Kicking Grumble

This may be a waste of time but I felt the need, after an experience on your server earlier, to bring to your attention what appears to be an increasing trend of rage-kicking visitors. I understand there are rules in place and that you get plenty of morons not only abusing the rules but also abusing the admins and, as someone who has ran servers in the past, I wholly sympathise with how frustrating it can be when you just want to have fun shooting people in the face. That said, I also know there is a risk that folk may abuse their admin powers on a server and in the heat of the moment, following a frustrating death, kick the offending player in a knee-jerk reaction, citing some flimsy accusation of rule-breaking.

I visit your server regularly under the name Two Spoons, and have enjoyed many a game on it, that is until tonight. Experiment kicked me after I killed him, claiming I was camping, and in truth I was lying prone at the top of a staircase but it was only because I heard dogs coming and wanted to be ready. You may or may not have noticed, but it is simply not in myplay style to camp, quite the contrary in fact and I can hardly stay still a moment. Now from his perspective I appeared to be camping, but in my opinion, granted little that it matters here, a visitor should not be kicked for a one-off offense but rather repeat offenses. I returned to the server briefly, expressing my disappointment, and left after my complaint was met with the usual ham-handed "If you don't like it, leave" response. This is fair enough, there are plenty of servers out there, and in all likelihood I'll simply use them in the future. I know you guys will be in the habit of rallying around one of your own in support, that's fine, but I stand by what I said to Experiment after seeing him in action tonight, on what was quite frankly a rabid kicking spree. Numerous others complained on the server tonight, following similar treatment, and I suppose it's one of the luxuries of having such a popular server, in that you can alienate as many visitors as you like because more will always take their place. But, where I in your place, I'd take a moment to consider the benefit of a server with a more friendly, common sense-based administration as opposed to a black-and-white kick-happy approach - but fortunately for all, I'm not in your place.

TL;DR - I was kicked and found it unfair so I wanted to vent my frustration. And, if nothing else, I've got if off my chest. My thanks, however, go to the members of Rage who have made the server a fun place to play.

Two Spoons! played with him earlier, seemed a decent bloke

To be fair you were sitting on top of a staircase. I approach dogs the same way I approach everything else on this game. FILL THEM WITH KNIVES

Hiya Droog

Thank you for going to the effort of making this post, I really appreciate it. I wasn't in that game, so I can't comment exactly on what happened, but what I can tell you is that we truly go to every effort of NOT being admin assholes and just kicking people for kiling us. If you were kicked unfairly, I apologise on RAGE's behalf, but as you mentioned, I do hope that you can understand the amount of frustration we sometimes go through. You go online to have some fun and catch a few games with your friends, instead, you have to be on spec the whole time because everyone is complaining about the campers, getting killed in-game because you're busy typing and warning people to stop the camping... and all that does get to you after a while.

Having said all that, there is no camping on the server, not even when dogs are around (although we might want to change that in future). The only time we will accept camping in any form, is when a huey is about (and you're on the receiving end of it).

When I was on earlier (I think that I left about 2 games after Exp joined), the server was rife with campers. I had to go spec in almost every game to try and see who's camping and get rid of them. If you don't get rid of the campers fast enough, our regular players leave complaining that it's supposed to be a 'no camping' server but campers EVERYWHERE. If you start kicking campers (or what you assume is someone camping) at a fast pace, then things like what happened to you now might happen, and then we also get complaints :p So I agree with you that a one-time offense should not be worthy of a kick, but just understand it goes both ways, and it's not always the easiest thing for us to create that happy environment that everyone likes and enjoys playing in, we do try though.

No matter how popular our server is, we don't take any players for granted and we'd like to see you again :)

I understand your frustration,

I spend 50 to 70 percent of my time on the server tying to keep it clean from the rule breakers. Not Playing :(

My appologies if i was wrong, we all make mistakes.

In my opinnion you were in the wrong "hence the kick" but its only an opinnion, we are only human mistakes are plentyful.

Hope to see you again soon.

Happy Fragging / Peace out!

Droog - I would urge you to come on again and play with us.

I can wholly sympathise with Experiment though as I have had many a frustrating time when players have complained about campers and have urged me to "do my job" :-0
I find I am stretched between 2 impossible tasks: having to keep the rules and avoid an escalation of outright mutiny and keeping a nice friendly atmosphere.

I'm sure you will understand that it is difficult in the heat of the moment to get everything spot-on but be assured, Experiment is a nice guy and I'm sure all he wanted was to keep everyone 'on track' with the rules.

My own tactic is either:
Start spectating and only kick after a few friendly reminders or warnings if these are blatantly ignored or
Leave the game and have a nice cigarette and some refreshing morphine.

You're damned if you do and dames if don't. I had someone complaining to that I wasn't kick people quick enough (I won't name names) but he apologised so it's all cool.

Cheers for the swift replies, guys. I have to admit I was afraid my post would be dismissed and that I would be told to play elsewhere if I didn't like it. I'm glad to see my concerns misplaced. This is a pleasant and mature community, which is much too rare a thing these days, and I'm grateful for your civil response. I appreciate that, as an admin, it can be difficult enough to get a whole uninterrupted round of play without needing to warn or kick another player, let alone deal with the onslaught of offenders and relentless complainers. And, aside from what has been altogether a rather minor grievance, I appreciate the time and effort you guys put into making your server a fun and fair place to play.

My apologies to Experiment if I managed to cause any offense, despite the circumstances I do try to keep a civil tongue in my head, but I may have come across a bit rude. And at present I'm sure I'm coming across more than a bit too wordy and serious, I'm not like this all the time I promise, and in fact when I hear the sweet ping of a headshot it never fails to bring out a satisfied smile. I've even been known to say "lol" on occasion, too!

Thanks again for being so understanding. I'll be sure in future to do the same. See you guys around!
