we can accomplish fantastic things that will shape the face of this nation. Thank you, God bless you, God bless the United States of America."

Topic: U.S. Education System

Quote:

Hello Friends,

My name is Steven Fisher. I am the current Democratic Senate Majority Leader from the great state of Iowa as well as a contender in the Democratic nomination for President of these United States. I wanted to write to you all today about the challenges that America faces in the coming days.

As you know America's education system is falling apart. Our schools are crumbling, our classrooms are too crowded and our resources too sparse to teach all of the children we need to teach. Things look a little dark. But my friends all hope is not lost. There are still teachers and principals and superintendents out there, just like you, who put in the long hours and the tough days to ensure that our next generation is educated and educated well. And I want to thank you all for you service and dedication and to let you know that your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed.

I also wanted to let you know that you have an ally in me. I was once a teacher, a principal and a school superintendent. I know the joys and the hardships of being a teacher. And as President my first order of duty will be to revamp and overhaul our education system. It's time that teachers got paid more. It's time that our principals and superintendents got paid more too. It's time that we reinvesting in our school infrastructure and supplies. It's time that we established a national Academy of Teaching to train the best and the brightest in our nation to teach the next generation. As President I will accomplish all of these things. But I need your help first. If you can donate $5, $10, $15 anything you can to the Fisher campaign is would be most appreciated. Because together we can get education back on track. Thank you and God bless you.

Respectfully,
Steven Fisher
Senate Majority Leader
