Well, I'll share a few of my usual armies. Of course it all depends upon your skills/deployment. Honestly, I find 31k to be relatively easy to win compared to other money levels. All of this is debatable to preference. Only the GREEK (occasionally Fulminata) clan really explores beyond these 3 factions. Remember to maximize missile damage (pila/arrows) and conserve cavalry for a decisive moment. Basic Roman army: ![]() My Roman army: ![]() My Greek army: ![]() My Seleucid army: ![]() Note that I don't rely heavily on missiles or cavalry with exception to Seleucids (a precarious choice). This is due to my devaluation of these units in these battles. If a single unit of archers does not waste nearly an entire unit of infantry, it's not worth the unit space/cost. The same thing applies to cavalry, though most of us elect on the 6 cavalry rule. Make sure you protect your cavalry until a decisive moment. Also noted is that several players "charge through" their units in wedge to break yours engaged. This is an error. I recommend micromanaging the targeted units to "charge" the incoming enemy cavalry (morale boost for charging) and then pila/missile them the best you can. If you have a cavalry superiority by attrition, you'll own in the end-game when all infantry are engaged. Edited by Belle, 28th October 2010 - 07:00 PM.

Yeah, it is simple and sort of boring with exception to the climax, though you have to be familiar with the unit vs size adjustments and tricks to be particularly good at it. (I've seen top notch 15k players get owned in 31k--no names!) I only really enjoy the systematic nature, and it's a passing fancy. It's the same part of me which appreciates a good siege and bridge battle. Equally fun is very low money. |

its funny when you bring 30 k players to 15 k. they usually keep everything in tight and use flaming arrows all the time. its like having a debate with someone whose mental age is 4. |

I have seen though that the best low money players are also the best high money players...Ahy, Varus, Reeve, etc. |

I really do not like 31k games because they truly do dumb things down to an insanely boring level. Rarely does anyone use even Germania, Sele, or Greece and even when they do the games are still dull because 31k limits itself to 4 factions maybe 5 at most. 15k cwb truly is much more interesting because more tactics and factions can be used. Lower money (10k a below) is tons of fun though because essentially any faction can be used with a shot at winning. Still a big fan of 15k cwb though. I think it is the standard rules/money for good reason |

It's an acquired taste and passing fancy. It only takes a few games to know what to expect in 31k. Almost every time I join one, I easily dominate my opponent. There are some good 31k players like MOONDANCE who actually micro individual units for pila/loose/tight, but against almost everyone else, if you play methodically with attrition, it's quite easy to win. |

Hi all Since im the only 31k player around here I think ill comment on this thread. I know its an old thread but what the heck. Those armies posted above are pretty much the standard armies for 31k. Me personally I like to have 15 urbs 5 cav with my roman armies. For my greek army I like to have more spartans. 12 sparts 4 armoured pike and 4 cheap arch as throw away units. I see some of you saying that theres very few factions that can win on 31k which isnt true. I have won lots of battles with many diff factions on 31k. Egypt, brits, mace, carthage, pontus, germans, scythia pretty much all factions have there uses except for the likes of numidia, thrace, and gaul. It takes really good teamwork and tactics to win with these other factions thats all. Any time ive played 15k team battles they seem to go more like 1v1s than than a teambattle. Perhaps thats why some dont like 31k so much. I find 15k all about arch and cav. On 31k inf rule. Rarely do I loose to a 15k player on 31k. |

mmm I dont know about that. You are correct in saying that 15k is about archers and cav, but I've used archers extremely well in 31k games and Cataphracts in 31k can dominate people if used correctly. I've seen it done and used to have replays of it before my computer had to be wiped. In 31k I've found that its all about using the pilla the most efficiently. Though I have been accused of modding because I voided peoples pilla and charged and destroyed them... (If they read this they know who they are ) Beyond that, its about flanking to sap morale... and that is where Cavalry comes in and fire arrows from archers only augments that effect.

Thats true Alexander archers can be effective on 31k. Versus any other faction than rome or greeks they do decent damage to inf. Thats shooting them from the front, sides or back they can be great. Also flaming arrows can be a battle winner if the fight goes down to an inf war at the end. Happens alot. Versus rome or greece though best to leave the archers and get inf. These type battles a lack of inf will cost ya in the end. Yep spot on bout pilla aswell. If your good at the pilla fight youll win alot of battles on 31k. Nothing commands attention quite like catas do. I enjoy using them though they do have there faults
