Personally, I can't actually understand what is so bad about charging money for work done. Activision is a business and businesses only exist to make money for the shareholders. Its economics! I am a loyal customer but in no way do I feel like an 'idiot' or in some way ripped off; I bought First Strike and have actually played the maps and can confirm that they are superb, well thought out maps of utter quality. 4 new maps of this quality for £11? K-ching! Thank you Activision. The thing I am worried about is the business model of Battlefield Heroes or the truly dreadful Team Fortress 2; buying hats and outfits and actual playing advantages for money. Now that will truly ruin it for me. Pay to Play is the thing to watch out for, not some map packs for a few quid... |

GeneralTrivium slams head on desk repeatedly. Battlefield Heroes, meh, not played it. Team Fortress 2, you don't have to pay, you can actually get items in the store for free by finding them on random drops. So people who desperately want a certain weapon RIGHT NOW can go and buy it. But those who don't want to spend their money on such trivial things can craft them, or get them in a random drop. $15/£11 for a mappack is a ridiculous price for 4 maps that a modder with a level creator could dish out for free. Minecraft is roughly the same price and you get a tonne more playability with that then you do 4 maps. I'm just repeating myself here, because you didn't address my points in the previous post. And I find it quite ironic that you're mentioning Valve here. Valve provide their consumers with FREE SDK, that means you can create unlimited free content for their games, which they support and also release free content off their own backs on a regular basis for their games. Activision has made billions in revenue from the Call of Duty series, and have had massive support from their fanbase. What do they do? Treat us like morons, just look at MW2. If we hadn't kicked up such a monumental fuss about not having Dedicated Servers, we would still be working off shitty P2P connections. But when it comes down to paid DLC everyone laps it up like a pack of overexcited dogs. My only hope for the Call of Duty franchise right now are the mod tools being release on 31st May. lol Triv... I can actually hear the sound of someone FROTHING at the mouth. The frothment is palpable!! Take a deep breath. Aaaahhhh.... Er, are you actually serious about Minecraft? Is this internet sarcasm? I can never tell you know. This from a Minecraft player yesterday, "I tried playing it, I walked around for about 15 minutes wondering what the fuck to do, and it seems that all you do is move blocks around. Everybody who bought this game must be a god damn chump. " A ringing endorsement there. Basically, if you're not holding some sort of SMG and running around in first person perspective shooting others then I'm not interested. It's a personal failing but I will be handing my money over to Activisoon without question like a slavering dog from now until my hands become to arthritic to faff around aimlessly on my mechanical switch keyboard. LONG LIVE KOTICK!! LONG LIVE FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS THAT ARE NOT TOO DIFFICULT AND MAINTAIN A CERTAIN ARCADE-STYLE ENJOYMENT FOR MONEY IF NECESSARY!! |

Devs used to provide mod tools and the community used those mod tools to keep the game going - look at the original Half-Life as a leading example of that model - 6 years between engine releases where amateur enthusiasts had the opportunity to create and share. The best mods made retail, and the best maps were picked up and incorporated into official releases. Of course, business is business and Activision exist purely to demonstrate that point, but withholding mod tools and selling a few maps for disproportionate prices while lining up the next iteration within the same year... I'd rather not give them encouragement by purchasing more than I have to. I've sunk a couple of hundred hours into CoD, and if it were a single player game I'd be very happy with that amount of play-time, but I've been playing Half-Life's related mods for almost ten years and I only paid a tenner for that. I'd rather have the old model back, please! That said, I’ll probably buy MW3

On day long time ago i had a conversation with a friend i been playing with Medal of Honor:Spearhead, He told me i must buy CoD2, its fun he said. I ran and bought it....played it for 1 hour and never touched it again. I swear i never buy another CoD game ever. Since then i bought MW1, MW2 and BO. LOL So i guess i'll be Buying MW3 cause i would be too god damn curious. The thing is that the only game i realy looking forward to at the moment is Diablo 3, which should be released more or less at the same time as MW3. Surely be a tough choise what to play and when. If you planning on playing Diablo 3, let me know. CO OP would be great. |
