Event Number: Event 10 Type: Education Speech Location: Nashua, NH Target: Liberal Democrats, Conservative Democrats, Moderate Democrats, Moderate Independents, Liberal Independents, Obama Supporters, Teachers, College Students ![]() Hello, Nashua! It’s great to be here in your lovely city. I’ve been all over New Hampshire these past few weeks. I’ve been making my case to the folks up here in the Granite State. One of the great things about this campaign so far is the opportunity to meet hundreds of fine folks just like you. Another great thing about this campaign is the fact that people seem to be warming up to my message. More and more people are excited about my plan to keep our country moving forward in the right direction. It looks like the people of Iowa and New Hampshire aren’t the only ones paying attention. I’m happy to say that I have earned the endorsements of many of my Senate Democratic colleagues. I can feel this campaign moving in the right direction. I can feel it gaining momentum. With your help, and your support, we can go all the way to the White House! I probably don’t have to tell any of you that New Hampshire is one of the brightest states in the Union. I’m not talking about bright in terms of sunlight, I’m talking about bright in terms of education. Thirty-four percent of adults in New Hampshire between the ages of 25 and 64 have bachelor’s degrees. Twelve percent of New Hampshire adults between the same ages have a graduate degree or other professional degree. Up the road in Hanover is Dartmouth College. Though Dartmouth may be the smallest of America’s Ivy League schools, it easily rivals Harvard and Yale in terms of prestige. Unfortunately, not every American child is afforded the same opportunities that so many people here in New Hampshire have had. Too many children are trapped in failing schools. Too many extraordinary students are not allowed to meet their full potential because they cannot afford college. It is absolutely tragic that in the greatest nation on earth, there are still children who are unable to reach their dreams; realize their full potential. As president, I will work to remake America’s education system so that every child is allowed to reach his full potential. It starts by ensuring that there is a great teacher in every classroom. I will do that by granting tax incentives for top achievers who wish to make teaching their profession. By doing this, we can ensure that the best, brightest, and most dedicated individuals are in our classrooms. I will work to increase pay for teachers who vow to spend 5 years working in schools classified as “high risk.” We can make failing schools work again, and if I’m elected we will! Getting a great elementary and secondary education means nothing if we cannot help our children earn a college degree. In today’s economy, if you want to be competitive in the job market, you have to have a decent college education. As president, I will work to increase the number of Pell Grants and Stafford Loans so that any American student who wants to go to college is able to. Not one single American student should be prevented from reaching their full potential. For far too long, we’ve needed to refocus our energies on education. Sadly, our politicians have let our public schools deteriorate. It’s time to put a stop to it. Our children deserve the BEST education that we can offer them. They deserve the best and brightest teachers in their classrooms. Let’s make the changes that need to be made to reform education in the United States. Our children deserve no less. |
