JOBS In these trying economic times, America needs a president who has experience creating jobs in the private sector. As the owner of a real estate development firm, I have created jobs, and contributed to the economy of South Louisiana for thirty years. I understand that America’s small businesses are the backbone of our national economy. As president, I will work with both parties to create tax incentives, and other forms of support for small businesses. I will continue President Obama’s efforts to invest in green technology and green jobs so that we can create the next generation of America’s workforce. Finally, I will work to create job training programs for laid-off workers so that they can learn a new skill in higher paying, more high-tech fields. ABORTION As a Catholic, I personally find the practice of abortion repugnant. However, as long as humans are imperfect, abortion will remain a necessary evil. We should do absolutely everything that we can to eliminate the need for women to have abortions. I support teaching teens about the consequences of unprotected sex, and unplanned pregnancies. I support the over the counter sell of RU486. At the same time, I will support incentives to mothers who choose adoption as an alternative, and I oppose late term abortion except for cases of incest, or unless it is necessary to protect the life and health of the mother. LGBT I support civil unions. At the same time, I believe that the issue of gay marriage should be decided by voters at the ballot box rather than in the halls of Congress. I support giving same sex couples the right to adopt, as well as visitation rights for same sex couples. I supported the repeal of DADT, and have no intention of reinstating it. SECOND AMENDMENT I grew up as a hunter and still hunt from time to time. I also believe that every American has the right to protect his home, and his family. I will always support the Second Amendment rights of Americans. However, I believe we can make common sense changes to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people. As president, I will work to close the Gun Show Loophole and reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban. IMMIGRATION This great melting pot we call a nation was built by immigrants. My great, great grandfather came here to help build the transcontinental railroad. If the Acadians from Nova Scotia had not been forced to immigrate to the US because of British oppression, Louisiana would lack the unique, beloved culture that makes my home state great. I welcome anyone who wishes to come to the United States. However, I do not support illegal immigration. It puts an undue burden on our education and healthcare systems, and harms those who take the time to come here legally. I will strengthen our border security by increasing the number of agents along the Mexican/American border, and ensuring that they have the best tools and equipment that they need to do their jobs well. HEALTHCARE The passage of President Obama’s healthcare bill is a huge step in the right direction. However, more must be done to lower health insurance premiums for working Americans. I support tort reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits with multi-million dollar payouts. I will also work to create competition in the health insurance industry by allowing Americans to purchase insurance across state lines. Finally, I do support a public option to ensure that absolutely no American falls through the cracks. When I’m president, we WILL get that public option passed. TAXES I understand that Americans are hurting economically. There are millions of families in every corner of this great land who are struggling to make ends meet. They last thing those people need right now is a tax hike. That’s why I will work to keep the Bush Tax Cuts in place for every American making $150,000 a year or less. By contrast, I support restoring Clinton-era income tax levels for those making more than $150,000. ENERGY/ENVIRONMENT The BP Oil Spill taught us all how fragile our environment is, and how our addiction to oil can cause it great harm. While I opposed President Obama’s moratorium on Gulf Coast drilling after the incident, I also oppose drilling in ANWR , and an attempts to increase drilling offshore. I will work to increase the research and development of green energy, and increase the number of green jobs. I will also work to create tax incentives for families and businesses leaders who use clean energy sources in their homes and businesses. EDUCATION Giving our children the education that they deserve starts with putting the best and brightest teachers in our classrooms. I will attract the best and brightest teachers to our classrooms by creating tax incentives for any qualified person who believes that education is their true calling. I will work to increase charter schools so that extraordinary students can be challenged the way they deserve to. However, I will never ever abandon our public schools in favor of a school voucher scheme. I will work to reemphasize math and science education so that our high school graduates can remain competitive in our 21st Century economy. Finally, I will work to increase Pell Grants and Stafford Loans so that every American student who wishes to go to college can afford to attend. FOREIGN POLICY President Kennedy once said “Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate.” President Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize because he stressed peaceful negotiation rather than cowboy unilateralism. Like him, I will always work to settle foreign policy disputes with words rather than arms. I am encouraged with recent statements made by President Mubarak in Egypt, and hope he will be an important partner in negotiations to end North Korea and Iran’s nuclear programs. I will strengthen relations with our European and Asian , and Middle Eastern allies to stamp radical Islamic terrorism across the world, and bring Ossama bin Laden to justice. Last, but not least, I will always be a strong supporter of Israel and its struggle for survival. |

Event Number: Event 1 Type: Announcement Speech Location: Baton Rouge, LA Target: Obama Supporters, Murphy Supporters, Conservative Democrats, Clinton Democrats, Centrist Democrats, Moderate Republicans, Moderate Independents, Business-minded Voters, Middle-Class Voters, Lower-Class Voters Good afternoon, folks! It’s great to be back home, and it’s great to be here with all of you. I look out into the crowd, and I see so many familiar faces. I see so many friends that I have known for decades. I wanted to come back here to Baton Rouge to give this speech for that very reason. I wanted to be among my friends and my family on such an important occasion. You were with me when I announced my intentions to run for the state senate, Congress, and the US Senate. That’s why I wanted you here today. I wanted you all to be the first to know that I am announcing my candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. I was among President Obama’s earliest and biggest supporters. When some people were saying that he was too inexperienced, too liberal, even too black to be president, I had a hunch that he had the gravitas, and the ideas to really shake things up in Washington. For the two and a half years of his presidency he sure did shake things up, didn’t he, folks? I wish I could be here to announce that I was endorsing President Obama for reelection. You have no idea how much I do. Yet, Barack Obama was called home early. Now we must keep moving forward. We keep moving forward because the American Dream doesn’t die with the death of a president. It continues to burn brightly in the hearts of all Americans who dream of owning a home, opening a business, or sending their kids to a great college. I’m running for president because I want every American to have a piece of that dream. Yet, that can’t happen when we have an economy that is still sputtering. If we want to fix our economy, our next president needs to be more than just a career politician. We need someone who knows how business works. At the age of 27, I started my own real estate development company called Bayou State Properties. Over the course of the last 30 years, Bayou State Properties has become one of the top real estate development firms in Southeast Louisiana. I know what it takes to build a small business from the ground up. I have created jobs. I want to bring my years of business experience and expertise to the White House so that we can get our economy humming again! This will not be an easy campaign. It will be a long arduous road. If I’m lucky enough to win, the work will get even tougher. Yet, I’m jumping into this campaign because I love this country. I want to continue the great progress started by Barack Obama. I want to ensure that each and every one of you earns that little piece of the American Dream that burns so brightly in our hearts. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America. Event Number: Event 2 Type: Economic Speech Location: Manchester, NH Target: Obama Supporters, Murphy Supporters, Conservative Democrats, Moderate Democrats, Clinton Democrats, Moderate Independents, Small Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, Middle-Class Voters, Lower-Class Voters Hello, Manchester! It’s great to be here today. You know, I spend most of my time between South Louisiana and Washington, D.C. This time of year, the heat and humidity down there are absolutely killer. It’s great to be up here where it’s a little more temperate. I’m just not looking forward to being up here during the winter! Of course, I’m not just here to enjoy the great summer weather. I’m going to spend the next several months traveling through the Granite State to talk to all of you about my plans to keep this great nation moving forward. I don’t have to tell any of you that our nation’s economy has been sick for a while. Our current economic woes began thanks to the misguided economic policies of the Bush Administration. Average folks were left out in the cold while the administration catered to its rich buddies, and tried to usher a new Gilded Age. Thanks to the work of President Obama, we’ve made some progress. Our economy is starting to slowly grow again. However, there is still much to do before we can return to the prosperity of the past. Our next president needs to know how business works, and what kind of support businesses need to be prosperous. Before I started my political career, I owned and operated a real estate development firm in Southeast Louisiana. I started my business in the late 1970’s with a small chunk of cash I had saved up. Today, that small business has grown into one of the top development firms in South Louisiana. I’ve dealt firsthand with all of the headache and heartache of running a small business. I’ve created jobs. I understand how we should be helping our nation’s small businesses. As president, one of my first acts will be to propose a series of tax incentives for small businesses in the United States. I will expand the budget for the Small Business Administration. Finally, I will work to make it easier for entrepreneurs to start small businesses through expanded small business loans, and more support for business owners in those crucial first years of their business. Small business is the backbone of our nation’s economy, and under my administration they will have all of the support that we can provide for them. As important as it is to help our business community, it’s just as important to help all of you, as well. There have been a lot of awful things said about the Bust Tax Cuts. It’s true that the tax cuts heavily favor the rich. However, they did help average folks too. I believe that the last thing that any working family needs during these trying times is a tax hike. That’s why I support keeping the Bust Tax Cuts in place for any person earning $150,000 or less per year. At the same time, we have to roll back the tax cuts for the rich to ensure that those who can afford to pay their fair share are paying their fair share. Under my administration, everyone making more than $150,000 per year will see their tax rates return to what they were in the year 2000. Our economy has taken a lot of hits over the last few years. We’ll have a long way to go and much to do before we can return to the prosperity that we saw just a decade ago. However, don’t forget that our nation and our people have suffered through economic woes more dire than these. What brought us back from the brink of disaster then was common sense economic policies, a lot of hard work, and even a little faith. I’ll make you this deal: You provide the faith, and I’ll provide the common sense policies, and the hard work. Together, we can get our economy humming again! |

Event Number: Event 3 Type: Military Policy Speech Location: Columbia, SC Target: Moderate Democrats, Moderate and Conservative Independents, Military Families, Veterans ![]() Hello, Columbia! It’s great to be here in the capital of South Carolina. I know that we’re still in the very early days of this campaign, but if every group of supporters I met were as enthusiastic as you, I would win this election in a landslide! You know, it’s apropos that I come here to Columbia today. Columbia is the home of Fort Jackson, the home to so many great fighting men and women. Today, I want to talk to you all about my plan for our nation’s military. The last twenty years have been trying times for the US military. It started with a war in the Persian Gulf. That was a pretty quick war. One hundred years ago, they would have called it a “Splendid Lil’ War,” like they did after the one with Spain. We fought brushfire battles in Somalia, and Kosovo, and launched full-scale invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. We’ve asked a lot of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen over the past two decades. We’re still asking a lot of them. In just a few months, it will be the 10th anniversary of our Afghan invasion. Things have been tough there. Last year was the bloodiest year for American soldiers in that country. However, thanks to the policy put in place by President Obama, we are making progress. Still, there is a long way to go. Al-Qaeda is still a threat in that country. As President Obama said in his State of the Union this year, they are still bent on attacking us, and it will take time to defeat them once and for all. As president, I will continue President Obama’s commitment to peace in Afghanistan. I will continue the troop surge started by his administration. I will work more with our allies in NATO, and the UN, and ask for their military assistance. I will meet with Stephen Harper and key members of the Canadian government to try and convince them to extend the length of their combat mission in the country. If we’re going to ask our soldiers to risk life and limb fighting our enemies, we must show them that the phrase “Support Our Troops” means more to us than just a bumper sticker slogan. If I’m lucky enough to reach the White House, I will work to work to ensure that our fighting men and women have the best, most up-to-date weapons, and armor that we can give them. I will work to ensure that military vehicles and equipment are well-maintained so that our soldiers can do their jobs properly. I will also ensure a better life for our soldiers and their families off of the battlefield. I will work with members of both parties to draft a bill that will guarantee pay raises for men and women in uniform. It’s not that right that some soldiers in the world’s greatest fighting force have to rely on government assistance to feed their families. I will work to improve housing conditions for our soldiers. It’s not right that some soldiers in the world’s greatest fighting force are living in hovels. I will work to improve VA hospitals, and access to them. It’s not right that those who have served this country do not always get the medical treatment that they so richly deserve. Our men and women in uniform fight to protect our freedoms every day. Let’s put a president in the White House who fights just as hard to protect them as they do to protect us. |

Event Number: Event 4 Type: Abortion Speech Location: Council Bluffs, IA Target: Moderate Democrats, Independents, Moderate Republicans, Liberal Republicans, Women's Rights Supporters ![]() Hello, Council Bluffs! It’s great to be here today. I love coming out to the Heartland. It’s one of the few places where big cities like Council Bluffs can still keep the charm of a small town. Now, I know that Iowa is the home state of my good friend Steve Fisher. I know that I don’t have to tell you that Steve and I are rivals for our party’s nomination. I know a lot of you may support Steve for the nomination. All I ask is that I get enough support from you guys that I’m not TOO embarrassed when the Iowa Caucus rolls around! For those of you who don’t know, I come from the great state of Louisiana. At first glance, you wouldn’t think that Iowa and Louisiana have anything in common other than the Mississippi River, and a whole lot of farmland. However, Louisianians and Iowans are a lot alike. They both work hard, they love their families, and they support traditional values. Traditional values…That’s a phrase that both Democrats and Republicans use pretty often. Talk to them about those values, though, and members of the two parties will give you two different definitions of what those values are. Right now in the Senate, we’re getting a pretty good idea of what Republicans consider traditional values. Right now, there’s a bill that’s been submitted into the Senate Hopper called the Increasing Abortion Restrictments Act of 2011. Restrictments? Apparently they’re inventing new words over there at GOP headquarters! This proposed abortion bill would tax the salaries of abortion doctors at 35 percent, allow far-right anti-abortion groups to speak to our children in schools, and drastically change the definition of “late term” abortion. These Draconian restrictions on abortion, which is a perfectly legal medical procedure, is their definition of traditional values. Oh, and by the way, the icing on the cake is the fact that the GOP’s prospective 2012 nominee has signed on as a cosponsor. I support traditional values too. As a practicing Roman Catholic and the father of four children, I’m not too fond of abortion, either. However, instead of new restrictions on the rights of women and ridiculous tax hikes on doctors, I think we should approach the issue with a little more compassion. As president, I will work to promote programs that teach high schoolers and young adults about the dangers of unprotected sex. By doing so, we can hopefully decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies, and the number of abortions. I will support the over the counter sell of RU486. I will work to provide incentives for mothers who choose adoption rather than abortion. Every year, thousands of women in the United States find themselves dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Republicans want to saddle those women with more regulation, more restriction, more trouble. During this very important, very vulnerable times in the lives of these women, I think we should treat them with a little more compassion. That, folks, is the true definition of traditional values. That is the ONLY definition of traditional values that will fly in a Brian Murphy White House! |
