WARNING VENT!! At 6pm last night I sold a 9 week old holland lop doe to a young couple. they wanted her as a pet. when they arrived I carried the doe from my rabbitry to the driveway in ONE HAND. the only time she struggled was when i tried to unzip my rabbit book to verify the tattoo. even then she struggle much. this was IN FRONT of the buyers. I told them I had just recently begun handling her and that she would get better with daily handing. Well when I got off work at 4:30pm today I found 2 emails, a text message and a voice mail from the buyer. they had to return the bunny since it was a DISASTER! they NEVER told me it was for a young child. they claim she didnt want to be handled at all and that other rabbits they had looked at at the same age didnt act like that. i never had a problem nor has my 8yo daughter. (of course shes been handling them all her life and shows) sounds to me like they dont know what theyre doing and the kid probably squashed the poor thing or held her wrong. if i had known it was for a young child from a family that knew nothing about rabbits i NEVER wouldve sold them the rabbit I swear how can people think a BABY rabbit would be as gentle as a kitten?? (well thats not really a good example LOL) anyway a baby ANYTHING isnt born calm and gentle. and of course we all know how rabbits are. they must feel secure when handled or you will get scratched the father whom i believe is the main one who probably showed his butt due to his kid getting scratched will be returning her this evening I think im just gonna keep this one and grow her out. Her new name will be Mrs CLAWS (pic below) https://www.dropbox.com/s/htb2cf3wo6x8awl/2014-04-10%2012.17.52.jpg |

Ridiculous. Rabbits are prey animals. They should have done research. You can tell they didn't because then they would know that rabbits are scared at first, more so when they are in a new atmosphere and being handled by new people! |

I sell most of my babies as pets and tell them straight out that, like any baby, it WILL need continued socialization and handling in order to become a well-behaved adult. A baby is a baby, after all... within reason, of course. |

You will know next time when someone calls, to ask who the rabbit is for. If the person says to a child, ask the person if they KNOW about rabbits. Some people just don't understand rabbits. Babies or adults, it takes time to form a bond with a new rabbit. It's not instant. Parent had not clue. Rabbits are not kittens or puppies. Definitely no research done there. Mrs. Claws is lovely! Their loss, your gain! KAZ Edited by ZRabbits, Apr 16 2014, 05:02 AM.

lol - kittens scratch too. And puppies nip/chew. birds bite HARD. sounds like people who have no clue about animals, much less rabbits. I'd say poor Mrs. Claws - except she's lucky to be going back to you! |
