Thought I would share these pictures for other people to see. I asked a few people online and posted photos and was told this was frostbite.
So, sadly Katie won't be going to shows anymore. Her ears are a bit damaged and I don't think the hair will be coming back in some areas.
Thankfully she is a good mama and I can still breed her this year. I feel bad that I didn't catch it sooner, but at least it isn't all black and no pieces are missing from her ears.
They don't seem to bother her... I've be lightly squeezing them and stuff. They are pretty hard to the touch. I see a thin black line on the very tips, so I think that means that area is now dead. :/

So if you haven't seen a kinda mild form of frostbite, here is your chance. None of the other rabbits show any signs of it, so I am grateful for that!

Ouch! So sorry to see what the winter has brought to your Katie. Definitely not a nice experience for both of you.

Hope she heals well. Glad to hear she's an excellent Mom as her show career is now over.

Thanks for posting the pics.

yup - that's frostbite. Sorry you are dealing with it too. Hate to say, but it will continue to get worse-looking for 3 days to a week. Tissue that is white may also turn black - and some areas that looked fine turn white/blistered. Very hard to catch -- once it is actually frozen, the nerves are dead and they don't show any sign that it bothers them.

If you are lucky, the fur may come back. My daughter's minirex, Star, had about this level on her feet -- and the fur is growing back there nicely now (unfortunately, her ear is far worse and she's going to lose almost an inch off the tip I think).

Check my related string - frozen feet - for how I've been treating much worse cases (with only limited success). I didn't take/post photos -- hard enough to get my oldest to help me with twice daily medicine - getting a camera hasn't been a priority. Do share notes on any successful treatment.

Yikes - thanks for sharing pictures. I have been wondering what it would look like. To my untrained eye, I would think that it was an injury. I hope she gets better with no problems!

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure how much it would change or what else would happen to it. I'll keep an eye on it and see what I can do for her.

Asia: Yeah, it seemed like some type of injury at first to me. Like a bite or scratch, but then I saw crusty skin and thought mites, but its only on the tips so it didnt make sense to me. lol Then I posted on the ARBA Facebook group and got some help.
